Why is XIN ZHAO a SENESCHAL?
This has always bothered me. Xin Zhao is called "seneschal of the royal household, [...] bodyguard and advisor not only to his friend and master [the king], but also to the king’s son" in his lore.
A seneschal was none of these things. A seneschal was the master of servants and a royal house's domestic affairs. They basically oversaw procurement and use of supplies for the royalty. Yes, the word eventually traces back to the Latin "senior scholaris", but... That goes way back before the word itself first appeared, and referred to a very specific arm of the Praetorian Guard. Who themselves were more political than military, across the entirety of their history. A seneschal, the word used by Riot Games, was a strictly domestic role.
How? Why? Why not just call him captain of the guard? Master-at-arms? Royal retainer? Honorguard? Praetorian? Bloody housecarl? Any word through all of medieval history that referred to an actual martial post meant to guard the royalty? There were dozens of them!
