If the Institute of war was in fact closed not deleted, where would the Summoners end up?

Where would the summoners go if the institute had been closed instead of deleted? (like it should have been.)

They would return to their home nations I am sure, but would they lose all contact with each other? Would there be star-crossed friendships?

Would they immediately start a rune war? Without the institute they could not settle disputes the same way.

Would perhaps some strike out alone and become hermits? Would they perhaps form splinter organizations similar to the institute?

What about the research division? Where would all the magical relics contained there end up? Would there be a fight over those relics?

I would love to hear some ideas! I am certain the members of Factions (http://leaguefactions.net) would be interested to hear this.

Specific examples would be good, such as "What if X conflict happened again, how would it be resolved without the Institute? How did Y champion react without the Institute to contain them?"

Mercenary groups, Academic Institutes and positions of political power in City-States that don't run on Divine Right of Kings.

The once oppressed champions slaughtered as many summoners as possible until they were no more. They do not feel remorse for their actions, their is no regret, for they are free at last from an endless cycle of life and death. Now the IoW is just a pile of ash which will be scattered to the winds for an eternity.

Well, Baron's a lot bigger in the new map.

He had to have gotten that girth off of something...oh no.

If the idea is that a Summoner can provide "radio support" for a Champion and significantly increase their fighting power, you might well see them continue in much the same role, but now supporting Champions in actual battles. Not all Summoners would be game for this, I'd imagine; inasmuch as they were part of an international institution dedicated to peaceful resolution of conflict, some might refuse to take part in actual killing.

Otherwise, the same thing you'd expect mages to do, for the most part. A Summoner with an Institute education and friendships with famous Champions could go far. In the days of the League of Legends, factions recruited Summoners to support their causes on the Fields of Justice: in the chaotic aftermath of the League's collapse, they'd have need for them again.

The League of Legends was our last best hope for peace. It failed. In the year 24 CLE, it became something greater: our last best hope … for victory.

I imagine that some idealistic Summoners would continue to try to broker diplomatic interactions between the nations of Runeterra, working with people like Karma to protect Valoran from another Rune War.

They would become Helmet Bros.
