Shurima is a continent. Not all of Shurima is desert. Think like Africa. Africa has significantly large rainforests.

Shurima isn't a continent though, I'm pretty sure riot hasn't came up a name for the third continent yet.

Even so, his point is a good one. It's easy to say that someone is form X city, when they are really from a small town next to that city. I could see the same reasoning given to Rengar --> he's not really from Shurima, that's just the only 'big name' location nearby to where he lives.

Not every desert is pure sand, cacti and cow skulls.

A lot have small vegetation like Brushes and hunting in areas where there is enough water for bushes makes more sense than to hunt out in the sand.

Also since he only gameplaywise relies on the Brushes in Lore he could probably leap out of any hiding place like a sand dune, hole, etc.

Considering he is based on a Lion it makes sense for him to come from the desert.

Rengar doesn't need bushes when he has his ultimate. Hence, the desert.

There is likely a jungle on the southern continent. And since Shurima seems to be the only real nation on said continent,I'd say it is actually pretty likely that said jungle is seen as part of shurima.
