I'm truly curious.
I mean, they are clearly part of things like new champions and updates, and they obviously do stuff like the Bilgewater Event, but what else do they do?
Do they do things like the Project Skins? Do they help design new skins in general? Did they play a part in "A New Dawn"? How big are they?
I'm trying to give Riot the benefit of the doubt for the current state of lore, but I don't know enough about what them do to do that.
They likely are involved in all the stuff you mentioned. New champions, ties between thematically similar skins just as the project skins. Back stories for how champions fit in an area of rune terra etc etc. I don't know that I particularly agree with direction riot took with the lore but it's still there, it's just separate from the rift now. Which makes for some odd reasoning as to why anything that is going on in the lore would affect summoner a rift at all such as the bilge water event but it doesn't all have to make sense lore wise it can just be content to enjoy.
