How would Riot look at making a thief Champion work in the story?

While some Champions have been thieves in the past (Graves, Talon, Janna, etc.), none of them kept it as a lasting occupation. All of them moved on to what they're doing now. But in many fantasy games, thieves have proven rather interesting characters, or have created factions that lead to interesting story lines.

Case in point: the Thieves Guild from the Elder Scrolls series. In Oblivion, you had to help the Count of Anvil remove the curse of Nocturnal's Cowl so he could shed the identity of the Grey Fox. In Skyrim, you help the Guild get back on its feet after Mercer steals the Skeleton Key, cursing the Guild, and uncover Mercer's role in the murder of the previous Guildmaster. The stories behind those events are quite interesting, really, with great characters to boot.

This makes me wonder if thief stories like that could work in League's universe. Having a Champion whose day job is theft would add something to make the world feel more believable.

Considering the great retcon, we don't really know what the shady champions are up to do we?

For all we know, TF steals all the time. The man can teleport, has clairvoyance through magic and has been known to be a less than upstanding kinda guy. Who's to say he doesn't steal some shit when nobody in town is willing to get swindled by his sleight of hand and charms?

And that's just TF. What about Twitch? The rat doesn't strike me as the type who works, budgets or spends responsibly.

I'm sure a thief character could work. Every champion has something worth stealing, all it takes is a little ingenuity to figure out what's worth what to whom. Once that's settled just make sure you got some combat skills/magic so you don't get your ass handed to you if/when you get in trouble.

Ahri's tail fur might be considered a rare magical ingredient and worth a lot of gold to a mystic in Ionia or alchemist in Zaun. Gragas's brew recipe, Lucian's guns, the hide/scales/blood? of Alistar/Nami/Zac.

Hell, the thief could steal and sell underwear. You think there aren't any perverts in Valoran?

I think if they added a thief it would(hopefully) be C,the mysterious master thief from caitlyns lore.

He/she would probably be more something along the lines of a master thief, instead of a member of a thieves guild though.

I'd say that Bilgewater or piltover would fit the best for such a champ(Bilgewater because it fits the whole lawless theme and piltover because it would connect the thief to caitlyn and he/she could use some high tech gear to make the champ more interesting).
