Aatrox: we know that he is a Darkin from his lore "Aatrox is a legendary warrior, one of only five that remain of an ancient race known as the Darkin"

Q: If Rhaast is a Darkin, was Aatrox "corrupt" by the same living blade that Aatrox also wields? If not, then how did Rhaast get transposed into a weapon?

It is also said that there are 5 Darkin: Aatrox,Rhaast are confirmed however 3 remain. There has been speculation that Varus was corrupted by a Darkin in the 'pit of corruption' but not yet confirmed. It is also told by Rhaast in one of his quotes that while taunting an ally Aatrox Rhaast: "Death and war, this will be delicious." Making it seem that there are differnent forms of Darkin that exist.

Q: Is Varus corrupted/darkin? If so, then what type is the 'Arrow of Retribution'

This Varus suspession is also widened by another quote by Rhaast when taunting an ally Varus; Rhaast: "We find Aatrox... and it's a party of murder. A murder party."

Q: What was the 'pit of corruption' that is so feared by the Ionian elders? Are the Darkin known and feared? What of the Darkin's Downfall?

Yet 2 still remain...IF Varus is some form of a Darkin

Aatrox is the sword, not the host. He (the sword) corrupted the host and took completely over him, just like Rhaast can take over Kayn completely in the game. All Darkins were trapped into some weapons a long time ago.

Q: Is Varus corrupted/darkin? If so, then what type is the 'Arrow of Retribution'

Varus is the host, Pallas is most likely a Darkin. They don't have a negative relationship like Rhaast and Kayn. Varus willingly gave himself to Pallas so that he can get revenge for his village and family. That's why Pallas is not negative towards Varus, because he will take over him completely when the time comes, and that's the price Varus was willing to pay when he made the trade.

The Pit of Corruption was the place they locked in Pallas, a.k.a. the Darkin bow. All Darkins are extremely powerful and feared (by those who know about them anyway). As for their downfall, we will get lore about them in a few months so we shall see how they got trapped into weapons.

I think with Varus, Riot is doing a lore retcon that the corruption instead of being some "ooh spoooky mist in a temple" that he took onto him self when the temple went under siege to save it from spreading to prob

Yeah, that bow, its a Daarkin. It is slowly taking over Varus, why he has Daarkin pants. Perhaps there will be an actual Daarkin skin for Varus to represent the eventuality when the Daarkin conquers him.
