If Azir is Osiris, is Xerath Set? If Nasus is Anubis, is Renekton Ammit?

Asir or who the greek called Osiris is basically famous for being murdered due to infidelity and becoming the first "mummy" prepared by his illegitimate son Anubis. The Osiris myth is pretty confusing, but that's basically the gist of it. Set's wife who was thought to be barren ends up getting pregnant and blames Osiris. It just gets even more confusing when you bring Horus into it, the true heir to the throne, who was only conceived as a result of the mummification. It makes me think Horus was Anubis in disguise, or rather, Anubis was Horus in disguise, and they are the same person, the illegitimate son born of Osiris. It's all word or phrase to trick Set out of rule. Who knows for real though. Horus and Anubis could have just been half-brothers with different mothers. I just don't see why Set would willingly father his step-son Anubis and simultaneously want to kill Horus. Its like saying to your son, "idc if you're my brother's son, but if you're not my wife's son you're a dead man". It's fun to read and think about though. I wonder what was going through that man's head...I mean if it was an actual person at one time or what. IDK.

The whole betrayal thing is kinda similar, especially when it talks about Xerath preventing any heirs to be born, which is very characteristic of Set(who is famous for murdering Osiris in egyptian myth). What's funny is that i don't think the jackal god would even be popular or a thing without any of this taking place before-hand. Like...he's famous for mummifying his father who died for conceiving him.

maybe Renekton is supposed to actually be Horus, despite representing a crocodile(Ammit). originally "the two were locked in a battle which would not be won or lost until the world ended and everything slipped back into chaos." Basically just like it says in the shuriman myth lol. Ammit is just the crocodile beast who is almost like a pet of Anubis at this point. It's hard to say because there isn't much information on her. She is female though apparently which is a big difference from Renekton. It's hard to believe Renekton would be in reference to anything else considering his relationship with Nasus. Anyone can look up the book of the dead and find the jackal headed humanoid and crocodile together on pages thousands of years old. I just assume Azir is supposed to represent Osiris because not only is the story similar to his myth, but his name is close to the original pronunciation. Only one that's left is Xerath, which if 1 + 1 = 2, represents Set. I just found it interesting looking at the similarities between the two myths. If any one has any more insight on it.. or any knowledge on characters in shuriman or egyptian myth, you're free to add.

I don't think they're supposed to mimic the Egyptian gods' stories so much as they're evoking their appearances.

But I wouldn't mind seeing Apophis make it into the game. Maybe he'd be some kind of shadow archetype of Aurelion?

Ammit isn't just a crocodile- she's a crocodile-hippo-lion.

I'm pretty sure Renekton is meant to be some crazy Sobek?

Could be really nice to see a female ascended based on Bastet or Sekhmet !

I'm way more interested in actual Egyptian history, culture & mythology than I am Shurima (except for my girl Taliyah); this entire thread is really getting me going.

How is Azir Osiris when he is basically Ra/Orus?

Seth also has the resemblance of a beats anyway.

I thought Amumu would be Osiris, and Azir was Horus. O.o Xerath could also be Apophis. Apophis was most represented as a snake, but i Also heard that he has many forms.

(If someone already said this, im sorry. Not gonna read the whole thread.)

for the sake of reference here is a picture of one of the most famous pages from the actual book of the dead. D: https://i.imgur.com/vWTyrdF.jpg Book of gates is super interesting too. kind of reminiscent of Christianity the way it's laid out. It seems souls of any race are allowed into Aaru, the land of Osiris, or Egyptian "heaven", be it they pass certain gates in recognition of them. Ya know, that one famous verse that all Christians just love to quote John 3:16 "anyone who believes in Christ will not perish, but have eternal life". Same idea really.

This is the same complicated thinking that got us into the whole League's demons are The Seven Deadly Sins affair.

Wait so his name is Asir ?

I searched a lot for the meaning of Azir , the only thing I could find is the Arabic word " Asir " which means The prisoner

now it makes sense , where did you find this Asir word from ?

Azir is Ra, Nasus is Anubis and Renekton is Sobek

KestrelGirl11/11/2018, 10:09:30 PM2 votes

I'm going to go with Renekton being Sobek.

Xerath's a weird one because he wasn't designed as a failed Ascended, while Renek/Nasus/Azir were all designed with heavy Egyptian influence in mind. If he gets a visual update at some point, he may look a little closer to Set or Apophis/Apep.

Azir is Ra god of the Sun.

Well, think I'll let the thread die or take its own course or whatever. Seems like my replies for the most part have just been a waste of time. maybe it's not customary to post in your own thread here, I'm not sure. anyways. GL HF

Fun Fact: The name of Azir before release was "Seth, the sand mage"
