i am seriously tired of shit talk in general. and talk that has no practical use to the game at all.

simple examples: you suck, you're bad, stupid. people like this seem to WANT people to quit the game, and all it does is discourage people and it often does exactly that and cause people to quit playing altogether. this kind of toxicity is the worst kind because allowing it to exist would remove more player base than it would just to permanently ban the people with such toxic behavior as this. the people that should truly get punished above all else are these types of people. i've seen people banned for simple things like just using some curse words here and there but it's mostly from defending themselves. The true culprits that should be banned are the ones that are causing it, that are causing people to get discouraged not the ones that feel the need to defend themselves as they so rightly deserve to do even though they often use much more "bad words". The sad truth is that these "bad words" used to defend oneself aren't even toxic to the players they are used against. More often than not, it's just laughed at, it's the desired effect of the toxic, but they are just victims, and most-if not all-of the time they deserve no punishment.

I think we should be more lenient for the people defending themselves, and have much more severe punishment for people causing the toxicity with discouragement. It might not seem like they are using very bad terms, but to the player, its a different story.

Words are meaningless compared to the intentions behind them. Discouragement is the core of toxicity and it must be dealt with swiftly. And as of right now, it is dealt with very poorly.

Just mute them, nothing is gained from writing a novel on the subject.

Retaliation is not acceptable.

Defending yourself is fine, "defending" yourself is fine. When you start cursing at other people because they started shit talking you, consider the fact that you are not the only two people in the game.

To the other eight players in that match, they see two players cursing at each other.

Other people's behaviors do not excuse your own. While the instigators can be reported for griefing as well, the one who retaliated is no longer faultless and will be treated fairly (relatively speaking, of course) under the system.

That's nice until you realize your version of defending yourself is basically attacking the other person.

So then when they flame you back harder they can just say they are "defending" themselves.

The "he started it" mentality is for kids. I'm pretty sure we all learned that it is a pretty poor excuse for retaliation. If you are going to retaliate, at least man/woman up and take the punishment. Riot shouldn't cater to one person being toxic cause the other person "caused" it.

i'm not saying this for me, i'm saying this for all of riot. i'm used to shit like this. i won't deny i AM tired of it. considering it SHOULD be better in LoL. but it just seems it's overloaded with children that should be moderated.

I dont think you can ever get a system that detects the intention behind your words. I use swear words a lot as just a way of talking ("holy shit, wtf" etc..) so i get what you're saying, but getting a system to ban people based on intention is never gonna happen.

i hate to say this, but in fact most of the people that act this way are usually obviously a LOT worse players than the people they are discouraging.. especially in a game like that. it happened a lot in dota. i keep this to myself because it would just make it worse, because ya know.. kids angst.. pride. gotta have some prudence in situations like that.
