Varus' lore wasn't changed so he could be the 'token gay character', but to become the Darkin

I'm under the impression that a lot of people think Riot changed Varus' lore just for diversity purposes, which simply isn't true. His lore needed an update after he was made a Darkin and rather than half-assing it by just rehashing his old lore and including the Darkin, they went all the way and opened up the opportunity of having things that haven't been seen in LoL's lore yet. I think Varus' new lore is great, job well done Riot.

they could've just kept his wife and child, the change to being gay was CLEARLY cosmetic, not even a requirement.

Varus's old lore would have worked perfectly fine for making him a Darkin. So much so in fact, that some people had already theorized that the evil he was guarding in the temple actually was a Darkin.

Literally all they would have had to do is specify what the evil he was guarding was, and change Varus's (the man) name if they wanted that to be the name of the Darkin.

Someone finally said it! Thank you for understanding that the lore NEEDED to be updated completely, not just rehashed and injected with Darkin themes.

But people will say "Just make it so he was saving his wife and kid and THEY got fused into his body with him. And make him fight to save their souls, without turning into a monster and losing them!"
