Either Meddler is horribly disconnected from the lore, or Alistar is going to be from Mount Targon.

This is based on a recent interview with WIRED where Meddler and Ghostcrawler both sat down and "explained" every champion in the game.

In it, when discussing Alistar, Meddler stated that he "thinks" Alistar's Targonian.

(34:35 to be specific)

Now, it should be no surprise that Alistar's lore (and the lore of Minotaurs in general), is currently outdated and is due for an update in the future.

He's a dude that got "lured away" from his village by the son of Boram Darkwill (which doesn't exist anymore as Darkwill never had a son in the new lore) and was then enslaved by Noxus' most skilled Blood Mages (which, also shouldn't exist anymore as the only Blood Mages we know of are Vladimir and, possibly, the members of his "Crimson Circle") to fight as a gladiator in the Fleshing.

There, he befriended another gladiator and slave by the name of Xin Zhao, but more commonly referred to as "Viscero". After some time, Alistar would escape from the Fleshing with the help of a young servant girl called "Ayelia". Xin Zhao would also escape with the help of the Demacian king, Jarvan II.

And then Alistar became a philanthropist?

No, seriously, he now goes around, stands up for others oppressed by Noxus, exposes the secrets of Noxus, and has apparently won several "philanthropic awards" for his work, despite there being no global organization on Runeterra that gives "awards" to anyone.

Case in point, his lore don't make a lot of sense and is due for an update.

If Meddler's statement is anything to go by, Alistar, and possibly all Minotaurs in general, will now come from Mount Targon.

What the Minotaurs are/were doing on the mountain, if they have any ties or affiliation to the Targonian humans at all, if Alistar will still be a slave gladiator of Noxus, if this means Noxus is also looking into taking over Targon along with their other invasion plans, if he will keep his relationship with Xin Zhao, etc. etc. this is all unknown.

Although, it could be an opportunity to flesh out Targon's lore a bit more since there's still so many things about it that's unknown.

I could also be totally wrong and Meddler just said Targonian by mistake, but I wanted to at least explore the possibility of Alistar coming from Targon.

What do you guys think?

I think that makes sense, since Targon is loosely based on Ancient Greece, which is the origin of the myth of the Minotaur (of course there was only one Minotaur in the original myth, but the differences between that and Alistar's actual design certainly make them a plausible race). Just as long as they don't repeat the Darkin retcon and make them some kind of ascended...I'd rather have them be related to Vastaya of all things...but I think the best route to go would be to have them be their own race, like trolls, simply native to the wilds of Targon.

League lore is a trash fire and riots philosophy moving forward seems to be to try putting out the fire by throwing more trash into it.

This might be like the time where GC said in an interview that Vi and Jinx are sisters, before being corrected a few hours later and admitting his last statement was false.

Granted, it's not impossible for Alistar to be Targonian -- I actually consider it somewhat likely -- but Meddler is definitely not a reliable source of info.

I say we wait for his update.

Everything is targonian, everything is ascended...

Seriously this goes more and more into the bland side.

There are Blood Mages in Varus's comic

I mean, Targon has a Spartan so why shouldn't it have a Minotaur?

Tesla Effect11/18/2018, 2:14:32 PM2 votes

Why would he be part of Mount Targon when his Minotaur race is seen in the city of Krexor in Noxus?

Imo I would rather see a blend of the lores. Have him as a vastaya that was enslaved by Noxious to be used in the Gladiator arena. He would defy them any satisfaction that they could have gotten and kept his spirits high. He tries to also help those around him and help their spirits not break as well. He meets Xin and they escape. He goes with Xin and Jarvan II because Jarvan II wants to give Alistar somewhere to stay. While there he hears people speak of mount Targon and is captivated by the stores and wishes to see it when he does he is in total awe and something tells him to climb the mountain and when he reaches the top he is now named as the Aspect of courage.

Just thought of this off the top of my head could use more fleshing out but you get the idea.

If his lore does get updated, it may be that he is instead the only Minotaur, not from a race of them. You know, like the story the Minotaur is from.

Meddler and GC are not lore people, just as a heads up for anyone concerned.

Camille Ferrøs11/17/2018, 7:57:39 PM2 votes

I wouldn't be surprised if he is from Mount Targon since horned creatures exist around there as said in Leonas lore.

Lewanor11/17/2018, 9:30:37 PM1 votes

He said Talon was another ninja. Most of them are there for comedic effect

They are probably a bit out of the loop in regards to lore as others have mentioned I'm not up to date on lore but sejuani dont have sisters (anymore?).

hell they think players like "percentage max hp true damage" I thought it was a joke at first but they work with CertainlyTrue-damage.

[zombie-brand-facepalm] Are you yourself forgetting that Alistar comes from The Great Barrier! Which is also a mountain like Targon, so forgive a man who might confuse the two.
