What Do Garen, Sona, and Vi Have To Do With Jhin?
Did we ever get that lore or what?
They removed their death sequences on their character pages but why did those specific characters get chosen in the first place?

Jhin had everything to do with Zed, but that's a separate issue.
The point of it was just to show the extravagant manner in which Jhin sees death. There isn't really a lore thread to be followed imo. They were used to advertise the champion as an artist of death. I don't think significance of the characters' roles served to do anything other than maybe indicate his role. It was cool nonetheless.
If there is a lore thread, it's possible Jhin targets them based on the beauty and tragedy he sees in their lives. Sona is a masterful musician, but is mute. Cruel irony for a performer. Garen is in love with someone he can never be with. Shakespearean love story that will likely end in tragedy for both him and Katarina. Vi turned into a do-gooder from being a simple thug. Classic redemption/anti-hero literature. Zed was a jealous student who was consumed by jealousy and pride. Fall of Man story of sorts. All classic storyline themes in popular literature, which can be considered art.
Jhin is the person who writes the ending for their stories.
That's the only thread I could imagine storywise.

No. We didn't.

They had no reason. It was just random hype and marketing by picking four random champs and letting the community make rampant speculation on the patterns/connections.
Jihn had nothing to do with those champs. Those champs, lore wise, are not currently dead or maimed. It was just Jihn's vision of seeing them killed/maimed in his imagination. In the end, it was just a marketing gimmick that didn't really advance the lore.
Vi - two letters Zed - three letters Sona - four letters Garen - five letters
That's the only pattern I ever saw.
My connections to those four? besides that dreadful metal ninja, nothing at all really. They would make excellent canvasses one day, but until them I am sad to say I have not had the pleasure of meeting them.

The best thing I can think of for any connection to Garen is that as he is, he is a symbol for his people. A good way to inspire terror and awe is to detroy a culture's heroes.
I think it mostly had to do with the fact that these characters were 1.Very much associated with the other lanes and 2.Popular enough to get people wondering why they were dead,creating interest for Jhin.
But what do i know?
Nothing absolutely nothing. It was just a random thing they did to hype his release.
I can hazard a guess that Garen and Sona were chosen because they had something artful to them. Garen's hidden love story, and he gets shot through the heart. Sona should be obvious. No goddamn clue on Vi though.
