@Riot. Is Katarina the descentant of magic users turned blade masters?

Hi all. this is a question for both riot and you guys. I was always wondering if Katarina and the Du Couteau family were magi before becoming blademasters because most of her damage is magical and most of the aristocracy of Noxus are magic users while the commoners or lowborn use only physical damage such as Riven, Talon and the Blood Brothers.

So I was wondering if that was true because looking at the damage and rank they have in lore. it just seems like too much of a coincidence.

I think it'd make sense, though from what the Piltover lore confirms is that magical abilities are basically gifts that people are born with.

Not arguing against your theory, just going on a tangent that possibly explains not only that Cassiopeia can have such magical abilities from her affliction (getting snake powers doesn't really seem like something you should get from a trap. It's possible that the latent magic in her bloodline was forced out in response to it) but also why Talon who was given additional training from the house head has no magical abilities.

Katarina's magic might just be how it manifests itself despite her training being in a rather mundane art. This could point to Katarina being a potentially very powerful mage if she was trained properly.

Instead she just gets magic knife tricks. Not that she's complaining.

Yeah that fact has remained about magic being something that people inherit, but I wonder if it's something that is certain within one's genes. I have also held the belief that Cassiopeia could have at some latent magical power but it only got unleashed alongside her inner snake (lol) but yeah it could be that Cass's pull a movie deadpool in response to the trap. while Kat was lucky to get hers from birth.

Also I get the impression that people have fewer limits in Runeterra allowing them with training to perform superhuman feats, as Darius can cut a lot of stuff normal people can't, Riven wielding an insanely big sword, Draven's eyesight and Talons skills in stealth and assassination. I'd say that Cass was just more of a girly-girl than a fighter because she is more inclined to seduce and trick someone than to up-front beat the shit out of them like her sister would have, but still I get the impression she has some skills as she did get the drop on Sivir.

But the big question that might debunk my theory is: is magic hereditary?

Do note that Kat's magical damage is more of a gameplay than a lore thing. She was one of the first champions with bonus AD scaling, and at the time it would have been pretty terrifying for her to do physical damage on top of that. Making her a magical assassin was a way to limit her power.

That being said, we don't have enough evidence to point in one direction or another. We don't even know Swain's origins, for all we know we could have originally been a commoner himself.

I know it's more of a gameplay thing but the fact that so many upper class Noxians use magic and while those with a more hands on approach do physical damage was something that caused me to think about that.

Vlad may have been a commoner as well but a noxian wouldn't bail out of town unless his victims were from a respectable family. But when he met a hemomancer hermit he eventually became a member of the black rose like swain used to. Regardless if you are a lowborn or not many of the noxian aristocracy are magic users. in other words. Posh noxians use magic, lowborn or more "humble" expect cough Draaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaavn cough use physical power to get the job done.

On the other hand, Katarina is a direct contradiction to this. Literally everything she does is hands on. Her kit revolves around throwing daggers, which is only slightly less mundane than swinging a sword. She uses magic to assist her, but its not really her primary form of combat.

Edit: Plus, Talon atleast uses some magic for his ult, and probably Draven too.

Yeah, it's still magic but it only really manifests to help her do the mundane better.

Well that is because she would be using magic to enhance her power, that is why i mentioned that she could have been a descentant of magic users, what if they went from being spell casters to being assassins by channeling their magical power into their weapons and thus her stronger attacks are fueled by magic. do deal magic damage means to have some level of magic power in you but only a few have the raw power to harness it on hand like a real mage could do

some being use magic like a mage while others like to channel it through their body to enhance it or their techniques. Kat seems to be the later as she gets physical, but her damage is magical in nature, a direct contratition to her adoptive brother, talon who I doubt have any kind of magical power what so ever.

But speaking in regards to Talon, he could be using Ki or runic energy to hold his blades up during his ult. Why do I say this? Well because Riven, another lowborn noxian can use "Ki Burst" and that deals physical damage in spite if it being a non-solid attack, Along with with holding up her shattered blade and using wind slash ult, without dealing any magic damage what so ever. with is the opposite of Kat on some level.

Not everone on Runeterra need magic to pull off some crazy feats.
