@Riot. Is Katarina the descentant of magic users turned blade masters?

Hi all. this is a question for both riot and you guys. I was always wondering if Katarina and the Du Couteau family were magi before becoming blademasters because most of her damage is magical and most of the aristocracy of Noxus are magic users while the commoners or lowborn use only physical damage such as Riven, Talon and the Blood Brothers.

So I was wondering if that was true because looking at the damage and rank they have in lore. it just seems like too much of a coincidence.

I think it'd make sense, though from what the Piltover lore confirms is that magical abilities are basically gifts that people are born with.

Not arguing against your theory, just going on a tangent that possibly explains not only that Cassiopeia can have such magical abilities from her affliction (getting snake powers doesn't really seem like something you should get from a trap. It's possible that the latent magic in her bloodline was forced out in response to it) but also why Talon who was given additional training from the house head has no magical abilities.

Katarina's magic might just be how it manifests itself despite her training being in a rather mundane art. This could point to Katarina being a potentially very powerful mage if she was trained properly.

Instead she just gets magic knife tricks. Not that she's complaining.

Do note that Kat's magical damage is more of a gameplay than a lore thing. She was one of the first champions with bonus AD scaling, and at the time it would have been pretty terrifying for her to do physical damage on top of that. Making her a magical assassin was a way to limit her power.

That being said, we don't have enough evidence to point in one direction or another. We don't even know Swain's origins, for all we know we could have originally been a commoner himself.
