Just out of Curiosity...
Does anyone else think..that if riot hadn't used up all their effort on Esports, that the lore would be in better shape? Not to be negative, but these other MOBA games like Dota and Dawngate are deeply connected with their lore. Hell, Dawngate have running comic series called The Dawngate chronicles. Riot had the Joj, and made an excuse that it wasn't attracting a lot of players. A lot of game players that is. So they propose the ideal to make esport tournaments. And discontinue the Joj. That definitely got players here. But the lore could have grown just as much as the gameplay did. This is why Riot is losing fans. I've tried out these other mobas and spoke to people. A lot were former league players. I ask about lore for those games as well as viewed it, and I got lot of the same feedback. "Riot's lore is shit compare to Dawngate" "Strife is going to make riot go out of business" "Dota's storyline has a way better setting than League's" This is the exact feedback I got. Now that I've seen it for my self, I understand it more. League is older than these games, yes, but they should have a lore setting at least on par with the new mobas. They have no time line nor a consistent lore basis. And to come to think of it, This all of a sudden lore reboot is proving my point. I'm no vet, as I have said in other threads, I started Jan this yr. So I am not as "compassionate" as the other guys. But, I've seen the work from the last yrs and I don't understand how the lore is in a poor state. But I've come to a conclusion is because Riot as a company doesn't try to maintain both their "Esports," and gameplay, along with lore. Instead, they heavily sponsor the tournaments and moderately sponsor gameplay. And the original objective was to get more players...Riot you have over 20,000 people playing a day. You have achieve this goal already. And it was not just this year. When the lore complaints pile up, they do an event and think that's suppose to make up lore. And make a small promo for the "rework of one champion???" and consider that lore. But they haven't shown any of their said promises in the Dev Blog. Save the little lore bios for the small selection of the Shurima retcon. That's about it. Not even did they get a website page like they said. And from what I understand, from rioters, they say it all takes time. It shouldn't take that much time if you supposebly have different teams doing separate things. The question of the Century: Where was the Narrative/ Lore team the last 2 yrs? Or so I hear a lot. You can't possibly tell me it took them 2 yrs to come up with the Shurima lore. What I don't understand is; how do u have a lore team that went silent for that long? If u had one, to be frank. And if so, why did it take them that long to respond to anyone about what they are doing? These are questions I am asking out of curiosity that's all. These new Mobas just might run riot out of business. My concern, I like league of legnds and it's somewhat of a lore. The lore is what attracted me. I wouldn't want to see the business and game go because of the said problems.
