What's the lore behind the Cosmic skin line?

Are they the rivals to the Dark Star group?

When we arrived at the idea of doing some more Cosmic skins, which happened quite organically around the Xaya/Rakan launch skins, we talked about them representing wondrous gods/beings that tribes tell stories about as they look up at the constellations in the night sky. Sort of mythological deities that you tell stories about around the campfire or out upon a tavern balcony. We even started to sketch out some ideas about Xaya and Rakan representing the sun and moon, endlessly searching for each-other across the sky but never quite touching. Due to his name and play style we though Kassadin represents a more merciless force - maybe he's responsible for carving canyons and valleys and bringing misfortune to rural villages? I thought swift Yi reminded me of Hermes, but that's just in my head. He's inspired in part by shooting stars and comets.

When we started posting art internally the number one question was 'Are they related to Dark Star?' and while that wasn't our primary intention we have thrown around a few ideas as it makes sense that cosmic deities be linked. We pitched the concept that Thresh is sort of like Hades to the Olympians - They are all linked to brilliant celestial bodies while he had governance over black holes, the eternal darkness, the void between stars. Poetically this might cause him to resent the beings of light who are so beloved by all, and in doing so use his power to overcome and twist those gods to his will one by one... but that's just some idea about how people might tell stories of their mythos.

There was also a really cool idea thrown out at the same meeting that when Thresh feeds an inhabited system into his dark star, some terrible new force is born as a side effect - a mockery of the life that was consumed. So if a world of tinkers, inventors and artists was consumed it would create a being like Orianna, but if it was a jungle planet full of primal monsters then it would create a being more like Kha'zix.

Curious to know what others think about them!

This is something that's been on my mind since the leak. Also, how do the dark stars relate to the star guardians. Moreover, how do the three skin lines relate.

I think the Cosmic line fights to protect the universe from Dark Star. Riot will mostly likely release top laners for both skin lines together and cement a rivalry between them in the lore or splash art.

I considered Star Guardians as a rival to Dark Star but it seems unlikely due to the sheer difference in scale. A girl wouldn't be able to stop a creature that destroys planets with a swipe of its claw. Which opens the door for Cosmic to fight them.

It's probable the top laner for Cosmic will be a legendary skin to bring lore and to parallel Thresh.

It could also be an excuse for Illaoi or Yorick skins but it isn't likely to be too soon given the leaks.
