With the mage hunts going on in Demacia, you'd think Noxus would use the opportunity to strike

Jarvan IV is only weakening Demacia's position by devoting all his resources to hunting down the mages in Demacia, and I imagine Swain's gonna catch wind of it and capitalize on it. It'd be really interesting if the follow-up to the Lux comic were to involve Lux learning that a Noxian invasion is coming and that she and her refuge mages need to do something about it, as Demacia won't win if it's fighting itself.

Of course, that's just speculation. Swain could also wait until Demacia has crippled itself sufficiently through infighting before he strikes. Still, that doesn't mean he couldn't send in a few raids.

It´s actually better for Swain to just wait, if he carelessly invades and everyone goes like " we must team up to take down these real bad guys before we settle our own issue´s!" then he´s the one who ends up with a losing hand. ' Even if he wins he loses soldiers for no real reason.

Instead he can just chillax for everything to finish as more and more fighters are dying as the battles drag on, eventually they´ll be so weak that a invasion is basically bound to succeed even if they team up.

It aint looking so good for Demacia at this pace.

Swain really doesn't care about Demacia as much as Darkwill would have.

  • Needless wars have weakened Noxus before Swain installed the Trifarix
  • Noxus and Demacia have fought in the past and it led to a draw
  • To maintain contiguous borders Noxus would have to conquer all the smaller kingdoms between Demacia and Noxus (Arbormark etc)
  • And finally, Demacia really isn't the main threat, Swains' visions and the rot at the heart of Noxian society is the threat Noxus must deal with first. The Black Rose and Mordekaiser.

Darkwill's downfall was opening multiple war fronts around the continent (in order to search immortality for himself).

Swain's main merit was to close such fronts. I don't think he's going to re-open one of them. Demacia might be small, isolationist and stale, but it's still the second military power in Runeterra. Moreover Demacia is massively fortified and Noxus can't afford an attrition war.

Also we should consider two things:

  • Mordekaiser is returning and he's pissed at Swain for snatching the demon of secrets directly from the death realm. The immortal bastion is the gateway for the afterlife, so the attack will begin in the heart of Noxus, and thus its armies shouldn't be on the border.
  • Swain saw the future, and he hints at the importance of Demacia. He might have an interest at leaving it alone until the reckoning (void, celestials, world runes etc.)

Who knows? Maybe Noxus is already exploiting the situation.

I doubt we'll be getting a full scale Noxian invasion anytime soon, but maybe they know what's going on and are currently bidding their options.

It could be he's waiting to prevent that very thing from happening.

The last thing you want to do is give your enemy something to unify against.

The real question is how many mages in Sylas' ranks are not Demacian?

If there are mage hunts going on, why hasn't Lux been tortured and hung drawn and quartered yet?

So she's gonna get it harder than the rest of the mages then, cool. Cannot wait to see how grisly her demise will be.

Noxus and Demacia don't share a border anymore, so Noxus might have no idea what is going on in Demacia or is unable to act since they'd have to march through a bunch of smaller nations to reach it.

With that being said, it is unknown who killed Jarvan III, it is possible that this was the doing of a noxian assassin.

This might've been a good argument before Sylas broke out and started his rebellion proper, but now that he's out and wrecking shop the mages can't simply be ignored.
