Why do champions respawn? How do they change looks? What is summoner's rift? The answer is Amumu.

The League of Legends is in reality a dream world that Amumu, so desperate for friends, created. Every night he cries himself to sleep, and every night he finds solace in his dreams; a place where he is a champion of justice, where he fights alongside other champions, all of them based off characters he has met or heard about in his travels around Runeterra searching for friends. The majority are representations of those who have become real living Legends because of their exploits in the Great Rune War, a conflict between the different city states of Valoran; Garen of Demacia, Darius of Noxus, Tristana of Bandle City. Others like Skarner are based on mostly forgotten legends, one of the many sapient species of so long ago that no one remembers how they once populated the entire desert of Shurima. Some like Rammus and Malphite are Amumu's creations - champion versions of the many vast non-sentient creatures located within Runeterra that he had once miserably failed at trying to befriend.

Sometimes when he eats too much before nighttime, his dreams get a little wonky, and the champions show up with a different appearance. and even famous heroes of the land known for their seriousness appear with revealing or silly attire.

While Amumu will occasionally have nightmares of a dark and sinister forest, The Twisted Treeline, reminding him of his troubled journey through the Shadow Isles, he also has dreams of the Howling Abyss, the great bridge that he once visited while in the Freljord, and when he goes to sleep with nostalgic thoughts of home he dreams of the Crystal Scar. But mostly he dreams of the Summoner's Rift, his idealized version of forest paradise where he summons his friends, fighting together as champions and legends.

This would explain why heroes can flash and teleport, recall, respawn, why there are weird things like Rammus mixed in among the "serious" lore of Noxus and Demacia, and skins. It's all Amumu's fault.

Somebody made a similar theory involving Velkoz, where he had disintegrated all champions in Runeterra (fo' science, yo) and the whole game is just Vel'koz calculating how different champions would have reacted in different situations, like testing grounds, but in his brain.

That also explained why of all lores, Vel'koz's one is in first person.

or you know theres the original story where every player is a powerful sorcerer who summons champions from history or from reality to serve as an avatar to do battle with one another. Essentially turning the hero or villain or monster of legends into their puppet. Why you ask? For amusement of the masses and to settle disputes between city states without wars that cost civilians their lives. The summoners are like professional sports players with the best being hired out by the city states to serve on their team such that they will have the most gains out of conflicts with other states. The champions themselves are as I said Monsters who are too dangerous to allow to roam free so they are bound eternally by the summoner's puppetry magic, as well as heroes of war who volunteer their services to still feel useful through battles which no longer occur outside of the mystical battlefields of the summoners. Where the summoner's magic is able to move your about the battle field, set your foes aflame, heal, and protect (summoner spells). While the core of their magic being keeping you trapped in this world, pulling you from even the jaws of death and reconstructing your body again and again to serve as their weapon. You may even face a version of yourself from another time, perhaps it will be the you from the day you went to the beach (pool party skins), perhaps it will be the you before you were corrupted by darkness (Justicar and Arclight), maybe even you from the future (iBitzcrank) - forever caught in the magic of the summoners thrown into the same forest time and time again to kill one another over and over. Never truly dying.

Is it really Amumu's dreams? Or is it the remenants of Vel'Koz's mind of the champions he has met in his Journey for knowledge? Summoners Rift is basically a rendition of Vel'Koz with the Nexus being his big eye and the inhibs being the little ones, the base is his body and the lanes are his tentacles

Noxian and Zaunite necromancers on the red team bring them back to life.

Demacian and Ionian healers for the blue team.
