Riot's concept of what a Void critter is has evolved (
hur hur) quite a bit since they released Rek. The monsters Diana fought against in her story were more like something out of The Thing than the bug-monsters of old. Tentatively physical eldritch horrors constantly warping and morphing and generally being unpleasant.
I loved the designed of the deep horror Nami bumped into. Looks vaguely like a basket star, but otherwise you're dealing with some kind of non-Euclidean monster that's so alien it's difficult to tell if it even counts as alive or not. The curving, fluted look of the Void incursion has a decidedly otherworldly feel to it as well. There's enough regularity to it that it makes a certain degree of self-consistent sense, but otherwise it isn't particularly comparable to anything.
Top notch job.
Makes me yearn even harder for a full top-to-bottom visual update on all the Void champs.
Also of interest: we get to see another example of the indomitable Will that dwells in the Void (or maybe is the Void?) subsuming the will of lesser beings into itself. I'm still hoping there's more to this thing's motivation than 'Hey guys, we totally aren't Tyranids, I swear.'
