Mordekaiser passive VFX - Random polygons?

It makes such a big dissonance with overall VFX composition. Everything in his visuals looks live - clothes, club, energy, the hand in his E. Everything in his visuals is smooth and rounded. Except for polygon triangles.

Why triangles? Shards? Why not leaves - allusions to fall and decay? Why not mist - Shadow Isles? Why not dust - decay? Why not anything natural instead of generic polygons?

I think shards of metal is perfect since is body is made of a full metallic armor Leaves and dust could be ok imo Mist no, morde has nothing to do with Shadow Isle curde

It came from his old W where he would summon a cloud of metal shards to envelop himself (and/or an ally target of his choice) with, as the 'Master of Metal'.

The shards the new Morde commands now in his W, metal or soul or maybe both, nobody knows. But it isn't out of place of his design.
