Since we know about Syndra and Zed's childhoods and their current personalities, how would they treat their chosen heirs? Zed apparently doesn't want any of his Shadow Order pupils to surpass or be equal to his skill, but I'm not sure how Syndra would treat hers.
Marbelara5 votesMy thoughts so far in no particular order:
- The heir would definietely have a very nonstandard upbringing no matter the flavor (loved or unloved), considering the temperaments and histories of their parents - both, in their opinion, betrayed by the guardians they trusted and loved, and sooner or later having no real parental figures, plus their position as villains.
- I'm betting the ending result of their upbringing would be some sort of Tyke Bomb. Also, I think they might be both genre savvy enough not to treat the child badly (the unloved route) - as that is what makes children revolt. Instead they'll be decent at least, teach the child to survive and take over once the time comes (probably with their natural/battlefield deaths).
- For example, I can see it as Syndra coddling the child in her temple (to give her and Zed full parenting control + protection) and encouraging every attempt at magic, something she values above all else (though I'm not sure how well she'd react to the child ever outperforming her)...
- ...while Zed would train them hard to match his own power to not bring him shame (And if he's indeed that paranoid, then not surpass him. He might appeal to Syndra's vanity and make her cap the magic lessons as well.).
- If they would love their children and/or each other (the loved route), then they might even spend leisure time as a sort of disfunctional family.

Because Syndra and Zed are the "Bad guy" couple.
Their pairing appears to done more out of mutual respect and societal alignment than anything else by what I know.
Garen and Kat was old lore (which means they need an update on the juicy deets)
There is also Illaoi and GP, but people tend to misunderstand or not fully comprehend as Illaoi appears to be the dominant one in the relationship.
I remember someone complaining about how her relationship to GP undermined her character becasue it made her reliant on a man for her story and not independent. Illaoi is not only VERY independent, she is not reliant on GP. GP is reliant on her. By the looks of things, She influenced GP more in their relationship than he did for her. Because it was HER culture that shares fruits (her mango and his orange). It was HER advice for him to be strong for Bilgewater (hell, she was the reason he went with being the "pirate king"). And it was to HER GP came crawling to after all hell broke loose.
And even though it hurt her, did she cry? Did she coddle him? No. She told him to "Stay in motion" and tested him with Nagakabouros. She did something she KNEW could potentially kill him because it was her job and duty. She loved him, but her duty came first.
So, as I said before, "She's an independent black woman who don't need no man."
Overlord Forte2 votesWere the bulk of the pairing not originating from a doujin with a disturbing bastardization of their characters ... Even still, the virulence of it continues to surprise me.
Garen and Katarina are old lore, but also pretty much the most popular secret still in the closet. An update there would be curious, though probably for when Demacia and Noxus get a pass over. Again, I'm surprised at how, comparatively, this pairing and others are still under the radar these days.
The idea Illaoi having a relationship undermines her character is outright wrong, though. Their relationship was portrayed quite well, and actually in severe opposition to the traditional narrative deadlock. The mere notion of an independent woman picking and choosing who she wants is enough to send conservative necks snapping in sheer rage. It would be funny were it not so medieval still.

Anyways, I actually like the Zed x Syndra because after thinking about it for a while, it makes some sense purely when it comes to "alliances"
When you are a dark character or individual who KNOWS for a fact that others will oppose you purely for what you stand for, you tend to pair yourself up (or at the least associate) with others who may be in the same situation.
Syndra has her own citadel and could be a type of shogun for which Zed (and his Shadow Order) could possibly work for or be allied with.
Hell, Zed could be the main assassin Syndra uses to help her rid herself of political opponents and enemies. While that's more of a business relationship, any budding "lovey dovey" relationship would need to somehow be explored in depth because they would need a lot of situational coercing to give themselves over to another person. Especially since Zed's old love interest is now a sworn enemy (Akali)
Overlord Forte2 votesYou actually hit the nail on the thought strain I work with. Syndra is very much the Shogun to Zed's Ninja, she gives his deadly arts a purpose. Ninjas without masters are simply murderers, nothing more than ritualistic thugs. Political goals is what typifies their entire existence.
Where I diverge, however, is in that although both of them are 'Dark Ionians', they are such for extremely different reasons. Syndra was betrayed by her trusted leaders, then persecuted by her society for fighting to be free. Zed turned to forbidden arts to surpass his colleagues and achieve recognition, but did so with terrible consequences. Syndra was always her own person, but Zed lost a part of himself in becoming 'the Master of Shadows'.
Thus, I would say Syndra would regard him as dangerous in the extreme, but useful. Her political resources are limited, and she has the aptitude to keep him in check (for the time being). Anything more than that ... really stretches it to me. Zed's personal story is more tied to the Kinkou, as you mention, than Syndra. Theirs is a Shogun/Ninja alliance at best, while the human drama of Zed's story unfolds with Shen and Akali.
Syndra's is destined elsewhere, most likely the ideological battlefield with Karma.

Forgotten as in yet unmentioned? If anything, it's getting more and more popular. People love the dynamic of their characters and how much depth it adds to them overall. Plus predicting their true feelings and motivations makes for a great discussion.

This one is in a sad spot indeed, because nobody knows if Amumu is a child or a yordle anymore. They still make great friends thou.
Solidair31 votesSyndra just likes growing power in general. If she saw someone rivaling her own power, it would likely excite her. Her in-game quote "this is what I live for!" is a good example to support this. She likes to challenge herself and I think the potential for a successor would be great for her.
But I think she would treat them somewhat harshly, not giving it to them easy. She wouldn't coddle them, and would probably try to "toughen them up". After all, for her looking back, her childhood wasn't great. After she found out what her old Master did, anyway.
Those are just my thoughts though.

The Whamboozler1 votesWell there's... really nothing to Syndra in the official lore beyond "I was super strong but they didn't want me to be TOO strong but then I was and now I'm mad that they held me back!". There's no explanation for where her power came from or how limited or limitless it is or if she even COULD teach someone else how to do what she does.
Zed at least is the result of a lifetime of training under Shen's father, and his shadow arts come from a forbidden TECHNIQUE, so in theory it could be passed on.
