That specific Harrowing where MF and Gangplank made a truce happened 1 year ago. Now if Burning Tides is the most recent event in the timeline, it doesnt effect anything that happened in that event. I personally dont think he is dead, because Riot always does this stuff.

Nautilus is a Bilgewater character by way of thematics and association, but hardly qualifies as a character with any ties to the place. While his lore needs to remove the reference to the Institute of War, there's no reason it can't stand as his permanent lore.

And, as Kyoki Shinkuro said, he may very well materialize in the Harrowing again. He did get a brief reference in the last piece of lore we got about the Black Mists, so we may pick up with Naut this October.

Yeah, but given that the idea of a joint fleet led by Miss Fortune and Gangplank already feels more like old lore than new lore, it feels like there's a decent chance the black mist lore is already going to get retconned.

I very much doubt that it will be retconned. Gangplank and Miss Fortune have every reason to be huge rivals with each other, which makes the fact that they teamed up against the Black Mist a VERY big deal. It raises the stakes and lets us as players know just how scary the power of the Shadow Isles is. While it very well could get retconned, I don't feel as though it's incompatible with what we've gotten from the Bilgewater event.

Whatever happens between Bilgewater Act 3 and Nautilus I hope it works and is not spontaneously cheesey.

I like to think he (or it) was 'the never-ending extra-planar energy' of the Noxus warship engine where Gangplank "stole the Leviathan, Swain’s personal warship and the pride of the Noxian fleet". Somehow it befits Noxus reputation for necromancy and war. None of the black oozing goo crap.
