Summary

Oban is a Support/Mage with strong global capabilities that has a strong early game presence.

Passive - Evolution Matrix

Oban maintains a network with all his Battlecast Guardian MK4's. When Oban uses an ability it is cast-able from the nearest champion or tower that has a Battlecast Guardian MK4. The host must be within a 3000 radius of Oban for this ability to effect the host.

Note - Basically when Oban uses an ability the point of origin of the ability is the closest host of a Battlecast Guardian MK4 or himself, granting him semi-global reach with his abilities to assist other lanes if he roams a little.

Q - Purifying Beam

Cast Range - 700 Mana Cost - 55/60/65/70/75 Cooldown - 14/12.5/11/9.5/8 seconds

Fires a laser beam in the target direction, dealing 40/65/90/115/140(+40% AP) magic damage to all enemies in its path and another 40/65/90/115/140(+40% AP) magic damage to those hit over 3 seconds.

W - N.C.S.

Cast Range - 700 Mana Cost - 50 Cooldown - 12 seconds

Generate a Noise Cancellation Shockwave, first dealing 40/55/70/85/100(+30% AP) magic damage to all enemies in a 250 radius of a Battlecast Guardian host or Oban. After a slight delay the the shockwave is focused and fired again in a straight line for 40/55/70/85/100(+30% AP) magic damage. Enemies hit are silenced and slowed by 35/40/45/50/55% for 2 seconds.

Note - Enemies can be hit by both the short range aoe and the skill shot.

E - Battlecast Guardian MK4

Cast Range - 2000 Mana Cost - 60/70/80/90/100 Cooldown - 20/18/16/14/12 seconds

Oban launches and attaches an autonomous sentry to target allied champion or turret. The sentry shields the target's last 50/60/70/80/90(+20% AP)(+10% of the targets max Life) health and regenerates 10/15/20/25/30 life per 5 seconds for the host until its shield is destroyed. Battlecast Guardian MK4 will freely attack enemies in a 600 range of its host for 20/25/30/35/40(+60% AP) magic damage with every attack (the host must be in a 3000 radius of Oban to attack).

Note - This ability remains indefinitely until the shield effect is spent from absorbing damage. Its attacks will prioritize the champion targets of the hosts basic attacks and abilities (in that order). Damage for Battlecast Guardians on allied champions is credited to the host (killing a champion grants the host credit for the kill and an assist for Oban if he cast an ability using the host while in combat). Battlecast Guardians gain 50% of Obans bonus attack speed and can proc Oban's on hit effects.

R - Hextech Shackles

Cast Range - 650 Mana Cost - 100 Cooldown - 120/90/60 seconds

Fires a magically charged, heavy chain-link in a target direction tethering the first enemy champion hit to the the host/Oban. After 2.5 seconds if the shackles aren't broken the target is pulled to the host/Oban, dealing 200/250/300(+45% AP) magic damage and stunning the target for 2.5 seconds.

Note - The tether breaks if the enemy champ and the allied host/Oban are more then 1000 units apart.

Lore

Viktor has worked tirelessly to progress what he calls "the glorious evolution" but realized it would be much more productive if he had a trustworthy assistant to leave important tasks, such as gathering experimental subjects and important resources. It was for this role that Viktor had Oban "evolved" for

Oban was Viktors first willing acolyte and the second human subject of Viktors experiments. Not long after Viktors work on Oban was deemed complete (at least for the time being) urban rumors began to spread through Zaun of robots stealing anything from raw resources to sophisticated machinery, even kidnapping citizens off the streets, never to be seen again. If these robots were captured in their endeavors, they would self destruct before any worthwhile information could be gleamed.

Eventually they were followed to their maker, delivering their payload, Oban. He had become as cold and unfeeling as his master with a cruel mechanical efficiency in completing his work. The detective who reported Obans activities soon disappeared as well and any investigation into all related matters was dropped for fear of being the next victims. Once he stockpiled enough resources for his master, Oban joined him in the league to assist Viktor in his research and development.

"We are progress... the glorious evolution. The master reaches ever higher. Our time is coming.. we cannot be stopped" - Oban

Cast Range - 450 Radius (smart cast from the nearest applicable ally target to the mouse) Mana Cost - 50 (initial cast) Cooldown - 10 seconds

First Cast - Charge kinetic energy and begins rotating between a push and pull effect. Second Cast - Selects the current effect to be used in the next 8 seconds. Third Cast - The kinetic energy is released, pulling in or pushing away all enemies from the epicenter and slowing them by 25/30/35/40/45% for 2 seconds.

Note - This ability is centered on a host or Oban

  • Reduced both instances of ap ratios for Q - Purifying Beam from 70% each to 40%

  • Reduced the damage of Hextech Shackles (R) from 400/450/500(+70% AP) when the target is pulled.

  • Added an effective range for Oban's passive "Evolution Matrix" between oban and an intended host. This range was also included for Oban's Battlecast Guardian Mk4's to actively attack.

Nice concept, but isn't giving him pull on two different abilities a little too much? What if instead of pushing or pulling the opponent, when you activate it, the guardian starts building up charge for each attack dealt to the one holding it, and the more it charged the higher the damage dealt?

looking back on it i thought it was a little repetitious too but i was looking for some sort of soft cc to help allies catch or disengage from fights. Silence is becoming a rare cc these days I might just make something that uses this

I like how original your idea is for a replacement skill but burst is simply too powerful in the game to make this idea regularly reliable

Adriqnohee1 votes

Silence is rare because Riot doesn't like it, a single skill with burst damage is not really a problem, specially when it has such a huge counter (stay away for a while and it becomes useless), the problem with burst is when it can take you from 100 to 0 in half a second which is why most assassins are getting a longer burst window in the update, but as a mechanic burst its neither too weak or too strong, that is, if you don't give it a gigantic number of course, but there is a small detail that makes this kit too strong, even if you took half its damage away, Oban is too safe in team fights, the health scaling on the E means that Oban will give it to the tanker and that most likely means the ADC has no way of surviving the first wave of CCs, and there is no way for the enemy to retaliate because Oban can do it from half away across the map, he doesn't even need to be in the fight to participate, Oban would definitely become the best top laner on the game, he has no need for teleport when he can burst the adc in the bot lane, from the safety of his tower in the top lane, and he can take ignite or exhaust to help him with dueling in the top lane, his E need to lose the bonus health scaling, or at the very least receive a massive nerf to the range, just imagine a vi jumping on the ADC while she has the shield on and Oban burst the adc down from his base.

I agree it is a relatively safe tactic for him but the reason i built his e the way i did is because the shield portion only protects the last bit of the targets hp. by the time the shield is relevant the target is already low hp and looking to survive (or at least should be) and there's a fair number of abilities out there that already deal more and more damage the lower hp their target is burning through the shield while chasing a fleeing target shouldn't be much of a hassle. the shield and the hp regen are there honestly to give some survivability to the host while oban can use them to cast his abilities. I added an hp percentage to the shield so it could be relevant protection at an early rank later in the game. The way i see it, players will save the bot for the last skill to upgrade since the other abilities provide damage and soft cc.

Another point i wanna bring up is that oban doesn't have a global range to cast his guardian bot (though its still got a good reach). If he wants any influence at any part of the map he has to take the time to go to the general area first and them migrate back to his lane. Even then if a champ is feeding and dying they won't be a reliable tool for oban to use his abilities with.

The last thing ill point out is that i did think the global pressure he's capable of could tilt the scales pretty hard (that can't be helped though since he can help every lane at some point or another). That is why i broke up the damage from his basic abilities to specific effects of his abilites. Half the damage of his Q is a DoT, if your chugging pots it shouldn't be difficult to get through and to get the full damage from his W the target must be standing on top of him or the target host (unless your a melee this is a bad place to be). Between dot damage and placement requirements to get the full bang for your buck enemy players should have plenty of time to get help of prevent some damage altogether. the last thing i want to emphasize is these skills aren't fired from every host, wont have a difficult time finding a host to use in other lanes but when a team fight happens he'll have to choose a properly positioned host at the right time to get the full effect for his abilities

I think i might downplay the damage of his ult though to emphasize its meant to be a kill securing tool.

On a side note with the summoner spells, the top-laner doesn't have to take teleport when they go there. The only reason that tactic picked up popularity was because professional teams used it successfully to set up ganks. Currently though, in regular or ranked games its usually little more then a tool for the top-laner to pick up more farm/get back to lane faster and normally doesn't have any tactical value for the players team. If i play top I'll usually pick up exhaust or ignite because its a regularly reliable SS to tilt fights in my favor. They have a shorter cooldown too so their more regularly used.

I do thank you for your feedback, its giving me info for me to re-evaluate this guys kit a little more.

Explain more clearer how the Purifying beam works. Is it like Viktors? Or does it mark the person for 3 secs in which another ability will trigger the second damage (Say Like Leblanc's Q)

fatyboomboom1 votes

The second half of the damage is a DoT (damage over time) and it freely damages all enemies the initial shot hits.

ExecutorDill1 votes

I like the N.C.S ability. But is it centered around Oban then focused as a skill shot? Or is it a skillshot on both hits?

fatyboomboom1 votes

its a short range aoe around the host of a guardian or oban first and after a short delay it fires the skill shot second

VivaLaKitten1 votes

nice concept however an ult that does that much damage and then stuns the enemy for 2.5 seconds is a bit too strong but also unreliable it also copies a bit too much from Morgana's ult you should change it up probably

fatyboomboom2 votes

someone else has helped me see that his ult is a little too much for what it does. Unlike morgs ult though it can only catch a single champ. to emphasize its meant for cc i reduced the damage component of this ult.

Thanks for telling me all the same though [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

VivaLaKitten1 votes

np, but I worry more about someone ghosting or flashing out of the ult's range because unlike Morgana who latches onto many he only has one, meaning it's more of a loss if that one gets away not sure how him being cc'ed will affect this as well

fatyboomboom1 votes

ya I get there's room for failure but there's still the fact that this ability has the chance to be cast across the map so if Oban is played right He'll have more then his fair share of chances to try again.

besides if it does fail because an enemy spends a summoner spell to get away its still a cooldown well spent in my opinion.

CFatalis1 votes

i like the champ but i think the mk4 should have a range around him the near global factor just makes him to strong for anything and would just turn him into a solo lane like Adriq said it would make it for any lane to have a free helper and riot doesn't like global s to much anyway more with something like that is not limited to a ult

fatyboomboom1 votes

do you mean like how if heimer steps too far from his turrets they deactivate? I suppose that would make it a little more fair, and just leave the target w/ the crappy shield and the regen while out of range. I'd still want the active range to be fairly large though, like 2000 or 3000 units. there's not much point to the E if he has to be standing right next to them to cast his abilities from them.

thnx for the input
