Was the "creativity section" of the Terms of Use always this brutal?

I know that it used to be in there, but I do not remember it being this absolute and borderline abusive. I had a neato champion concept that I wanted to post here (for the first time in all the years I've been a part of Boards and the old forum) and I thought it'd just be fun to kinda throw out a champ concept idea I had for a couple years now and just got around to typing it all out a couple days ago.

I know the odds of Riot swooping in and taking ideas from us are slim to none, and I'm not a paranoid person at all, but this whole thing kinda bugs me now that I've reread it in the new Terms of Use. I just don't remember it being that ruthless to creative fans.

They're prob just putting it there for legal reasons—namely preventing then from being sued if a concept or creation they created had happened to match a summoner's, and the summoner posted their creation before Riot announced it.

They have to cover their own asses. If someone wanted to (if that clause didn't exist), they could submit a concept, and if Riot then decided to use it they could then sue Riot for the rights to said concept.

Comma overload oh my god.

Ruthless? I mean it just basically states that Riot is free to use ideas you posted without compensating you for creating that idea if they decide to make something out of it. It's extremely unlikely Riot will straight up copy an idea from a fan idea but they might get inspired by them. In any case the original creator of the idea should not expect to be rewarded.

The reward in itself is to have your idea or portion of it in game if you ask me.

Honestly, if they would take any form of inspiration from my concepts, I would already be proud as fuck. Would never come to think about exploiting it for myself, seeing just a small bit of my ideas realised in this game would be the best feeling ever.

It's specific, not so much brutal. If you don't label things clearly, you do run the risk of people suing you. Even in the case where Riot does take an idea from someone, odds are they would do something to make up for it, if not for the free karma points.

Not ruthless, just specific. Not including that clause leaves open a bunch of potential legal liabilities from any number of vindictive fans. This clause heads off all of that stuff by pre-emptively declaring ownership.

Post the concept anyways. We're all here for the art, ideally, not because we're demanding that Riot take our stuff.
