Ultimate skins, What next?

Recently there's been a huge outburst to the "Ultimate skin" GG MF. The problem with the skin is that it doesn't introduce anything NEW it's basically just allowing you to chose your chroma in game, instead of in the client. It feels a bit lack luster. Yeah?

But what CAN riot do?

They can't be giving a gameplay advantage, so they can essentially cater to the two things, SOUND, and VISUALS.

Right?

Sound's probably the most unexplored one, but IMO anything created would be a bit lack luster in comparison to DJ sona, and model changes if = to LUX or UDYR would also feel, well lackluster.

In my opinion, as we are now we've somewhat reached the limit of ULTIMATE skins, where we need to go is Evolving skins.

Skins a tier above legendary due to their ability to change, but below ultimate because, they really aren't pushing riot's boundaries.

For a few suggestions,

  1. Any skins like GG MF that are basically an added function, but really don't allow you to "Grow" over the course of the game
  2. Evolving skins, for example the new Pizza Delivery Sivir, let us choose new toppings to add as we level up ;)
  3. Skins that introduce a new soundtrack, or have some heavy influence of sound.

Just my two cents, what about you boards?

(Oh right, and for future ultimates, a terrain changer would be nice, #VoidTaliyah?)

I bought all 4 of the ultimates, im not getting this one tho, its looks so forced, and its just disrespectful to not give a top laner a skin.

I would like to see an ultimate skin that changes the announcer, like DJ Sona changed the music. (I would totally pay more if I could get Ahris voicelines back when I play her Starguardian-Skin. °^° )

GGMF should be removed from PBE and improved, I love the concept but I don't think this one was well executed

Well yeah we could also have a Kayn situation where the champion chooses or "succumbs" to a certain fantasy and turns into an entirely new Legendary tier skin.

Imagine Leona, 'transforming' into a Lunari in the middle of the game or embracing the Solari completely just as an example.

What I would have loved to see with DJ Sona was the ability to make your own "tracks". When the skin was first revealed I thought that each ability had its own melody/tune/riff attached to it, which would keep playing until you used the next ability. This way you could build your own track with the order of skills you use. Unfortunately that wasn't the case and it was pretty much just a soundtrack playing in the background, overriding the default music. I think this would be something that can be explored, although that would mean we'd pretty much need another music-themed ultimate.

Other possibilities would be cool animations that interact with unique game mechanics. E.g. in URF we have finishers (from icons) that display an explosion animation whenever you kill someone. Other than that you could have animations for cs'ing or turret destruction.

You can expand on the concept of "evolving models", e.g. Tahm Kench's model evolving based on how many/the type of champions he devours. I'm sure many neat ideas can be thought of. Time-traveler Zilean, starts in prehistory and changes gradually to future cyborg zilean as he uses his ult.

A final possibility I can think of is alterations in the map. We've seen it now with Swain, who summons birds on the walls of Summoner's Rift. It would be cool to have some void-themed jungler who corrupts the jungle. Jungle camps (both surroundings as monsters) will change in appearance as the game progresses and these camps get cleared. This is also a unique option that hasn't been done with Ultimate skins yet.

Just some examples from the top of my head. Of course care should be taken that such changes wouldn't interfere with the clarity of the game.
