[Champion Concept] Izdureal, the Wandering Observer

Introduction

Welcome to my little concept for a champion and thank you for taking the time to read it. To be totally honest, I don't play very much, mostly when a friend drags me along. Also, I am not very good either, I tend to stick to support roles as much as I can, one of my favorite champions for it being an aggressive and harassing Lux. I feel that if I bug the other two bottom lane champions enough that my ADC can just focus on getting their creep kills, it will work out all the better in the end. Lately, my friend and I have just been sticking to ARAMs though, but I am often too reckless for my own good.

Enough of me though, let's focus on the concept at hand. I plan on doing an Overview section that will summarize the champion in a couple of paragraphs. I will then go into a background or lore segment to give a little story on the champion even though I haven't really read up too much on League's Lore as a whole. I have yet to do any real number crunching but I will include some thoughts on bases stats and growth. Finally, I will end by listing and explaining his abilities.

Overview

Izdureal is a man in pursuit of knowledge and awe, exploring the far corners of each new terrain he comes across. He often watches the environment around him and how it is always changing, listening to both animal and folk alike while keeping to himself silently. Because of this, he has become known as the Wandering Observer, a title that means little to him despite its fit. Izdureal does not specialize in any particular field of combat, but instead adapts to whatever he sees fit for the situation in front of him. Depending on Izdureal's highest stat, he will wield a different weapon that comes with their own abilities.

If his highest stat is Attack Damage, he will wield his scythe Voidripper and become a wild dervish that specializes in close ranged combat. If he is based around Ability Power, he will pull his staff Demension from his back that allows him to focus on channeling his inner energy into a destructive force. Should he favor his Health overall, he sheathes both weapons on his back and shows off his martial prowess, practicing precision and the ability to use his hands to fend off incoming blows.

Due to his lack of natural expertise and needing the time to develop himself as he fights, he begins with low base stats, making Izdureal a difficult champion to work with in the early stages of a match. To make up for this, his universal passive Expansive Adaptation will give a minor increase to all stat gains from gear which will allow him to quickly catch up and in some cases even surpass other champions that may be in a similar role or situation. The reasoning behind this is that I want a champion that anyone could pick up and play the way they like, allowing countless possibilities of play but at the same time, being difficult to master.

Background

Izdureal, or Izzy as he is often called by his peers, is the product of scholars, philosophers and traveling gypsies. He gained his thirst for knowledge while studying with scholars that he believed were as old as the dirt they walked upon. His studies in philosophy taught him to question the world around him, not to look at it and think, 'You are wrong,' but instead to look and think, 'Interesting, why would they do this?' The gypsies inspired his wanderlust and were the first to discover he was gifted with some form of magic though he struggled to effectively learn to use it on his own. These three influences were the primary factors in creating what is now the Wandering Observer.

He remembers nothing of his time and life before hie began his studies with the scholars. Any family he may have had are long gone to him, any home or friends barely a nagging thought in the back of his mind. Instead, he yearns to understand what the future could bring, always interested in watching would could happen rather than being the change. But the places he goes can be very dangerous, he learned this well when his gypsy caravan was assaulted by creatures beyond his imagination. In his whole life up to that point, Izdureal had never considered training let alone fighting. Instead, he learned how to properly defend himself using only his fists before heading out in search of artifacts that could help him should the need ever arise.

Of all things, he never considered the prospects of needing allies or developing enemies. He was kind to everyone he met, always following his morals of integrity and respect. Of all things, he enjoyed his own space and letting people have their own space. The question to ask yourself is, what would a champion like this be fighting for? Is it for justice and keeping his moral integrity intact? Maybe the dangers that impose upon him have finally driven him to the point of heading to the battlefield. Or maybe something hidden in his forgotten past has decided it didn't enjoy being forgotten.

Stats

Now, the last thing anyone wants is an overpowered of imbalanced champion to be introduced, the kind that get an instant ban in ranked matches because so many players cannot stand going up against said champion. What I do want though is stats that reflect the champion's background which would be something along the lines of low base stats, around average growth for them all and if leveled to 18 without any gear, would be just under the average for all other champions. As I said above, I would incorporate a universal passive that affected stat gain from gear the character wears to make up for this. I believe that with the low bases and the increased stat gain will create a balance of letting players develop the strengths they want while the low base stats keep certain areas of the champion weak. This could result in literal glass canon builds or heavy meat shields, finding a balance between offense and defense is one of the keys to mastering this champion.

Once I look into some actual numbers and do some calculations, I will edit into this post some actual figures for everyone.

Abilities

The passive and ultimate[R] abilities are universal across all stat builds. This means these two abilities will be your passive and ultimate for ADC, AP and Health builds.

Passive - Expansive Adaptation: Increases the amount of each stat Izdureal gains from gear by X%.

[R] Ultimate - Unleashed Potential: Unleashes a ring that originates from Izdureal and expands outward toward the edges of the map dealing X/X/X damage to any minion or enemy champion hit. Cooldown of all abilities are reduced by 2 seconds per champion hit and 0.5 seconds per minion hit. When an enemy is struck by the ring, that small segment disappears from the ring. Does not affect jungle monsters.

[ADC Build]

[Q] Reave Essence: A brutal slash that hits all enemies in a cone in front of Izdureal, dealing X/X/X/X/X physical damage and healing Izdureal for 5% of the total damage done. [W] Drag Them In: Izdureal takes Voidripper by the hilt and reaches out with the scythe, attempting to hook the blade around the first person in front of him. Successful attempts move the victim next to Izdureal and slows their Movement Speed by 40% for one second. (Short reach, range increases slightly each rank and cooldown reduction each rank as well) [E] Perforate Artery: Aim the blade at a major artery, causing X/X/X/X/X physical damage and causing the target to bleed for X physical damage over the next 6 seconds.

[AP Build]

[Q] Whiling Staff: Flings Demension in an arc in front of Izdureal, causing it to spin and deal X/X/X/X/X magic damage to any enemy hit in its path. Higher ranks cause it to travel faster. [W] Surge of Energy: Izdureal lets loose a forceful blast of energy in all directions, dealing X/X/X/X/X magic damage to all enemies surrounding Izdureal and knocking them back. (Increased ranks increase radius around Izdureal) [E] Temporal Rifts: Uses the dimensional properties of Demension to place a portal at the targeted location, allowing a max of two portals at any one time. Izdureal and his allies are able to use the two portals to travel between them. (Increased ranks increase the distance allowed between the two portals)

[Health/Tank Build]

[Q] Raised Fists/Guarded Stance: Toggles between Raised Fists which increases physical damage dealt by 3%/6%/9%/12%/15% and Guarded Stance which decreases damage received by 3%/6%/9%/12%/15% [W] Demolishing Fist: A punch made with an iron fist, dealing X/X/X/X/X physical damage and reducing the target's armor by 5% for 6 seconds. [E] Sweeping Arc: A spinning kick that knocks down all enemies around Izdureal, stunning them for 0.3/0.6/0.9/1.2/1.5 seconds.

But then he will almost always be tank because that is always the highest starting stat and he would take far too much time to program and would likely be rendered unplayable by numerous bugs examplesKhazix Skarner andChogath. All jokes aside it is a good concept but with this much diversity he **has to have universal **vulnerabilities to be balanced and does not seem achievable at this point.

Personally I would go with gold invested and not highest stat.

Passive - Expansive Adaptation: Increases the amount of each stat Izdureal gains from gear by X%.

I'd probably have different % for different stats, and not all of them.

Seems interesting but I wouldn't make it global.

Q: Why would it heal him as an ADC? W: Don't make range increase with rank. E: Boring.

Problems with ADC Build: No survivability aside from Q healing. No steroids. You need stuff like Yasuo or Trynd or Yi if you want to do a melee carry. If you are going for assassin you need ways to dodge damage.

[AP Build]

[Q] Whiling Staff: Flings Demension in an arc in front of Izdureal, causing it to spin and deal X/X/X/X/X magic damage to any enemy hit in its path. Higher ranks cause it to travel faster. Q: Seems weird. Not really magicky for a mage. W:Force blast is cool. E: You'll have issues balancing this so it doesn't completely screw over immobile people.

Problems with AP Build: He'll be a support instead of an AP carry. No real flow between skills.

Q: That's it? W: Too simple. E: Simple.

Problems with health build: Too simple and boring.

Directions you could go: Create a way to stat shift like Morphling in order to be able to use all of his different kits based on needed use. What you need to do is make each kit have a unique style of play and flow. I feel like he should be a swing pick that gets first picked in order to go where he will be needed. Also work on health the most, it's just plain boring.

Universal vulnerabilities such as a lack of mobility a severe counter in all possible builds or large character model and an extremely weak early game so he becomes vulnerable to certain aspects of champs like morgana bind and like lux bind.
