[Champion Concept] Beauregard, the Daunting Sergeant

Visionova·5/26/2017, 5:18:09 AM·11 votes·734 views

"Alright, whelps, listen up! Criminals, delinquents, normal citizens, I don't care what any of you are! From now until the day you die, you are soldiers of Noxus! Now I want you all to give me a hundred and twenty, no, a hundred and FIFTY percent! Do I make myself clear?"

A stern yet reasonable drill sergeant for the Noxian military, 'Ironside' Beauregard is both beloved and feared by those who serve under him. A man who's said to remember the faces of every soldier he's ever taught, and who would gladly put himself in harm's way to protect any one of them despite his rough exterior.

"Listen up, you lot. Any of you ever have a problem, you just come find me. Each of you is special, a potential kingpin of this nation's military, and as your sergeant it's my duty to make sure you not only live to see that day, but that you have the strength to seize it!"

Concept Overview

Beauregard is very much a "kill lane" style of support, as well as being uniquely AD and physical damage based for the role. Like a more offensively-focused version of Taric, Beauregard's passive lets him designate a nearby ally for bonus functionality.

His passive grants his designated ally, as his Student, a burst of morale whenever Beauregard damages an enemy champion with an ability, increasing his Student's Movement and Attack Speeds for a short time so they can follow up on the sergeant's lead.

Q is a basic skillshot attack that hits the first enemy in front of Beauregard, applying a strong but brief slowing effect. If it hits an enemy champion, Beauregard's Student will deal a small amount of bonus on-hit damage to them with basic attacks for a short duration.

W is an auto modifier and reset, useful for trading, with the added bonus of shredding his target's resistances if they recently damaged his Student.

E is like a skill-shot hybrid of Bard's Q and Poppy's E. A linear dash, with Beauregard grabbing the first champion he hits and dragging them along with him, applying a brief stun at the end and %HP damage. If he hits two champions, he knocks them together, stunning them both for a longer time and doing damage to both. The second target, however, takes the same %HP damage as the first target Beauregard grabbed rather than from their own HP. This lets him ram a tankier target into the squishy behind them for high damage if they're not careful.

Finally, his ultimate lets him serve as a defensive fortification for his team, turning himself into a wall that blocks movement and enemy projectiles while granting his passive speed buffs to all nearby allies. Very useful for holding a position, for siege tactics, or even for walling off certain areas.

Passive: Lead by Example

Range: 175 (Targeting) / 1300 (Leash)

Beauregard can target one of his allies using a basic attack, designating them as his Student as long as they remain near each other. This doesn't damage his ally, and Beauregard may only have one Student at a time. Beauregard cannot designate a Student while either he or his target ally are in combat.

Beauregard Inspires his Student when he damages enemy champions using one of his abilities, granting his Student a burst of Movement Speed and Attack Speed for 3 seconds.

Bonus Movement Speed: 10 / 11 / 12 / 13 / 14 / 15% Bonus Attack Speed: 20 / 23 / 26 / 29 / 32 / 35%

After his Student has been Inspired, they become emboldened and cannot be Inspired again for a short time, reduced by 1 second each time Beauregard is damaged by an enemy champion while nearby.

Inspire Cooldown: 20 / 17 / 14 / 11 / 8 / 5

"Watch and learn, whelp!"

/-/-/

Q: Target Practice

Range: 750 Cost: 50 / 55 / 60 / 65 / 70 Mana Cooldown: 10 / 9 / 8 / 7 / 6

Active: Beauregard lashes forward with his whip, dealing Physical Damage to the first enemy he hits and Slowing them by 80%, decaying over a short duration.

Physical Damage: 10 / 25 / 40 / 55 / 70 (+100% AD) Slow Duration: 1.1 / 1.2 / 1.3 / 1.4 / 1.5 Seconds

If Target Practice hits an enemy champion, it marks them for 3 seconds, during which Beauregard's Student will deal [4 + (2 x Student's Level)] bonus Physical Damage to them on-hit.

"Concentrate your fire!"

/-/-/

W: Heartfelt Haymaker

Range: 175 / 400 Cost: 40 Mana Cooldown: 12 / 10.5 / 9 / 7.5 / 6

Active: Beauregard strikes his target with a vicious haymaker on his next basic attack, dealing bonus Physical Damage.

If the target damaged Beauregard's Student within the last 2 seconds, Beauregard gains the ability to dash a short distance to the target to perform the haymaker, and he strikes with such force that his target's Armor and Magic Resist are reduced by 20% for 4 seconds.

Heartfelt Haymaker resets Beauregard's attack timer.

Bonus Physical Damage: 30 / 45 / 60 / 75 / 90 (+2.5% of Beauregard's Maximum Health)

"Not while I'm here ya don't!"

/-/-/

E: Guillotine Grip

Range: 700 Cost: 50 / 60 / 70 / 80 / 90 Mana Cooldown: 16 / 15 / 14 / 13 / 12

Active: Beauregard charges forward in a line, dragging the first enemy champion he hits along with him to his destination. Beauregard cannot cross terrain with his charge.

If Beauregard hits an enemy champion, he slams them to the ground upon reaching the end of his charge, Stunning them for 1 second and dealing Physical Damage to them based on their Maximum Health.

If Beauregard hits a second enemy champion, he stops and performs the slam, dealing the Physical Damage and Stun to both enemies. In this case, the second enemy takes the same %HP damage as the first, rather than from their own %HP, and the stun's duration is increased

Physical Damage: 80 / 120 / 160 / 200 / 240 (+70% Bonus AD) (+7% of Target's Max HP) Increased Stun Duration: 1.2 / 1.4 / 1.6 / 1.8 / 2 Seconds

"Mistake number one: underestimatin' the sergeant!!"

/-/-/

R: Show No Fear

Cost: 100 Mana Cooldown: 120 / 105 / 90

Active: Beauregard and he roots himself for up to 7 seconds, reducing any damage he takes for the duration and becoming immune to crowd control.

While rooted, a wide aegis forms around Beauregard that blocks all enemy movement and dashes through him, intercepts any non-turret enemy projectiles that strike him. Additionally, he treats all nearby allied champions as his Students, continually granting them Inspire's bonuses for the duration.

Beauregard may end the effects of Show No Fear early by recasting it or by casting Guillotine Grip. If ended early, Show No Fear's cooldown is reduced by 8% for every second remaining in its duration.

Damage Reduction: 30 / 45 / 60% Wall Width: 450 / 600 / 750 Student Aura Radius: 425

"Here is where we make our stand!"

Any support for the manly Noxian veteran sergeant earns an upvote from me. Especially with a kit that inspires through action and wading into the fray yourself rather than clinging to people and spamming shields while hiding behind them :P

I'm much more of a lore person than a kit type (Often reflect on my own Noxian officer support and his story), but that E does seem like a better version of Poppy's charge. Maybe it should have some sort of delayed channel, or not stun at all unless two champions are hit? Do like the percent damage of the first being applied to the second though, that would really reward charging into beefy front lines and trying to toss them into their back lines :D

A Noxian drill Sargent? Hell yes! always loved the concept of a Noxian drill Sargent as a support character

one problem is the E seems a bit powerful (because of the stun duration) and similar to poppy's , instead of body slamming those he hits he could throw them back a distance instead depending on his movement speed and distance travelled to reach the target and slows the enemy for 1 second? and if they hit another champion they get stunned for the duration instead and also is the E considered a skill shot or is it like poppy's where it's a point and click ability?

My second problem is that he has a lot of crowd control in his kit, a 1.5 second 80% (Though it does decay) slow on Q at max rank, a 1 second knock up on his W at max rank and a 2 second stun on his E at max rank, seems like a bit much when it comes to CC, it makes his kit pretty oppressive since he can punish someone so much with his high ability base damage and CC from the abilities.

Example

Landing a Q is basically a guarantied E because of how slow the enemy he hits would be and he can follow up with a W if someone attacks his laning partner who'd most likely get hit if they go in by either the person who isn't CC'd or when the person who is CC'd gets out of the stun and attacks the ADC why retreating and end up knocked for for another second. The same could be applied to team fights and he'd Ult for his team to follow up on his engage. AKA he can easily force out a fight because of how long he can keep someone locked down.

but besides this I like the concept and the general idea of his hit and hope the Noxian drill Sargent will become a thing one day. :D [slayer-jinx-catface]

Finished the base stats and added a bit of flavor text to the abilities.

Tweaked the passive's functionality to make it a bit more straight-forward, and made W an AA modifier that shreds resistances on enemies that attacked the Student.

Changed the AD ratios to total AD instead of bonus AD, and adjusted the base values accordingly.

Figured it'd be nice if Sterak's Gage was good on him.

Are you happy with how W turned out?

Anyways I am all for supports that change the way that support in played to make them more dynamic, engaging, interactive and fun to play. We need more support ideas that challenge the traditional way to play them, this is one. It definitely helps that this guy has a unique and very impactful personality. I do like this idea and I do like this kit. I thinks its very cohesive, simple and it works.

I myself have been making unique support concept for a while (in fact just finished one), and the sight that this post in particular is popular makes me very happy!

Does his ult work like this? https://1d4chan.org/images/thumb/d/d3/Pauldronius.png/400px-Pauldronius.png

Joke asided i feel that its a decent ult, but the self root is too punishing. I understand if you don't want him doing much else during the ult such as casting W or Q, but I feel that he could do a much better job of: blocking all enemy movement and dashes through him, and intercepting any enemy projectile, if he could move. Do you think it might be better to at least cause the ult to drastically slow him as he channels and steels himself?

on another note where'd u get that summoner icon?

I wanted to write a short story for Beauregard, but I'm not a big lore buff, so it's hard. Maybe just him reminiscing about some of his students who perished in the battles for Ionia would work.

Added a little overview and my intentions for the design.
