@RIOT, Concept: Champion Specific Item Sets

If you really think about it, it must be insanely difficult to balance/maintain an ecosystem where every item can be chosen by any class/champion. You can create items that are intended to be used by certain classes or champions, but never guarantee other champions/classes will not use it or abuse it. Likewise any tiny change to items can have BIG ripple effects on champions the item was never intended to be used for.

So on that note, RIOT, what do you think about having pre-determined item sets for each champion or each class? (probably more feasible)

For example:

All classes could have their own unique "available item list" containing roughly 15-20 items to choose from with a wide variety of damage, utility, and tankiness. Some items may be specific to that class or champion, while others may cross over to other classes.

Common "Cross-class" items such as item 3053 could co-exist between each class sets, but not necessarily have to or have the exact same stats. The benefit of a system like this would allow you to make direct changes to available items that pertain to a specific class or champion, without drastically effecting the rest of the ecosystem. Likewise it would also eliminate the usage of certain items by particular classes that they were never intended for.

Using the example above, when you see ADC's "Sterak's Gage" providing too much power you can edit their version of it without effecting the balanced benefits other classes receive from their own version. Or if you feel that it was intended to only be used by the "Juggernaut" class, then make it available only to their particular item set.

I'm certainly aware of the large undertaking it would be to create multiple different versions of items and conditional stats. But It feels like RIOT runs themselves in circles trying to balance items, which only brings more imbalance in other areas, which they fix, creating yet again more imbalance in other areas. The cycle never stops.

What i'm suggesting is isolating these areas (or item sets) to each class so you can modify them uniquely without effecting the status quo of the other "balanced" champs/items.

Does this make sense? what do you think?

If this were implemented as a ground level feature for new MOBA with stricter role delineations? Absolutely, although the burden of knowledge would be high, given the requirement to remember all the distinct items available.

As League stands, however, I don't think it's a good solution. Too many champions blur the lines between roles, or can build in multiple ways.
