New Idea for Zac Ultimate

A while back I read a comment that really struck home to one of the issues with the rubbery champion, Zac. A community member mentioned that one of the problems with his kit is that it seems to be entirely reliant on the opposing team being clumped, thus his abilities are able to be most effective (slingshotting to knock up multiple people, hitting people with the stretchy arms and unstable matter). The problem: his ultimate completely goes against this playstyle, causing mayhem and completely separating enemy champions. Therefore, by using his ultimate (while providing interesting opportunities for the team) essentially causes the rest of his kit to be less effective.

So, while I was thus pondering this issue, I thought of an interesting way this could be addressed: giving him a new ultimate that would play into his kit better. This is my idea, in a couple of different forms:

Ultimate (R): Elastic Binding. Zac stretches himself into rubber arms, attaching to all (or up to x) champions within (x) meters, dealing (x) damage and slowing them by (x)%. After 2 seconds, Zac reforms, retracting his limbs and pulling all champions towards him, briefly stunning them on impact, and dealing (x) damage.

Alternate skillshot version: Zac fires a limb in a direction and latches onto the first enemy champion hit, dealing (x) damage and slowing them by (x)%. If he connects with an enemy champion, Zac roots himself in place and may launch 3 more limbs within 3 seconds. All champions hit by Zac's limbs are slowed by (x)%. After the 3 seconds have elapsed, all champions still attached to a limb are pulled to Zac, dealing (x) damage and stunning them briefly.

Purpose behind suggested ultimate:

An ultimate with this kind of mechanics works so much better with his kit. Yes, it is essentially a morg bind, except in my mind there wouldnt be a way to run away from the range, but that could be changed. It also wouldnt deal as much damage probably. The idea is that Zac can hard engage (probably with a slingshot) and then grab a couple champions and put them into position for him to use his unstable matter and elastic arms to deal as much damage as possible, while setting them up for the team to engage on.

The skillshot version makes it a lot less easy to handle, and gives it a little less reliability (so its not just another version of a amumu ult). The fact of him being targetable or untargetable during ult would also be up for consideration.

Anyways, let me know what you think!

I think Zac should be able to lead his passive chunks. That would make him a million times more viable.

I agree Zac needs some tender loving care. Your ideas are cool, but way to overpowered... they offer too much CC. The first one is basically an Amumu ult than also clumps all enemies hit into a small area. The skillshot one is 4 rapid fire blitz pulls AND a slows.

Reading your post you got me thinking about Zac and I had an idea for him.

What if Zac's ult would accumulate charges over time (like Teemo and Corki)?

At the cost of like 8% of his current health, Zac lobs a chunk of himself that sits on the ground as a blob for a period of time.

  • If an enemy champion steps on this blob, that champion is rooted in place (cannot move, but other than that has complete control over the champion). The blob will root the champion in place until it is destroyed by a single auto attack (any enemy can auto-attack it, including the affected champion).

  • If Zac steps on the blob, he regains the health cost but not the "charge."

One auto-attack to clear makes it sound under-powered. But it wouldn't be because during a team fight, chasing down people, or running, players are usually so concerned about clicking to move, positioning, cool downs, and everything else going on by the time they realized why they cannot move... it might be too late. In a team fight, one person could be assigned to clearing blobs from feet (support could do it because it only takes 1 auto) or players can clear their own.

This would give the game a new "twist" on an old mechanic. As well as but Zac back on the map.
