Olaf Rework Concept: Risk & Reward and Brutality

Olaf is among the oldest champions in League, and while I really enjoy his lore and think he has a solid foundation, his kit hasn't exactly aged well with the majority of it just being steroids. I think the champion has a lot of potential to be interesting and have a unique identity, but as it stands he's among the most bland champions in the game. After seeing how awesome Pantheon's rework turned out, I got the motivation to come up with this.

The aim of this rework concept is to keep Olaf's identity as durable, high-risk, high-reward champion who gets more dangerous as his health lowers. At the same time I also aim to cement his identity as a brutal warrior by having his axes and fists be a big part of his kit. I haven't included mana costs as I feel it's a small, unimportant detail.

Passive

Berserker Rage

Olaf passively gains attack speed and receives increased healing from all sources as his health gets lower between 80% and 20% of his max health.

Bonus Attack Speed: 0-20% at Level 1, 0-50% at Level 18

Bonus Healing: 0-20% at Level 1, 0-33% at Level 18

Q

Snjoflod & Stormur

Snjoflod & Stormur can hold 2 charges

Cooldown: 2.5 seconds

Charge Time: 12 / 11.5 / 11 / 10.5 / 10 seconds

Active: Olaf hurls one of his axes, dealing physical damage to enemies and slowing them with the duration based on the distance the axe travelled. Enemies hit by an axe are chilled, chilled enemies hit by another axe are briefly stunned before being slowed, consuming chilled.

The axe will be planted in the ground at the end of its travel distance or wall if it hits one for a duration equal to the current charge time. Olaf can pick the axe up to reduce the charge time of Snjoflod & Stormur by 5 seconds.

Damage: 75 / 110 / 155 / 200 / 245 + 85% bonus AD

Slow: 1-2 seconds based on distance, 18 / 21 / 24 / 27 / 30%

Chill duration: 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8 seconds

Stun: 0.6 / 0.65 / 0.7 / 0.75 / 0.8

Passive: Olaf's axes grant him bonus Attack Damage for each charge of Snjoflod & Stormur that is ready, this bonus AD does not apply to Snjoflod & Stormur's active. For each charge of Snjoflod & Stormur that is currently on cooldown Olaf instead brutalizes his opponents with punches, granting him bonus lifesteal.

Bonus Axe AD: 4 / 8 / 12 / 16 / 20 AD per charge

Bonus Fist Lifesteal: 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 % (+1% per 50 AP) Lifesteal per charge

W

Vicious Strike

Cooldown: 10 / 9 / 8 / 7 / 6

Olaf's next basic attack becomes empowered, dealing bonus physical damage with a different effect based on Snjoflod & Stormur's charges. This resets Olaf's basic attack timer.

If Olaf has at least one charge of Snjoflod & Stormur ready he hamstrings his opponent with his axe, dealing damage and slowing them decaying over 1.5 seconds. If they are chilled they are rooted for 1.2 seconds instead and chilled is consumed. This attack reduces the target's armor for 3 seconds.

If both charges of Snjoflod & Stormur are on cooldown Olaf instead strikes his opponent with a haymaker knocking them back a short distance. The haymaker does not reduce the target's armor.

Bonus Damage: 40 / 55 / 70 / 85 / 100 + 40% bonus AD

Slow: 50 / 55 / 60 / 65 / 70%

Armor Reduction: 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 / 30 + 15% target's bonus armor (+ 1% per 20 AP)

E

Reckless Leap

Cooldown: 13 / 12 / 11 / 10 / 9

Olaf leaps forward a short distance, stopping once he reaches the end of his travel distance or collides with a Champion, minion or monster. Olaf then swings his axe or fist in a wide arc in front of him, dealing physical damage to all enemies hit and healing himself per enemy hit, up to 3. Reckless Leap's damage is reduced based on distance travelled, doing 70% damage if Olaf reaches the maximum distance before attacking. Healing is reduced by 60% for each unit hit past the first, and an additional 20% against minions and non-Epic monsters. If Olaf is below 40% of his maximum health Reckless Leap is empowered and deals true damage instead.

Olaf reduces his own armor and magic resist on cast for 5 seconds. If Olaf kills a Champion or Epic Monster, or they are killed by Olaf within 2 seconds taking damage from Reckless Leap, the armor and magic resist debuff is removed and Reckless Leap's cooldown is reduced by 60% its current cooldown.

Damage: 85 / 130 / 175 / 220 / 265 + 60% bonus AD

Healing: 40 / 65 / 90 / 105 / 130 + 4% of Olaf's maximum health

Armor Reduction: 8 / 11 / 14 / 17 / 20

Magic Resist Reduction: 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 / 30

R

Ragnarok

Cooldown: 120 / 100 / 80

Minimum Health Requirement: 60 / 70 / 80% of Olaf's max health

Ragnarok can only be used while at least 1 enemy Champion or Epic Monster is near Olaf, and is ended early if Olaf leaves combat.

Olaf enters a battle trance, a nigh-unstoppable rampage for 6 seconds, gaining armor, magic resistance, healing over its duration and tenacity based on his missing health, maxing out at 41% of Olaf's maximum health. Olaf becomes Unstoppable if he drops below 40% maximum health during Ragnarok or if he casts Ragnarok while below 40% health. Olaf also gains movement speed moving towards nearby enemy Champions. If Olaf moves away from enemy champions during Ragnarok healing received from all sources is reduced by 50 - 75% based on level and Olaf slows himself by 60%. Ragnarok's self-slow is unaffected by tenacity and Unstoppable. Every takedown Olaf gets during Ragnarok increases its duration by 1.5 seconds.

Armor: 10 / 20 / 30

Magic Resistance : 20 / 30 / 40

Healing: 20 / 30 / 40 + 1% of Olaf's maximum health per half second

Minimum Tenacity: 10 / 15 / 20%

Maximum Tenacity: 25 / 30 / 35%

Movement Speed: 20 / 25 / 30%

1 second after Ragnarok is cast, Olaf can cast World Breaker.

World Breaker: Olaf smashes the ground in front of him with an axe or fist with such force it re-shapes the ground in a cone in front of Olaf. The shockwave deals physical damage to enemies in the cone, then creates a wall of rock and ice at the end of its travel distance for 4 seconds that blocks movement.

World Breaker Damage: 120 / 230 / 340 + 80% bonus AD

For anyone who made it to the end, thank you for reading. This kit may be a bit overloaded, even by modern standards, but I think it should be kept in mind that many of Olaf's options come with restrictions like needing to be at low health or requiring Olaf to not use his Q. Even if it is I think it's worth throwing the ideas out there so people can say what they do and don't like about it and give suggestions on what should be removed or added. Finally, to all you Olaf players, I hope you like these ideas.
