Concept: A new Ascendant Champion's Lore
I originally posted this on the EUW boards, but I think it should be shared more generally so now I'm also posting on the NA boards. I have not been able to find if this is against the rules, but if it is, I will gladly take down this thread again.
Okay, so...
With the Rise and fall of the shuriman empire, we've gotten an okay look into how their culture worked out. I however have a problem understanding two things about Shurima. One is their floating pyramids and the other their access to water, as it doesn't seem like there is a river like the Nile running through Shurima. I am here to hopefully give an theory as to how these can get an explanation through just one champion.
Through the years we've gotten a few ascendant champions, each having their own role in the Shuriman empire with only one that wasn't favoured by the priests of Shurima. Supposedly all of these are immortal, meaning if one turned rogue it wouldn't be possible to just execute him. There would have to be some sort of fail-safe to make sure that the evil ascendants were passified. I propose to you that the floating pyramids could be such contraptions. Considering the Tomb of the Emperors is a thing (Where Renekton and Xerath were locked up) I would find it weird for these pyramids to be built for normal humans. The Tomb of the Emperors is built underground, yet there are pyramids floating in the sky, supposedly raised above the desert so no one could touch them. It would make sense for nobility to be out of reach, but if it is beings so evil that they could only be locked up, it would make sense to keep them out of people's reach as to make sure that no one could release them. TL:DR: The Pyramids might hold immortal bad guys. If an ascendant turned rogue, I see no issue with locking them up in such a place.
Now for the second problem. The water. We are well aware that magic exists within Shurima and with that, I don't see why water mages capable of drawing water from far away shouldn't be possible, this just, to my knowledge, isn't confirmed or denied anywhere. A great name for these mages might've been Diviners, considering a they find water from afar and a Diviner's Rod is an 'ancient tool' used to find water.
Now, for the identity of an individual that went rogue. I propose that this would be one of the first ascendants, one of the Diviners, in fact the strongest Diviner of his time. This character while human would've helped build the city around the Sun Disc and as a gift, the light of the Sun Disc shone upon him and he became an ascendant. As he became ascendant however, he also got the gift of foresight, being able to see the future as it would pan out (Giving him the title of Diviner not just for finding water, but also future-seer). He saw the fall of the Shuriman empire as well as it's rise by the fall of Sivir
several millenias after and he knew he had to work towards making this reality. He waited, becoming a scholar, teaching Nasus
and became a folkhero over a long time. He was the one to endorse buth Nasus' and Renekton's
Ascension, knowing these had a part to play. He was however also the one who got Azir's
family murdered, making sure that he was the only one who survived, forcing him to take the crown of emperor. He fed Xerath's mind with greed and created a distraction for both Nasus and Renekton by releasing the Being of Fire(
?) from the sarcophacus that Xerath
was to later be imprisoned in. The Being was allowed to escape the two ascendants because our Ascended Diviner confessed to releasing it and murdering Azir's family right infront of Nasus and Renekton, for he had plans in this prison. He was locked up in the pyramids after which Shurima's fall began, just like he planned. As Renekton and Nasus went back towards Shurima, the pyramid fell, slightly shattering, but not enough for our Ascendant Diviner to crawl out.
Millenia passed and Sivir reawoke Azir, being carried into a pool of Healing waters that magically appeared before Azir. (It's in the lore, though never explained how. I would say our Ascendant Diviner summoned this water as he knew it would reawaken the Empire, forcing his prison to fly again, which would shatter it's opening so he could escape.)
That was the lore. Now to his appearance and his abilities. The ascendants all seem to take inspiration from Egyptian gods. Azir for Ra, Nasus for Anubis, Renekton for Sobek. I would model this Diviner after the god Khnum as he supposedly created the Nile and his children built the Great Pyramid (As to my understanding atleast). This would mean our Diviner would have the head of a Ram or Goat. His weapon would probably be a staff looking not an awfully lot different from a Diviner's Rod. His name could be anything, but personally I named him Kah as to take inspiration from the part of the soul that Khnum created.
Originally I created a kit that was an AP Tank/Bruiser, but considering the lore that follows him, he isn't really hit to be a bruiser. A mage would fit him much better, considering his history as a water mage and a Diviner. I am not sure how he would work towards his Diviner background, but making sure he never wastes a spell (Like making it have an effect if he misses) would make it work somewhat.
Anyways, I think that's all the ideas I've had for this character. I know it's quite a lot, but considering all the lore that's usually around characters, this isn't quite as much. I hope this was not a complete incomprehensive group of words. :3
