Traditional Lee Sin is just the name of the skin. It wasn't a skin they made before a VU.

Yup! For a bit more context, Traditional skins for VU'd champions is something we're moving away from.

How does that mesh with Captain Gangplank, which is essentially a Traditional Skin in and of itself?

ssssssh, or else we won' t have even those!

IronStylus explained how it's a bit different here. (I'm quoting him since he had a hand in the making of this particular skin.)

Does this mean that Traditional Karma and Traditional Trundle won't be coming back (A.K.A. they're Limited Edition, not Legacy)?

They're labeled as legacy, and iirc, can be given in Mystery Gifts, but they aren't available in the store.

this is a side question I was wondering for a long time, thx <3

I hate how quick Riot is to move away from anything they can't monetise. As a long time Sejuani player I love the Traditional Sejuani skin and as a player who played Fiora pre rework I would have like a Traditional Fiora skin.

We stopped creating 'traditional' skins when Sion's big rework came out. Ququroon explained the decision around that here. Hope this explains the change a bit more.

I'm aware of why you did it, that doesn't make it less disappointing. I actually think that the 3 traditional skins are amongst my favourites in the game and personally I like using them.

It actually kind of was. It's Lee Sin's design before they actually added him to the game 2 years after teasing him with this. He was supposed to be added looking like that during the Alpha but they did not really have the technology at the time to make his skills as they are today, so he was delayed and eventually released with his current design that we're all familiar with. :P
