Really trying to like Project Lucian...

but why did they go with such an ugly color scheme?

This is coming from someone who's favorite color is green. It just doesn't suit him. I know both his default and Hired Gun use white/dark purple as their primary colors, but they really should have went with the safe side and used something that clearly works because as it stands now he still doesn't have a skin better than his default skin (they were smart to give that a chroma).
