The Lore for McGrath, the Lone Gunslinger
LORE. (now i'll be honest, when it comes to the LORE or Backgrounds of Champions i could care less because personally for a game that is a Arena where people just fight each other i don't LORE is a necessary thing, now don't get me wrong i like the little bits of a Champions background but its not for me cause i don't see a reason for it in this genera of game)
Growing up in Noxus wasn't easy for man like McGrath when he was growing up. both his parents would neglect him & when it comes to making friends McGrath was not as sociable as most people. in his teens McGrath's father was hoping that he would join the Noxian Military to make an honest living so he can help his parents who were dirt poor, but McGrath had other plans. at the age of 19 McGrath became a well-known rookie in his training camp especially when it came to using weapons particularly firearms, while he showed great skill in using various firearms he preferred using an old revolver that use to belong to an old soldier of the military.
After completing the training course of the camp McGrath left not joining the military instead he left Noxus with the revolver he "took" from the camp, he went out into the world to do what he wants instead of doing what others had intended him to be. on his travels to make his own living he came across a town where some of the best gun-slingers took refuge in the moment he walked into town he challenged everyone there to gun fights & fist fights winning each & everyone...except for 1 match. an old man took on McGrath's challenge beating him & leaving McGrath speechless, the old man saw some real potential in this young man & decided to show him the ropes of what it means to be a true cowboy.
The next 6 years were grueling & unrelenting the old mans method of teaching was by far more regress & intense then what the camps in Noxus were, the old man taught McGrath everything from gun-slinging, to boxing & survival. in the end McGrath took what the old man gave & then some showing that the old mans hunch about the kid was right on the money "This runt just maybe the toughest cowboy to ever live, even out ranking me". after his training was complete the old man handed down his own revolver to McGrath which he noticed was of the same design of his own revolver, taking the old mans gun McGrath left & soon on became the greatest Bounty Hunter & Vigilante to ever roam Valoren.
On his travels through out Valoren McGrath reputation grew & was spread far & wide, while on his way to a town in the desert of Shurima McGrath & his Horse Dust were ambushed by some strange creatures that came out of nowhere erupting from the sand trying to take down both McGrath & Dust. it took at least an hour for McGrath to shot down all those creatures who tried to make a meal out of him & his horse, as the small critters started retreating Dust was bucking around widely & for good reason. while Dust was bucking a massive creature erupted from the ground bellow McGrath & Dust sending both of them flying in different direction, after McGrath hit the ground the creature started charging towards him screaming at the top of its lungs that's McGrath drew his revolvers & prepared for the fight of his life.
For half an hour McGrath & the massive creature were fighting with everything they got, while the creature was knocking around McGrath he managed to land powerful shot on the creatures more vulnerable spots but he knew that this wasn't gonna be enough to make this thing turn tail & run. as McGrath ready to end the fight the creature disappeared McGrath looked around trying to see where in this ocean of sand where that creature was, before he knew it the creature erupted out of the ground bellow him catching McGrath's let arm in its mouth. as the creature was clamping down on McGrath's arm he was yelling at the top of his lungs while shooting the creature on the head with his right revolver while shooting inside its mouth with his left one, the creature was screaming in pain & started violently shaking McGrath until its jaw finally chomped off McGrath's arm & tossing him across the desert floor. McGrath laid on the ground bleeding & shouting in pain while the creature was screaming in pain, after tossing McGrath the creature turned tailed & ran knowing that this was a prey not worth getting killed over while McGrath laid on the ground bleeding out & starting to doze off.
A week later McGrath woke up in a panic in a tent with what remained of his left arm all bandaged up then McGrath got up & walked out of the tent to short drop to his knees where a nomad came to him & picked up, McGrath wanted to know what happened so the nomad & his fellow kin told him that he has survived an attack from what they call the Desert Demon. they told him they fond Dust buried under some sand & soon heard gunshots, as the nomads diged Dust out of sand they rushed to where the sound was coming from where they saw McGrath fighting the Desert Demon & saw it run away after tossing him to the ground. for the next couple of days McGrath stayed with the nomads regaining his strength & imagining the day he finds that demon & killing & reclaiming the old mans gun back, fully rested & back to full health McGrath asked the nomads where he can find the Desert Demon the only thing the leader of the nomads said was "You don't find the demon, the demon will find you".
For months McGrath traveled the desert in search of the creature that took his arm & his mentors gun but with little to no successes, eventually McGrath all but gave up on trying to find the monster until he heared rumors of people seeing a creature that looked like the Desert Demon. rushing to where the people he talked said saw the creature both he & Dust raced to the Institute of War where this creature was said to be seen, when he got to the institute he barged right in & looked for the beast all over the place until he founded it eating something in a large room. "Now I found you" McGrath said as he & the creature stared each other in the eye, drawing his gun & started shooting the creature charged at McGrath in a bloodlust. as the 2 of them were fighting in the halls busting through walls catching some of the other Champions in the cross-fire eventually a couple of Summoners of the Institute stopped the 2 before they brought the entire building down on their heads, one of the Summoners demanded that McGrath explained why started attacking one of their Champions all he said was Mind your own business old man this thing & I have a score to settle & that it has something that belongs to me!" the Summoner restrained McGrath as he aimed his gun at the monster, then the Summoner explained why he cannot fight or kill the creature so McGrath said to make him 1 of their Champions so he & the monster can settle things.
At first the Summoners were hesitant to let this man into the League but Graves persuaded them to let these 2 settle their score while also bring up that this man could draw in larger crowds who watch the battles on the Rift. eventually the Summoners agreed to let McGrath be a Champion as long as both him & the creature who the told McGraths name was Rek'Sai that they are ONLY to fight on the Rift, McGrath agreed to the terms. so now because McGrath has no real affiliation to one nation he is a spare Champion to be used by nations who ask him to represent them in the League.
