Idea for automatic punishment system.

Before we start. Numbers are just examples. Consider the system tweaked over the years to get the right numbers.

Each report would get a weight, that changes depending on the circumstances, and the person who sends the report. This weight multiplies the report's value.

Modifiers (all of them works as multiplication)

Reporting frequency. Every time you report someone the weight of your future reports gets reduced. Any game when you report no one increases the weight. I would go with -90% to +1000% at first. Each report reduces by 1% (reporting 5 people in a game would mean 5% in just one game). Each game with no reports filled would add 5%. So those who spam that button would have little to no value, and those who use it only when it's truly justified would give a much larger impact.

Winning team modifier. Players of the winning team has their report increased value. I noticed, that if we stomp the enemy, then people are less raging, and report askings happen much less as well. +50%.

Premade reduction. Premades' report gets their value halved with only the strongest one counted as whole.

Example: You are a 2 premade. One of you is a report spammer with -83% at the point. The other barely reports with +620%. You two report the same inter, then the larger counts as whole, and the samller gets halved. In this case it would worth 16,2+10,170,5=6,285 report. If you are in winning team, then it would be 16,21,5+10,170,51,5=10,6275

The system wouldn't check how much the reports justified. If you reach a certain number you get punished. My first try would be 100 reports, and each game would reduce the number by 2. Even if you get reported.

A hard inter with ignoring the other modifiers would get punishment in 11 games. Get 11,5-2 report each game.

The implementation would be a sneaky one to avoid intentional abuse. Specifically the reporting frequency part. It would be hidden started 10 days before the real system implementation.

The point of the no checking is the fact, that people aren't report without a reason, and those who does would have their report worthless. Or at least much less valuable. If 90% of the people at a workplace say, that the janitor is bad, then the boss won't check on the janitor. He just kicks it, and gets a new one. Also if someone complains about everyone, then the boss will start to ignore it, but if the guy who never complains says something, then probably takes it more seriously.

What if someone gets reported by 9 people with +1000% weight? Should that guy punished based on one game? (125 report value)

Well beside the fact, that 1000% weight would require 200 games with no report, so you could assume, that those guys aren't spamming the report buttons. 9 people also means 2 whole team which rarely happens even now. If 2 team agrees that you deserve punishment, and all of them only say this when it's justified, then it is extremely likely to be justified. But as mentioned on start. Numbers might need to be changed.

Punishment would be a warning first with a probation, then it would turn into real ban with bigger probation. After 4. punishment the next ban would be permanent.

Example: 100 games probation all case.

  1. time: warning

  2. time: 1 day

  3. time: 2 week

  4. time: 4 week

  5. time: permanent.

  1. Decreasing/increasing report strength is a bad idea. All those reports could be justified, meanwhile another player could play with his 5 an premade for 20 games without reporting and then play solo for a few games and report everyone in sight.
  2. Premade reports should count as 1 report. Reports from the same player in several games should also count as 1 report.
  3. Regardless of the report number, a player may only be punished if he really did something worthy of punishment, like obvious inting, excessive flaming etc.

I feel like the current system already does everything you want your system to do.

  1. Report spamming won't achieve much. Not because reports lose weight, but simply because false reports do absolutely nothing and are discarded.
  2. Premades group reporting somebody does nothing. One report is enough to trigger the instant feedback system, multiple reports in the same game are treated as one.
  3. You can't intentionally abuse it. It's impossible to get somebody punished without them doing something that is considered punishable.

One thing that the current system isn't good with is inters and trolls. However, I'd argue that players are barely better in detecting those than the automated system. One look at the Player Behavior and the problem is obvious. Lost lane and die repeatedly to a lane bully? Clearly inting. Trying an unconventional build? Has to be a troll.

Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of giving higher weights to certain reports, but that's incompatible with the current report system. And replacing that system with one which doesn't even check if reports are justified is too high of a trade off.
