Pantheon Skin

I think Pantheon would look boss in a Knights Templar outfit. I can not draw well so I leave a few pictures I did not draw that inspired me. If you are an artist please drop your own pictures.

Since skins are often released in themed bundles I think that since Braum Leona Pantheon Poppy Taric
all hold shields maybe all 5 could get a Knights Templar themed skin possibly with matching emblems on the shield (although I only care about Pantheon).

I don't mean to rain on your parade, but the Knights Templar are a very old, very strange religious order of Christianity. They are sacred in many parts of the world and are associated with secrets and very uncomfortable and bloody periods of time. Many templars were burned at the stake after being tortured by King Phillip of France, and they played a major part in the Crusades (which, as you may know, was an incredibly violent religious war that ended up with many people dead because of their beliefs).

I get it, the Knights Templar are cool and stuff because they were in Assassin's Creed, but you need to know about where they come from and the actual nature of them, too. On top of this, having overtly religious themes in League wouldn't be very smart from a player perspective or a marketing perspective.

This statement could not be further from the truth.

Just one of hundreds of videos I have watched on the Knights Templar. Please do not assume I only know about them through Assassins Creed, I'm 30 years old and have been a history buff for most of my life.

Then you of all people should know why it's not a good idea.

I disagree completely. Have you ever read the lore in this game? Some champions have lore far more twisted than the Knights Templar.

"Sadistic and cunning, Thresh is a restless spirit who prides himself on tormenting mortals and breaking them with slow, excruciating inventiveness. His victims suffer far beyond the point of death, for Thresh wreaks agony upon their souls, imprisoning them in his lantern to torture for all eternity. " [zombie-brand-facepalm]

But the difference between champions and League and the Knights Templar is that champions aren't real

Yeah, exactly.

You're taking this too seriously. If they made a skinline it wouldn't look 100% like the templars.

  1. Pantheon's old lore had previously stated that he was of the tribe "Stanpar" (an anagram of "Spartan").

  2. Pantheon's dance is a reference to the dance from the "Jailhouse Rock" music video. A side-by-side comparison can be seen here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?annotation_id=annotation_204569&feature=iv&src_vid=E_YQtut2BGU&v=bah7dGi14ks

  3. Many of Pantheon's quotes reference the movie 300. Leonidas (c. 530-480 B.C.) was a king of the city-state of Sparta from about 490 B.C. until his death at the Battle of Thermopylae against the Persian army in 480 B.C. Although Leonidas lost the battle, his death at Thermopylae was seen as a heroic sacrifice because he sent most of his army away when he realized that the Persians had outmaneuvered him. Three hundred of his fellow Spartans stayed with him to fight and die. Almost everything that is known about Leonidas comes from the work of the Greek historian Herodotus (c. 484-c. 425 B.C.). 3a. Pantheon's taunt references a scene in which King Leonidas kicks a Persian messenger into a well. 3b. Pantheon's jokes are a reference to when King Leonidas asks his Spartan soldiers what their professions are. 3c. One of his quotes, "They will not enjoy this!" refers to when the Queen Gorgo kills Theron during the council meeting near the end of the movie.

  4. Classic Pantheon- His appearance is most likely inspired by Greek hoplites.

  5. Myrmidon Pantheon- It is a reference to Myrmidons, who were among the fiercest warriors in all of Greece, led by Achilles in Homer's Iliad.

  6. Pantheon's name is directly from the Greek word 'Πάνθεον', referring to the collection of gods in ancient Greek mythology.

Need i go on?

I don't care what Pantheon's lore is based on, the fact of the matter is that the Knights Templar brutally murdered many Jewish people based on their religious beliefs. Yes, Pantheon is based on sadistic Greek warriors, yes, he is a warrior himself, but basing a skin on the Knights Templar literally connect him to all of that violence. Myrmidons don't exist anymore.

But I'm done talking about it because Riot is smart and they won't make a Knights Templar skin so this is all moot. Even if you don't see a problem with it a lot of people would. You can't tell people what they can and can't be offended by, especially when it comes to religious-based genocide.

You are clearly misinformed about the history of the Knights Templar as you commonly refer to crusaders who were mostly comprised of convicted prisoners offered freedom to fight to retake the holy land (although at times they interacted with each other they are distinguished separate groups). It was not until 1119 AD that the Knights Templar was formed (after the holy lands were taken) to protect christian travelers from the Mediterranean to the holy land (because even though the city was captured it was still not a safe place). The Knights Templar were professional soldiers living as monks to protect people (they were required to be of noble birth of legitimate descent and already a knight). They based themselves in the Temple Mount believed too be the original Palace of Salomon. They were also believed to be essentially archeologists excavating ancient artifacts, relics, and treasure (including the Holy Grail). This was confirmed later upon the discovery of the dead sea scrolls (copper scroll) in 1952. They were a holy order and a military force sworn too poverty, chastity, obedience, and piety. They were also warriors among the most powerful ever seen (today we might think of them as elite special forces). The main controversy was that they did most of the archeology in secret and may have only been able to protect a small amount of pilgrims. Although much of what they did was in secret and still debated today your accusation of religious genocide is at an entirely different group know as the crusaders. It has been a pleasure teaching you about history, and I hope you take it upon yourself to do some research as you clearly have interest (4 responses thus far) and it being such an interesting topic.
