How are teams put together?

Okay,

Firstly welcome. I am proud to start my first of what I see will be a long line of posts to start off my relationship here with everyone and riot. I am a newer player that began on october 1st of this year and have quickly fell in love with the game. As I have friends who have played league for years, I have quickly sprung myself into the game practicing hours a day, watching top players, practicing mechanics, building knowledge through reading etc.. I had a mildly successful first 10 levels after I learned how to properly position myself among other basic necessaries. Now At lvl 18 I had a win ratio of approximately 80 wins to 50 losses. Now abruptly after this point, (I'm now 21) I started doing terrible. I was always regularly checking teams and statistics after games to understand or at least try to put in perspective what lvl and skill ranks the people were against me. After I hit around 18, I immediately started getting some experienced lvl 30's and other 20 something players. Now, I often see that same mix of lvl's except my wins has barely risen to 90 and my losses has risen quite a bit to 96. Why I am posting this is because almost every game I have, I am put with 1-2 champions that have either a lvl under 15 or they have under 20 wins even up to higher lvls in the twenties. These champions rarely have comparable opposites on the other team and usually make it extremely unbearable to win. I have played 20 games in the last 2 days and have had 1 go to finish while the other 20 were forfeits for or against my team. What caused the change from my late teens to early 20's that has put much more under skilled players in my games on my team or opponents? It's important to note that in my last two levels, I'm more likely to win when playing with a friend whom brings in lvl 30 competitors than if i try 5v5 solo que without a party. It's not as if he carries he has the same effect as any other average player. How can I work to get my win's back over 50% win rate where it was before I hit 20?

One last question, on the 12th, I went back home for the holidays as I am a college student and since then I have seen most of my losses. I read that the priority of matching with same skill level players drops as each solo que offer is terminated from someone else declining. Would this have an effect if I wasn't getting games as quickly on my first or second que game as when I am at my normal location? Also, could it be that due to my extreme success with one champion that I have stopped since the beginning of my losing streak that my elo was raised so much that I have since been put as the top player and just haven't been performing with other champions?

Best,

Yoshiiiiiiiiii

Matchmaking tries to place together players with similar experience (level and games played, MMR), but if there aren't many good matches at the time then it will have to slowly expand the search to include people not as suitable. It's the price you have to pay for not having 15 minute queues.

HOW DO I KEEP ENDING UP IN GAMES WITH PLAYERS WHOSE SKILL LEVEL DIFFERS GREATLY FROM MY OWN?

There are a few factors that can make a match feel more imbalanced than it actually is. A teammate may have just had a bad game and performed worse than they usually do. Alternatively, as we’ve seen in LCS, snowballing can still occur despite the two teams being very evenly matched. Snowballing can then lead to the very reasonable perception that a mismatch occurred. Finally, both the Dunning-Kruger and negativity bias also play a role here in shaping players’ impressions of their matchmaking experiences overall.

For the matchmaker itself, the conditions often cited for mismatch are low concurrent users (CCU) or having a very high MMR. But when we take a deeper look at this pool of games, the impact on the quality of matches ends up being very, very low. Instead, the matchmaker is much more likely to increase the queue time as can be seen in the longer queue times seen in the Challenger Tier.

That is not to say that our matchmaker is absolutely perfect. We are also constantly monitoring our matchmaker and making any necessary tweaks to help reduce the chance that players of vastly different skill levels are matched together.
