[Webtool] EYE-POPPING Item Set Editor

Hi all,

Since the release of the new client, I have missed the customization of sets. Since nature hates vacuum and probably also because I had a few hours free last week, I decided to put together a replacement.

It is a web tool that you can find there: http://lol.item-set.com

How it works

It requires no installation, because it does not do anything directly to your computer. To use it it’s simple: drag & drop your League of Legends/Config folder into the tool, and you can start customizing. You can also start fresh if you want, then ignore this previous step.

When done, you can download your modified sets, and simply replace the League of Legends/Config folder with the one you just downloaded.

A few more things

Obviously, this is a beta since I just released it, but I have tested in both Chrome, Firefox & Safari Mac to ensure 99% of normal human beings can use it. I will support other browsers but did not have them at hand: if you encounter any issue, shoot it and specify your OS & browser.

The tool is entirely client based, so once loaded there is 0 communication with the server: it should work super fast once ready.

You work is saved in your browser, so when you get back (on the same machine) to the site, it will open where you left off. If you want to clear it: clear your cache!

It will automatically update the data source every 6 hours, so when patch day comes you should see the new/updated items shortly (depends on Riot API of course)

** Will I get banned? Is this approved? **

I cannot imagine why you would be banned, since in the official FAQ about the new client , their is a part about item set which I will quote for you:

One feature that isn't being immediately brought over from the legacy client are item sets. However, your existing item sets will still continue to work and our third-party API will sitll allow you to download custom item sets from community developers for in-game use.

Here is my point of view on the matter:

  • If you use the new client, this is a workaround to manage your sets
  • The code I made is open source, it runs in your browser so it does nothing more or less than any website you can browse
  • You do not install anything. You copy & paste .json files which are not executable so risk is very easy to assess as: none
  • The legacy client will be gone at some point, and from my understanding they were quite clear that item sets would not be a part of the new client for some time at least, if ever again. They even made appeal to external tool like this one (again, see the FAQ).

Item set creators are not bannable so you're good to go on that front. Only thing that we don't allow is the usage of official logos in community projects like the one that snuck in at the top left ;) Oh and you should also add the following into the footer of your site:

I was not sure about the logo ^^, thought it was the Riot's one only. I will change it!

What you have in Chrome looks good to me, is nothing working? You should be able to create sets or drag & drop

Oh nvm, my mistake. For some reason I think a new item set was already created/open on my iPad so I got confused when I didn't see the right side panel on my PC. Looks like it's working as intended. Nice job dude.

I do not understand why some people complained about Riot allowing and encouraging the use of item sets creator programs because they've previously stated that third party programs are bannable.

It is because people would rather have Riot implement it into the new client? I don't see the problem with just downloading another program.

The third party program isnt directly affecting the game. It simply gives you a config to change your files.

Sorry about the super late response on this. Sometimes I pop into the forums and then get caught in work and forget to check back. However this is a solid question so I don't want to leave it unanswered...

We have policies about what is okay and not okay in third party projects. Each project that uses the Riot Games API is reviewed before receiving an API key. If you ever have a question about a third party application you can typically ask on our forums found on our developer site. Alternatively feel free to tweet me or @RiotGamesAPI.

If you'd like to check out our general policies, they're publicly published so that developers get an idea of what is and isn't okay. These are general guidelines and we always encourage developers to talk to us if they feel they have an exception or their project falls into a gray area.

Is Riot still going to rebuild Item Sets for the new client, or use this as an excuse not to?

Hey Cladrich, could you add a system so I can make 1 item set the same for multiple champions? (I like to list all my items for ADC in the Item Set, and if I could make 1 build and then copy/paste it into other builds that'd be cool.)

This is the good stuff. Great work!

I tried it and has a little problem - the right coloumn showing the different item blocks does not scroll, so if i have 4+ blocks i can' t see beyond the 4th. There is a workaround which is to zoom away so i can see the remaining blocks, however. This said, looks veeery good :O

Resizing your window should allow to fix that, but I have trouble reproducing, could you provide browser / OS & a way to reproduce the bug? You can post on https://github.com/Cadrach/lol_ise/issues if you want (easier to track issues)

having the same issue with chrome on Windows 7 just create multiple item blocks and you can't go down to look at them (I use 6 blocks for my poppy support set which is what I noticed it on)

I will take a better look at this, must have missed something when loading a set, it should trigger the scrollbar. In the meantime, you can resize your window to trigger the calculation of the scrollbar.

It looks really nice, and works so far, but I just have one question.

What does GP10 and MP5 mean? From what I have been able to figure out GP10 is gold items, but I would still like to know what it means.

Also you should add redemption into the active section.

EDIT: Also, this is also more or less how I picture the Item Set Editor to eventually look like in the new client. Very user-friendly.

This is great! Thank you. Item sets are the one thing that keeps me from using the new client all of the time.

Two feature suggestions: (1) hover over an icon to render the name and description (2) hover over the name of the item block to give the gold sum of the items within that block

It is from Riot, so translates only a small part of the interface, the items & the champs

Thanks for this! It has super annoying not having control wards in any of my item sets. One thing though. For whatever reason, when I replace the entire Config folder with the zip file's contents, my game doesn't load my custom item sets. I had to go to the original Config folder and replace the .json files with my downloaded ones for it to work. Is this how it's supposed to be done? The directions just say to replace the entire folder.

If you unzip it should apply correctly. What can happen though, is you have sets with other file names. The tool names the files with {champName}{index}.json, so if they have different names you will not replace your previous sets.

So if you want to really "clear" everything you have previously, you can delete Config/Champions & Config/Global folders and then unzip the sets from my tool.

Maybe I did not understand correctly your problem, please let me know. By the way, a friend of mine had 2 installs of LoL and he was modifying the wrong one so maybe you want to check this too.

Might not use this myself as I don't really use item sets, but it looks like a great tool for a workaround until Riot brings back item sets (think they said they were coming eventually) I really appreciate that you made it work without an install. Looks great. Keep up the good work!!

i believe in the last 'ask riot' they said it was 100% going to be a feature, but it's low on the list, after the client comes out of beta officially

I like it, it takes some of my worry about the new client away. One thing though, I dropped the folder in and it has my items sets from weeks ago. Some I have deleted since then, and many were completely changed. Is there a way to make it import my latest sets??

Check that you do not have a dual install of League of Legends. Also, to start fresh, before applying the .zip you can delete your Config/Global & Config/Champions folders.

Don't have a dual install. I tried again and most of the sets I updated the past few days are updated. One champion I rarely play is still not updated (I recreated a set with a new name). I was only worried that I had to work on 10 or so item sets, but 1 I can manage.

Also, you plan on implementing the builds from/into feature, or is it just a nightmare to code? Your site has some new search criteria that make it less necessary, but it's a nice feature.

Having a lot of fun with the web app. Some suggestions (I don't do web apps so i'm not sure how easy this would be) making the Champion selector be a drop down menu with a search function, treating Global Sets as their own drop down menu so you can select it and switch between them faster, and I couldn't tell but can we select multiple champions for a set? Or is it just limited to one right now?

I plan to add a filter when adding / listing champions.

I also will try to highlight global sets a bit better I think.

Multi champion sets maybe not, or quite later because I have to think about a way to work around the way riot store them ( they are stored as one file per champion from what I can see, which may be hard to translate back & forth)

I'm not well versed in your project or web development but why not use a set with an internal array of it's champions for specific sets? Then run it through a for loop that adds that set file to each champion when you go to download it? I don't know if that would work but it's an idea.

This would work perfectly when you are using the tool. However on first load I would not be able to build the sets this way since this information is not stored in the files made by the client.

I saw though that championify adds it's own data in the sets, and the client ignores it. I wanted to strictly follow Riot definition, but I could look at doing the same (would allow you to reload the sets from your client if I created them)

I will look at making something work in January for this, after from/into for items

This helps me so much! Thank you! I unfortunately didn't realise there was Item Sets (or how they could be of use) until the new Client which supports previously created but couldn't create new ones or edit old existing item sets. Love this tool
