Item Set Editor

Hi all,

Since the release of the new client, I have missed the customization of sets. Since nature hates vacuum and probably also because I had a few hours free last week, I decided to put together a replacement.

It is a web tool that you can find there: http://lol.item-set.com

How it works

It requires no installation, because it does not do anything directly to your computer. To use it it’s simple: drag & drop your League of Legends/Config folder into the tool, and you can start customizing. You can also start fresh if you want, then ignore this previous step.

When done, you can download your modified sets, and simply replace the League of Legends/Config folder with the one you just downloaded.

A few more things

Obviously, this is a beta since I just released it, but I have tested in both Chrome, Firefox & Safari Mac to ensure 99% of normal human beings can use it. I will support other browsers but did not have them at hand: if you encounter any issue, shoot it and specify your OS & browser.

The tool is entirely client based, so once loaded there is 0 communication with the server: it should work super fast once ready.

You work is saved in your browser, so when you get back (on the same machine) to the site, it will open where you left off. If you want to clear it: clear your cache!

It will automatically update the data source every 6 hours, so when patch day comes you should see the new/updated items shortly (depends on Riot API of course)

** Will I get banned? Is this approved? **

I cannot imagine why you would be banned, since in the official FAQ about the new client , their is a part about item set which I will quote for you:

One feature that isn't being immediately brought over from the legacy client are item sets. However, your existing item sets will still continue to work and our third-party API will sitll allow you to download custom item sets from community developers for in-game use.

Here is my point of view on the matter:

  • If you use the new client, this is a workaround to manage your sets
  • The code I made is open source, it runs in your browser so it does nothing more or less than any website you can browse
  • You do not install anything. You copy & paste .json files which are not executable so risk is very easy to assess as: none
  • The legacy client will be gone at some point, and from my understanding they were quite clear that item sets would not be a part of the new client for some time at least, if ever again. They even made appeal to external tool like this one (again, see the FAQ).

Tool hasn't been working for about 2 weeks now. All images are gone from the tool and the bug was reported 12 days ago. So far no response from the creator. Perhaps he will see this as I really miss this tool. :)

Dear Cadrach, I can't believe this post does not have any comment yet. I already tried this out and it's absolutely lovely.

One slight problem, when I copy/paste the zip-extracted Config folder to the default location, it does not overwrite the previously made custom sets. This leads to multiple same item sets in-game. The reason, I figured, is because while this web tool creates custom item set files as "champion name #.json", original custom item set files are saved as "RIOT_ItemSet_#.json" Perhaps if you change the algorithm of the web tool to create the files with RIOT names instead, it can prevent people from having bunch of repeated item sets.

Getting back to the original point, this web tool is pretty awesome and I mean it! Already bookmarked the link.

Hurry up and hop on, custom item builders; until RIOT release an official in-game item builder this is the best alternative currently available on the market.

Thanks a lot, Yeah, when I launched it I tried to keep in mind that it might have a lot of use by a lot of people. It is really hard to get visibility on the board I think, and I am a bit disappointed currently ^_^

Regarding your issue, you have it exactly. To really apply the exact same setup, you can simply delete your Config/Champions & Config/Global folders before applying the .zip, this will ensure that no left over remain (I am using the same naming convention as championify currently)

I do agree about the visibility issue. I was genuinely surprised to find that there wasn't any comment until now. Only if more people could see this thread.... :'(

FYI, I myself stumbled upon this thread via google search, not through forums. I searched "custom item builder lol", but then all results were RIOT's official item builder release which was YEARS ago, so I filtered the results to past 1 month, and this popped up (thank you google filter!)

Cheer up, my friend! I really appreciate what you've done, and I'm sure millions of people will say the same. What you did means a lot to us custom item builders. I'm not sure if it will be much of a help, but I will share this thread to the Korean LoL community that I'm in.

Yes, I think I will keep posting regularly a new post, I guess it might just take a red post to get enough visibility.

Thanks for sharing it, the items & champs names will display in local languages so it should work for Koreans too.

Thank you sooooo much! It worked! Finally I have a new set for my new champions! I use Macbook Pro, so the upload didn't really work. But I just set up new one and download as zip, unzipped it and paste the certain champion's file inside LOL config, then it shows in game! Genius!

I can't find the place where you have the config folder for LoL. I have it on a seperate Harddrive than my Windows System, so would like some help as I can't find it in that folder as you claim

Is tthere any way to export my current item sets from old client to the new client

I have the .LOLITEMSET export function on in he old client, i just cannot figure out how to export that into a JSON file to use the site

Don't worry great author of http://lol.item-set.com ! My google search on item set editor bring up this post. Agree it's safe and useful tool for the moment!
