Name: Keira Title: The Heir of the Isles Race: Human / Undead **Gender: **Female Birthplace: Bilgewater **Allegiance: **Shadow Isles **Age: **19 **Height: **5’5’’ **Weight: **130 lbs **Role: **
Appearance:
Keira is a 19 year old woman. She wears a metal face visor which is reminiscent of a knight’s visor. She also wears a rather plain crown on her head which is faded and dirty. Most of the gems in the crown have fallen out or cracked. She has long flowing hair which seems to sway in an ethereal breeze. Her eyes are are a light blue.
Her clothing is a mix of tattered noble, magi, and naval clothing. Her arm left and right arms are covered in metal arm guards. She wears a tattered noble’s dress and underneath that is a undershirt generally worn by pirates or naval folk. She doesn’t wear any shoes. A ghostly aura seems to follow her as a few of the spirits she has taken within her body fly around her every now and then.
She carries with her a large scythe roughly a head longer than she is. It’s fairly thick while still allowing her to grasp around most of it with her hands. The shaft is made out of a mix of metal and gnarled wood with several glyphs etched into it. The blade is a dark metal a few shades darker than iron. The glyphs are also etched into it’s edge. It extends about one head longer than her body width wise. It also has a much smaller blade sticking out of the other side only going out a few inches.
Lore:
Ever since I was a child I could hear their voices. Tiny whispers from people that were never there. They would always call to me from across the sea. At first I thought I was going insane. I told my parents of their cries and they merely dismissed them as the ideal imagination of a child. I believed them of course, they were my parents. Even if they weren’t really ‘my parents’. Apparently, they had found me floating in the ocean crying for my dear life. My mother fell in love with me at first sight. At least that’s how they always tell that tale. I was happy when I was with them.
Then the first harrowing came to the island. A thick mist which stole away the people of my town as if they were apples on a tree. However, even through the screams of fear and sounds of destruction, the whispers only grew louder. Calm and patient, they called me towards the mist. I had almost fallen into the mist had my parents not thrown me aside. They were taken that day by a ghostly figure. Before I could dare approach the mist again; It had left. Thus the first harrowing passed and many souls were taken but I was left alone in that town.
Eventually, I found work in the harbor a few weeks after the Harrowing. They needed help badly, and they would not refuse someone willing to go to sea.
It was a harsh time on that boat. The captain was harsh and refused anything less than our best. The voices spoke of taking the ship and sailing west. They claimed it would lead me to an inheritance. Out of pure curiosity I asked the captain what laid to the south of the island. He merely said “nothing but ghosts and shadows.”
After a while, I got used to living aboard the ship. The pay was decent and the captain let me stab anyone that tried anything shifty with me. Overall, I couldn’t complain. The voices were quieter in those days. They still spoke in hushed voices but were drowned out by the cheers of the crew. Alcohol, was apparently very effective at making you hard of hearing.
Then the second harrowing came. I wasn’t there at the time. The ship had been moored at the east coast of Valoran when it had struck. However, that didn’t stop the rumors from whispering to me. Tales of an rusted armor fighting in the middle of the mist. The voices were loud that day. As if they were cheering for their victory.
A while past and the third harrowing came. The Reaping of Smuggler’s Cove is what I believe they called it. You only hear rumors about the massacred town. How the very wood making up the houses were drenched with gore. I was close to being there for the Harrowing however, our ship had been called away for an emergency transport. During that time the whispers spoke louder to me. They wanted me to ditch my ship when we were called away. They knew where it would hit.
Finally, the fourth harrowing came.
Though most stories will tell you that the Battle of Serpent was won due to the Blue Flame leviathan. That the mighty beast that was goaded by a serpent charmer sacrificed it’s life in order to stop the Harrowing. It was quite different for me. On that day, the ship was out sailing, hoping for some easy money either in fish or in theft. At first it started out like any other fog. Slow and patient we drifted into certain death. It’s funny, for the first time the voices were silent. I hadn’t noticed until it was too late.
When the black mist finally arrived, the crew in the process of hauling a rather large fish from one of the nets. Had they been more aware, they might have survived. The undead mist rolled through the ship. Man after man falling to curse or blade. The whispers comforted me as I watched my friends slaughtered and stolen. Then, I passed out.
When I awoke, I was on the shores of an island I’d never seen. Twisted and gnarled trees cloaked the path in front of me. Shipwrecks of all shapes decorated the coast. I wasn’t oddly enough. The island felt familiar and the whispers sung lullabies. For the longest time I merely watched the waves flow.
The whispers spoke to me of home and treasure. Of inheritance and rightful places of the living and dead. They convinced me, that I would find help within the forest. Thus, I set out.
Life within the forest was strange. Creatures of all sorts gathered and wandered within the shadows. I saw war and death standing upon a hill arguing. They stopped and gazed at me. For the briefest of moments, I thought I could see a smile upon the horse. Then I continued. Neither figure trying to stop me. I followed the whispers directions hoping they would lead me somewhere safe.
I was lead to what looked like a large circle with several indecipherable symbols written all across it. Each glowed with a erie life. Skeletons dressed in tattered robes sprinkled across the area. The voices wanted me to step inside. However, I needed no convincing. For some unknown reason, I knew this was right. The moment I did, all made sense.
Countless lives played out in my head. Echoes of men and women swallowed by death itself. A wife taken from husband and locked away. Two parents protecting their child. A man afraid of life committing to death. So many lives and souls poured into me. Humans, yordles, beasts and all others consumed and brought to me. Then the last memories played out for me.
A man filled with grief over the death of his pregnant wife. A ritual to undo the bindings of death. Lives sacrificed for a briefest glimpse at paradise. A man standing over the undead creature that was his love. The baby whom was born in death and brought to the living, cried in innocence. A man filled with grief over the death of his kingdom. Anger causing him to throw himself and the child to the sea.
I couldn’t help but begin to laugh. To see all of the lives of those that had once served the ruin king. To know they still follow his blood line. I sought a new life. It was granted. Now, I seek to rule over my kingdom. I am Keira Stamen, daughter of the ruined king, and heir to the Shadow Isles.
