Rema - The Twilight Dreamer
#Rema - The Twilight Dreamer
##Concept Rema is a hybrid controller mage that switches between Enchanters and Catchers by waking up or falling asleep. When she is awake she utilizes her powers to protect her allies from oncoming danger. When she falls asleep her mental powers are unleashed creating powerful plays. She captures people’s bad dreams inside her dream catchers and utilizes them as traps for her enemies. Along the way, she collects dream wisps to make her team’s dreams come true. Locking down the enemy while maintaining her team.
##Appearance Rema has white fur with unusually large ears for a yordle. When she is awake both of her ears stick straight up and when she falls asleep her ears flop down hanging off the sides of her head. She has short turquoise hair which tends to constantly have the case of bed head. Traveling across Runeterra she wears a large cloak that drags behind her. When Rema is awake the cloak is a plain dark blue. When she falls asleep the cloak creates a dark blue aura emanating luminescent feathers off of it. Under her cloak, she wears a grey leather buttoned up shirt with blue pants and brown boots.
##Short Lore It wasn’t that she is lazy or not as motivated as her brothers or sisters, but rather she enjoyed dreaming. All she wanted to do was be like the iconic yordles she grew up hearing about. Unfortunately, her fellow brothers and sisters mistook her personality as being lazy. Because of this, they frequently tried to bully her for “slacking off,” but Rema would fall asleep listening to their pettiness. Refusing to let her sleep define her, she settled out to claim her dreams. Starting from training for the Megling Commandos to studying at the Yordle School in Piltover, but no matter where she went her habit of falling asleep would lead her to failure. In an attempt to find a brighter future she rested her head below the stars. Just then a mysterious swan appeared in her dreams. It revealed to Rema visions of past ghosts. The swan saw Rema as a friend and chose her as the owner of the Mantle of Dreams. Rema still does not quite understand the meaning behind the mantle. So she travels throughout Runeterra in search for the reminisce her predecessors left behind. Leaving behind a wake of good dreams along the way.
##Long Lore #Dreamers Left Behind
It wasn’t that she is not motivated, but rather she had trouble staying awake. Rema loved her fellow brothers and sisters but they mistook her weariness as being lazy. Because of this, they frequently tried to bully her for “slacking off” but she often fell asleep listening to their pettiness. Just like every other yordle, Rema wanted to be just like the iconic yordles she had heard about. From the heroic scout of Bandle City to the genius inventor of Piltover, she wanted to be just like them. It was this dream that driven Rema to work as hard as she could no matter where she went. Training for the Megling Commandos was challenging because whenever Rema she would fall over and nap during drills. To avoid this Rema acquired a habit of sleepwalking by being conscious of herself dreaming and using them to control her body. Her fellow recruits would find themselves in shock whenever Rema’s ears flop down while she performed her drills. Rema proud of her achievement cheered “I can do this in my sleep!” Unfortunately, the Megling Commandos didn’t appreciate a trooper who would sleep on the job, so they didn’t let her in. Losing her chances to join Bandle City’s special forces, she felt very disappointed. But after a refreshing nap, she lifted her head high and ran to the next possible opportunity. She studied vigorously and got into the Yordle Academy in Piltover. Excited to invent with her greatest hero Heimerdinger, she slept through her classes daydreaming about it. The Yordle Academy upset with her “laziness,” sent her back home saying she was not qualified to study there.
With Rema’s hopes decimated, she left Piltover to wander Runeterra aimlessly. No clue on what to do next, she stopped by the edge of a pond to look at her reflection. “Maybe what they say is true,” her ears hanging heavily. “I can’t do anything right,” Rema swiped her reflection away and flopped down on the soft bed of grass below the starlit sky. Beginning to believe what everyone else was saying, a bright luminescence shimmered above the water. Rema’s ears perked straight up. She rubbed her eyes as blue radiance nearly blinded her. A large brilliant bird looked down at her with its long neck. Rema’s mouth fell agape as she gazed in awe at the creature’s beauty. The feathered guardian opened its wings and gave out a loud cry. Rema covered her face for the creature’s wing beats nearly blew her away. As the bright swan faded into the stars, a wisp of feathers gracefully fell into the palm of Rema’s hand. She stared deeply into the feather’s glow and watched as the world around her begin to change.
It was cold, very cold. “What just happened?” Rema’s call was silenced by the harsh winds of the storm. The snow plucked the feather from Rema’s hands, “No, wait!” Rema chased the feather. Eventually, it disappeared into the darkness. She shivered as frostbite pricked the tips of her ears. In the distance, a warm light flickered barely cutting through the blizzard. Holding her ears against her chest, she walked quickly to take shelter. As she traveled she couldn't help but feel she was being watched. “Hello?” She looked around her only to find the blizzard of snow. When Rema reached the source of light she found a cave with painted figures on the walls that sheltered two very peculiar looking yordles with long tails and sharp teeth. Rema did not understand the language they spoke but she could tell they were sad; The little one wept in its sleep. The older, shaggier looking one covered up the little one with what looked to be a blanket. It turned around and looked straight at Rema, who walked in slowly through the cavern’s entrance. Its big eyes didn’t seem to notice her as it hung a well-crafted charm above the doorway. The charm was round with feathers hanging from it. Taking a closer look Rema could see strings connected to one another like a web holding the craftsmanship together. After a while, the charm’s web along with its feathers began to glow and the little one slept more peacefully with the bad visions put to rest. Rema smiled looking down at the child who snuggled happily beside the fire. Suddenly Rema’s ears perked up when she sensed the shaggier one looking at her again.
“Shubbanuffa,” it snarled as it whacked Rema’s head with a large stick. Everything went black after that.
In the darkness of her mind, the feather returned and landed on the tip of Rema’s nose. A deep echo laughed just before the feather wisped away. When Rema had awoken from her slumber a blazing sun greeted her. She groaned standing up and had to knock sand out of her ears.
“Was not expecting that,” she complained rubbing the bump on her head. Rema peered out into the distance spotting a large structure shining beneath the desert sun. She spotted two yordles being chased into the building followed by a group of three shuriman warriors. Rema walked past the warriors but they didn’t seem to notice her. Strolling curiously around the building Rema found the two refugees hiding in a room. One of them wore a large cloak while the other appeared to have a fancier attire. Taking a closer look the hooded yordle blew a handful of dust into the eyes of her friend making him cry.
“I’m sorry young prince,” she said. “This is the end of the road, but not for you.” The prince shed tears a little while longer before falling unconscious. Explosions roared outside the room and Rema listened in horror to the screams the warriors made. Then the hooded figure continued, “You will find one like me again, one day, after eternity.” She kissed the prince's head and wrapped him around in bandages with the strands of the cloak she wore. With full conviction, she sealed the mysterious prince in the tomb behind her before turning around to spot Rema. Silence fell amongst the tomb as one of the warriors found them. The face of the warrior was coated in shadows. A loud battle cry broke the silence and the warrior charged after the shrouded yordle. Rema being caught in the middle of it all flinched
When she opened her eyes Rema returned to the pond. She sat up finding the mysterious swan staring down at her. “What are you?” she asked the swan. The swan leaned her head down to Rema’s level. Its feathers appeared so soft Rema had to touch it. When her palm met the swan’s gentle head, a bright light gleamed before Rema’s eyes. The body of the swan morphed into a beautiful cloak. It wrapped itself around Rema’s shoulders, in spite of it being big on her, something about wearing it felt familiar. Just then a deep echo whispered into Rema’s ears.
“All alone,” Rema turned around to find a monstrous shadow hurling straight towards her. She was stunned with fear as it lunged its blades towards her neck. The Mantle of Dreams reacting quickly engulfed Rema’s body and she woke up. The clear blue sky reflected off the quiet pond. Birds whistled their pleasant tunes just as a bundle of Rema’s hair fluffed itself with bed head.
“Was it all a dream?” She asked looking around. The mysterious cloth made her jump as it gently curled up onto her neck. “No, it wasn’t.” She turned around to where the shadow appeared. Nothing was there but a dream catcher cut in half. With only pieces of the puzzle, Rema understood the secret behind the Mantle of Dreams was lost long ago. She travels across Runeterra in search of answers. While she unravels the truth, the silhouette of that shadow lurked in the back of her mind. It still whispers in her dreams till this day.
“Darkness...”

##Designer's Discussion and Final Thoughts Hello, thank you very much for going over my Champion Concept. I've learned a lot trying to breathe life into a champion in my head. It was really fun researching folklores such as The Sandman, Dream Catchers and Morpheus. I also added some psychology jokes into this character by naming her Rema or REM (Rapid Eye Movement) which normally happens when you're dreaming. Creating this champion was fun as much as it was difficult. I found it extremely hard trying to balance this kit, since it consists of two forms similar to that of Rek'sai, Jayce, and Nidalee. Furthermore, I had trouble ethically because this character exhibits features that resemble a mental disability known as narcolepsy. I had to consider whether my lore sounded insulting, wrong or offensive to the population with narcolepsy. After careful thought, I ended up going through with it the best I could to not offend anyone and if I did offend someone, please forgive me that wasn't my intention. Finally, I'll close off with the final product of Rema, The Twilight Dreamer. I had a lot of fun with my first champion concept and I'm ready for any feedback. I'm sure this champion could use some improvement and touching up, so please put your questions and critiques in the comments below. Thank you all again and have a nice day.
