In almost every MMO RPG the main feature of mages are elements but in most MMOs elements do not interact with each other and the RPG part gets lost a little. So I want to give mages what I feel like is missing in most MMO RPGs.
As I said in the last post, magic users are close to my heart. So I wanna do them justice but if you feel something could be done better comment below! 😊
First I'll show you elemental rules I have come up with and then we will take a look on class designs, again 5 points in 1 tree.
DISCLAIMER: All of these ideas are work in progress and mostly utility spells are missing. Names of the spells aren't final either.
Also I am sorry if there are mistakes in this post. I had to rewrite everything from my half-assed notes.

Elemental rules:
Effects of magic: Light – Illumination - deals bonus light damage, can be consumed only with light consuming/procing weapon or for mages with spell Fire – spells have chance to set target ablaze, crits always set target ablaze Water – spell have chance to stack soak up to 4 times (ablaze will remove 1 stack of this effect). Soaked targets take less Fire dmg. Frost – spells have chance to stack chill up to 4 times. If target is soaked all of the stacks are converted into chill. Chill tagets are slowed by 10%, 20%, 40% and 60%. Earth – maybe will deal physical dmg Wind – gets empowered by other elements (e.g. Nature-spreads heal hots, Fire-sets targets ablaze, Frost-stacks chill) Electric – crits stun target (5-10s CD) or deal bonus things Nature – bonus effects when in nature or soaked or near light Void – cant be resisted Blood – cannot steal HP from creatures not made out of blood
Creatures - Resistances: Arcane – Fire, Water, Electric, Nature, Frost, Earth, Wind, Arcane, Light (and Shadow?) = small resistances Fire – Nature, Frost, Fire Water – Fire, Frost, Water Electric – Wind, Electric Nature – Water, Earth, Nature Frost – Water, Frost Earth – Electric, Fire, Wind, Earth Wind – Electric, Fire, Wind Void – to magic that hits it last Shadow – Wind, Shadow Light – Shadow, Light Unholy – Nature, Unholy
Spells - Bonus DMG/INTERACTIONS: Arcane – stacks bonus stats (e,g,: HP, DMG) on arcane creatures Fire – Nature, Frost, Unholy Water – Fire, when Earth creatures are soaked for more then 3 minutes corrosive debuff is applied (reduces armor, resists), soak buffs Nature spells/creatures Electric – chance to set ablaze Nature, spreads to nearby Soaked/Water targets and crits by how much Soaked they are Nature – bonus effects when target is Soaked or near Light or in nature Frost – Water, bonus dmg to Nature when over 3 stacks of chill, converts Soak into Chill Earth – bonus dmg to Frozen target Wind – spreads fire and ablaze to other targets, chance to dry Soak Void – Light Light – Shadow, deal bonus DMG (5x5% of dmg dealt) to Frozen target Unholy – Nature
As a mage you also learn basic spells every mage should know (e.g. Apprentice/Adept/Expert Armor - gives you bonus armor and resist to every magic)

(Light Trinity)
Light Bolt – 1,5s cast
Deals Light dmg and applies Illumination.
Prismatic bolt – insta cast Deals Light dmg and consumes illumination.
Light Armor – 1,5s cast Increases your armor and gives you traits of Light creature. You take reduced damage from Light and Shadow sources, but take more damage from Void.
Light Trinity – insta cast, 10s CD This spell circles through 3 stages Light Blast -> Light Orb -> Light Laser Light blast Deals light damage and applies dot base on dmg done for 12 sec if target has illumination on them. DMG from this dot applies Illumination too. When Light Blast consumes Illumination, Light blast becomes Light Orb. Light orb Sends out orb in targeted direction and deals dmg, then pulls it back and deals damage again. When Light orb consumes Illumination, Light orb applies 50% damage increase for your Lucent singularity and Light bolt for 6s, stacks up to 2 times. If you cast Lucent singularity while Light Orb is spawned, Lucent singularity destroys the Orb and does Lucent singularity in area where orb is. If Light Orb returns to you, Light orb becomes Light Laser. Light laser Deals damage and consumes all Illuminations, deals 100% more damage per Illumination consumed. When Light Laser consumes 2 Illuminations, Light laser becomes Light Blast again.
Lucent Singularity – 2s cast At the start of cast light orb appears in the targeted location then explodes at the end of cast and deals damage.
Lucent Nova – insta cast, 30s CD Snares everyone.
Ray of light – insta cast, 1,5min CD All people in beam will be damaged every 0,5s over 6s.
Blinding beam – 1s cast Infront cone that blinds everyone facing it.
Prismatic shield – 1s cast, 25s CD Absorbs damage and has same traits as Light creature.
Last spark – insta cast, 30s CD Puts dot on target for 12s that consumes every illumination.
Prismatic skin – insta cast, 1,5 min CD Reflects all damage back to attacker. Only castable if you have Light Armor on.
Lights Dispersion – insta cast, 15s CD Transforms into ball of light and dashes in moving direction, all enemies hit by Lights dispersion will take Light dmg.
Talents: ??? - When you have Light Armor on, Light Trinity cooldown is reduced by 1s for every Illumination consumed (this does not work if illumination is consumed by Light Trinity). ??? - Illumination can now stack up to 2 times. Enlightment - Your spells now give you enlightenment. Enlightenment stacks infinitly and half of it is always consumed for Light Trinity and Ray of light and gives you dmg increase for 8s by how much you consumed. ??? - Consumed illumination will give you 10 enlightenment.

Shadow Bolt – 2s cast Deals shadow damage
Enveloping Shadows – channeling Deals damage to all target that were hit in last 5s by your shadow spells.
Shadow Armor – 1,5s cast Increases your armor and gives you traits of Light creature. You take reduced dmg from Wind and Shadow and bonus dmg from Light.
Shadow Blast – insta cast, 12s CD Applies mark that deals dmg at the end of duration from XX% dmg done over 6s.
Shadow Nova – insta cat, 18s CD Spawns pool under you that gives you bonus shadow dmg for next 5 spells. Also every spell casted while in pool generates darkness but if not consumed under 5s everyone in circle will suffer shadow dmg and will be feared for 5s.
Dusk till Dawn – 2,5s cast "You'll never be alone I'll be with you from..." Consumes half of the darkness and deal big shadow dmg.
Orb of darkness – 2s cast At the start of cast dark orb appears in the targeted location then explodes at the end of cast and deals damage.
Duskbringer – insta cast, 18s CD Leave dusk trail and fears everyone in its path for 5s.
Shadow Shield – 1s cast, 25s CD Absorbs damage and has same traits as Shadow creature.
Shadow Dash – insta cast, 10s CD Consumes 100 darkness and dashes in moving direction. If you dash through shadow pool all of them will be consumed and give you darkness.
Call of the Dusk – 2s cast Calls all dusk trails to you, but consumes 100 darkness.
Lurking shadow – insta cast Deals big shadow damage after 15s.
Shadowform – insta cast Consumes 1000 darkness. You can now cast without side effects when moving for 1 minute.
Talents: Handy Shadow Gift – You can cast 2 spells at the same time thanks to new pair of shadow hands. These hands can cast without movement side effects. Darkness – Your spells generate darkness. Increases your shadow dmg done by how much darkness you have.

Combination of Light and Shadow (4 points in Light tree, 4 points in Shadow tree). Gameplay revolves around not staying in Light faze or Shadow faze for too long or you will be punished.

Nature Bolt – 1,5s cast Deals nature dmg. Chance to snare target when in Nature. When target is Soaked and near Light applies Blooming flower.
Toxic bolt – insta cast Applies poison to target for 6s.
Nature Armor – 1,5s cast Increases your armor and gives you traits of Nature creature. You take reduced damage from Nature, Water and Earth sources, but take more damage from Fire and Unholy. Also, if you are near Light and Soaked you consume Soak stack and gets healed. In nature your armor gets spiky, dealing dmg to enemy attackers and have chance to get poisoned.
Nature Blast – insta cast, 8s CD Makes all blooming flowers bloom and transforms them into leeching horrors. Leeching horrors deal dmg to target overtime. Leeching horrors also deal dmg at the end of their duration (100% of leeched dmg). In nature leeching horrors will deal more dmg. If exposed to light and target is soaked it will leech 2x faster.
Pollen Nova – insta cast, 30s CD Applies blooming flower to everyone. If targets are soaked applies leeching horrors instead. In nature pollen nova creates smokescreen that will stun targets for 1s (this has cd 5s), when in smokescreen its harder to see.
Triggerbloom – 1s cast Puts seed on the ground or wall, that will bloom after 6s, up to 3 times. If enemy steps on it or kills it before it blooms for the first time, seed will be destroyed. If seed blooms, whoever steps on it, gets up to 3 stacks of blooming flowers. If triggerbloom is Soaked it will bloom 2s faster but consumes one soak per bloom and when exposed to light, bloom time is reducd by another 2s. When you use nature nova near Triggerbloom, it will cast nature nova too and do chain reaction to other triggerblooms and consume 1 bloom. You can have up to 3 triggerblooms active at the time. In nature triggerbloom is instacast.
Cephalotus Plant First cast: setups Cephalotus over 1,5s, in nature it has no cast time but it grows over 1,5s. Second cast: If you are connected to the Cephalotus with vine lash, you will be pulled to the seed location. (Maybe it will pull everyone affected with vine lash)
Nature Shield – 1s cast, 25s CD Absorbs damage and has same traits as Nature creature. Soak repair this shield but soak cannot be applied to you when this shield is active. In nature this shield is stronger. When near Light your shield will be consumed over time and heal you.
Instabloom – insta cast, 10,s CD Makes your next triggerbloom bloom 1 time instantly. In nature 2 blooms.
Vine Lash – insta cast, 20s CD Snare targets infront of you for 6s, or connects you to Cephalotus plant, this effect lasts for 2 min. Wet vines can lead electricity.
Blooming Flower – passive Deals dmg at the end of the duration. If exposed to light and target is soaked it will bloom 2x faster.
Talents: ??? – nature bolts have chance to apply blooming flower on their own ??? – toxic bolts poison stack 3 times

Water bolt – 2s cast Deal water damage and pushes back a little.
Hydro bolt – insta cast Deals water damage.
Water Blast – insta cast, 12s CD Deals dmg to every target with wetness in range. Damage is increased by every stack of wetness. When you hold this ability wetness can stack above 4 stacks on all affected targets.
Water Nova – insta cast, 30sec Deals water damage pushes every back.
Water Armor – 1,5s cast Increases your armor and gives you traits of Water creature. You take reduced damage from Water, Fire sources but more from Frost and Lightning will always crit on you.
Pulsing waters – channel Creates circle where waters pulse from outside in. Water pulses push targets towards the inside of circle and deal dmg.
Aqua Shield – 1s cast, 25s CD Absorbs damage and has same traits as Water creature.
Water Pulse – insta cast, 12s CD Deals water dmg and pushes everyone back. (like Atlantean Syndra W)
Humidity – insta cast 1,5 min CD Transform yours hydro bolt into hydropump and water bolt always applies Soak stack.
Water Orb – insta cast 1 min CD Deals water dmg around the sphere applying wettness.
Tor%%%% – insta cast, 15s CD Dashes in moving direction.
Talents: Puddles – your water spells have chance to spawn pool under the target. From puddles you can summon bonus orbs, water novas and hydro bolt. ??? – every third hydro bolt deals bonus damage and stacks soak

Frost Bolt – 2s cast Deals frost damage and stacks chill.
Ice shard – insta cast Deals frost damage and does not stack chill, does triple dmg to frozen target.
Frost Armor – 1,5s cast Increases your armor and gives you traits of Frost creature. Reduced dmg from Frost%%%% Water spells. More dmg from Fire spells.
Frost blast – insta cast, 12s CD Freezes enemies if they have 4 chill stacks or add 2 chill stacks.
Frost Nova – insta cast, 30s CD Snares every enemy, enemies can be instantly frozen.
Glacial storm – channel Deals frost damage in circle.
Flash Frost – insta cast 1 min CD Frost orb that periodicly deals frost dmg around and can be recasted to stun enemies.
Frost shield – 1s cast, 25s CD Absorbs damage and has same traits as Frost creature.
Ice block – instacast, 4min CD Makes you invulnerable for 12s.
Heart of cold – insta cast, 5min CD Resets cooldowns of your Frost nova, Ice block, Frost Shield and Flash frost.
Glacial cone – insta cast, 12s CD Deals frost dmg and applies 3 stacks of chill.
Talents: ??? – frost bolt has 25% chance to empower your next freeze blast to deal 50% bonus dmg apply Winter’s Hunger to target. Winter’s Hunger causes target to take damage as if it were frozen. ??? – Frost Bolt has 15% chance and flash frost damage has a 10% to grant charge of Frozen Core. Frozen core causes your next Ice shard to deal damage as if the target were frozen. Maximum 2 charges. ??? – each time glacial storm deals dmg flash frost cd is reduced by 0,5s Ice Storm – Your frostbolt and frost blast have 50% to give you an ice shard stack. You can store up to 5 ice shards and any excess ice shard will be automatically launched.

Lightning bolt – 2s cast Deals eletrical dmg around you and generates volts (more volts you have more generates)
Lighning overload – channeled Deals eletrical dmg and generates volts
Lightning nova – insta cast, 30s CD Deals eletrical dmg and generates volts
Lightning blast – insta cast, 10 sec CD Deals lightning dmg and consumes volts (more you have the more it consumes 50-10 5000-1000), soaked target will be stunned or interupted by how much Volts were consumed (above 100=interupt, above 250-1000=1-5s stun)
Lightning Armor – 1,5s cast Increases your armor and gives you traits of Lightning creature. Reduced dmg from lightning and wind. If you are soaked you get perodicly stunned or damaged.
Lightning whip – insta cast, 15s CD Directs lightning overload into target (in one hand whip other will be casting overload) and lock your attacks to the target for 6 sec (more volts you have the more this generates)
Lightning shield – 1s cast, 25s CD Absorbs damage and has same traits as electrical creature. Consumes volts, but generates them when destroyed.
Lightning discharge – insta cast, 3min CD Castable at 8000-9000 Volts and unleashes full power then all your volts will rapidly decay till you hit 0 Volts. Also gives you bonus crit and when you crit your chance to cast additional spell is doubled.
Lightning rush – insta cast, 15s CD Kennen E
Lighting rod – Directs all unwanted lightning dmg to this rod. Engineer must craft this for you (THERE MORE TYPES THEN 1)
Talents: ??? the more volts you have the greater chance you have to cast a random spell after cast Volts – Some of your spells generate volt, the more volts you have the more dmg you do and you get more crit chance. Also you get 0,4% chance per 100 volt to cast random lightning spell after you cast spell. Above 100: you take dmg if you don’t have Lightning Armor Above 6000: lightning overload don’t have to be channeled and gives you haste Above 8000: you start damaging everyone around you if you dont have Lightning rod nearby Over 9000: reachable with CD (must have shield on => consumes it) everything will generate Volts but after a while your Volt will rapidly decay.

Fire Bolt – 2,25s cast Deal fire dmg.
Firestorm – insta cast, 8s CD Casts 3 mini fire bolts.
Fire Armor – 1,5s cast Increases your armor and gives you traits of Fire creature. Reduced dmg from Fire, Nature and Frost. More dmg from Water.
Fire Blast – insta cast, 12s CD Deals fire dmg, castable while casting other spells.
Molten Nova – insta cast, 30s CD Deals fire dmg and snares every enemy.
Pyro bolt – 5s cast Deals fire dmg.
Pillar of Flame – 4s cast Deals fire dmg in area and then leaves patch of fire on the ground.
Fire Breath – insta cast, 20s CD Deals fire dmg infront of you and stuns targets for 4s.
Molten shield – 1s cast, 25s CD Absorbs damage and has same traits as Fire creature.
Molten block – instacast, 4min CD Makes you invulnerable for 10s.
Searing Flight – insta cast, 15s CD Moves in targeted area and then does fire dmg at the end.
Manic flames – insta cast, 2min CD Give you 100% crit chance.
Talents: ??? – your fire dots make your next Pyro Bolt instant ??? – if strike 2 critical strikes after each other you Pyro Bolt and Pillar of Fire becomes instant ??? – if you don’t critically strike your critical strike chance doubles ??? – you have 15% increased chance to deal a critical strike ??? – you gain X% more of the critical strike stat from all sources when you have Fire Armor active ??? – Fire Blast has 2 charges ??? – ablaze can now stack up to 2 stacks with Pyro bolt and pillar of fire

Earth Bolt – insta cast Deals dmg. Transforms into volley of 5 earth bolts when not on worked ground, each generates 4 earth might.
Earth Armor – 1,5s cast Increases your armor and gives you traits of Earth creature. Reduced dmg from Earth, Fire, Lightning and Wind. Soaked applies corrosive debuff. Also generates up to 10 earths might when out of combat and your movement is reduced by 15%.
Earth Blast – insta cast Consumes up to 60 earths might.
Earth Nova – insta cast, 30s CD Deals dmg and snares everyone.
Worlds end – 4s cast Consumes 100 earths might and creates big bolder above your character over 4 secs then smash it in targeted location. Also creates 3x bigger worked ground then earth bolt, if there is worked ground in that circle the dmg will be reduced by how much of worked ground is in the circle.
Restore Earth – 1,2s cast Consumes 60 earth might and restores every worked ground in range.
Earthquake – insta cast Consumes 60 earths might, knocks down instantly if on worked ground.
Unravelled earth – 1,2s cast Instantly procs when somebody steps on it. (Taliyah E)
Earth Barricade – insta cast Consumes 20 earth might, builds wall infront of you that blocks 1 hard hitting attacks or 2 normal ones.
Seismic shove – insta cast, 12s CD Pushes you or enemies in the direction.
Rocksurfing – insta cast Gives you bonus movement speed.
Talents: Earths Might – your damaging spells now don’t cost mana instead their generate or consume earths might
Blood:

Blood Bolt – 1,8s cast Deal blood dmg.
Mini Blood bolt – insta cast, 3s CD You can store up to 5 mini blood bolts, recharge time 3s. Blood orbs can cast this spell (you can cast it even if you are casting)
Blood Blast – insta cast, 8s CD Deals blood dmg. Consumes blood orb and increases damage of your mini bolts for up to 5 times.
Blood Nova – insta cast, 20s CD Leaves circle on ground for 3s and slows enemies, can be recasted after 1,5s to snare all enemies in it.
Hemmorhage – insta cast Deals dmg over 12s.
Wave of Blood – insta cast Leaves circle on ground (same as blood nova), after 1,5s you can recast this ability to deal dmg.
Bloody tide – insta cast, 10s CD Charges over 1s. Second cast unleashes 3 blood bolts that crit infront of you. (Like Vladimir E)
Sanquine pool – insta cast, 50s CD You can cast bloody transportation and you can also cast other spells if you have blood orbs up.
Bloody transportation – insta cast, 12s CD Becomes untargetable and dashes forward.
Talents: Blood orbs – build up to 5 blood orbs around you, blood orbs can cast some spells for you. Hemoplague – target takes 10% bonus dmg when affected by hemmorhage.

Arcane Bolt – 2,25s cast Deals Arcane dmg and stacks arcane power, does critical on fluxed targets. Each Arcane Power increases damage by 60% and mana cost by 100%, and reduces cast time by 8%.
Overload – insta cast, 2 charges, 6s CD Deals arcane dmg based on stacks and if target has flux on them refunds all additional mana from Arcane Power to you based on stacks consumed.
Arcane Armor – 1,5s cast Increases your armor and gives you traits of Arcane creature. Reduced dmg from almost all elements but void deals massive dmg to you. Also arcane dmg to you gives you arcane power.
Arcane Blast – insta cast, 10s CD Deals arcane dmg and applies dot on fluxed target over 12s.
Arcane Nova – insta cast, 30s CD Pushes back enemies slowly (can be jumped over), if hit targets have flux on them, at the end pulls everyone who has been hit back in and snares them (no matter where they are).
Arcane ray – insta cast, 1min CD if arcane ray meets another it does true damage, increases your mana regen if you deal true dmg to fluxed target.
Flux – 1s cast. 3 charges, recharge time 6 sec. Deals arcane damage to enemies. Also applies flux. If flux is already on target flux spreads to nearby targets and deals dmg or heals as well.
Arcane wave – insta cast, 15s CD Slows targets, fluxed targets are disoriented.
Arcane shield – 1s cast, 25s CD Absorbs damage and has same traits as Arcane creature.
Warp – insta cast, 12s CD Blinks in moving direction.
Distortion – insta cast, 30s CD Teleports you back to where you last Warped from and resets the cooldown on Warp. Only usable within 10 sec of Warping.
Mirror image – insta cast, 1 min CD Lasts 30 seconds, mirrors your moves around target and your spells, when you don’t have target it runs next to you. Puts you in stealth for 2s.

Souls gems - small/common/big/grand big Small soul gem - 25% (1/4) of Grand Big Soul Gem, Common SG - 50% (1/2) of GBSG, Big SG - 75% (3/4) of GBSG You unlock 4 small soul gems through quest at lvl 10. Bigger gems can be crafted by Jewel Crafters or found in the world.
Unholy Bolt – 2s cast Deals unholy dmg, generates soul gems.
Lay waste – insta cast Explodes on the ground and deal unholy dmg (Karthus Q), generates soul gems.
Necrotic Armor – 1,5s cast Increases your armor and gives you traits of Undead creature. Reduced dmg from Unholy and Nature sources. More dmg from Fire sources.
Necrotic Blast – insta cast, 13s CD Rips out soul from enemy dealing high dmg, generates soul gems.
Necrotic Nova – insta cast, 30s CD slows enemies for 50% for 4s, decays over duration, and gives 10% magic penetration debuff
Damned souls – 3s cast Consumes all soul gems and deal massive dmg.
Defile – instacast Deals unholy damage around you.
Endless mist – insta cast, 12s CD Long line of mist infront of you.
Unholy Shield – 1s cast, 25s CD Absorbs damage and has same traits as Undead creature.
Ghost walk – insta cast, 30s CD Leave your body behind but you can still casts spells from your spirit (defile will be around your spirit), second cast teleports you to ghost location. You can ghost walk for 12s. ?At the end of duration you will be teleported to the ghost location?
MIST - passive Generates 1 small soul gem per second but reduces mist duration by 1 second for every gem generated. Can be destroyed with Light.
Talent: ??? - Necrotic nova spawns a mist ??? - Necrotic blast now has 2 charges

Void Bolt – 2,2s cast Deals void dmg.
Nether ray – channeling Deals void dmg over time and slows target for 20%.
Void Armor – 1,5s cast Gives you traits of Void creature. Resists to last school of magic that hit you.
Void Blast – 1,5s cast, 7s CD Deals massive void dmg.
Void Nova – insta cast, 18s CD Deals void damage and slows for 90% over 5s
Null zone – channeling Deals void damage in area.
Silence pulse – insta cast, 18s CD Silences everyone in infornt cone.
Void shield – 1s cast, 25s CD Absorbs damage and has same traits as Void creature.
Rift walk – insta cast, 12s CD Sends out void copy of yourself forward. You can recast this ability to blink to copy location.
Vampiric void – 1,5s cast Deals shadow dmg over 20s and heals you for 50% of dmg done.
Malefic visions – insta cast Deals void dmg to target over 14s. If target dies it spreads to nearby enemies. In nule zone malefic vision spreads every tick.
Voidform – insta cast, 2min CD You give in to whispers of watchers for 7s, making your void bolt insta cast, reducing void blast CD by 1,5s and you start stacking 0,5% rapidness every 1s. Your void damage extends this effect and reduces CD.
Devouring Void – insta cast, 9s CD Deals massive dmg. Castable only if target falls under 25% HP.
Talents: ??? - Malefic visions crits do more 25% dmg. ??? - Devouring Void has 2 charges. ??? - Void blast has 2 charges.
Wind:
Wind is more pacific magic then others it must be combined with another magic or fighting style to show its true potential. So I have made Wind mage more like something you would pick to troll your opponents.
Wind Bolt – 1,5s cast Deals wind dmg and pushes target back.
Gust of wind – insta cast, 4s CD Pushes everyone in cone back and deal little dmg.
Wind Armor – 1,5s cast Increases your armor and gives you traits of Wind creature. Reduced dmg from Electric, Fire and Wind. Takes bonus dmg from Shadow.
Wind Blast – insta cast, 15s CD Throws target in the air and deals fall dmg.
Wind Nova – insta cast, 24s CD Pushes everyone back.
Vortex – insta cast, 35s CD Create a vortex, everyone who tries to leave vortex or steps near it is pull in.
Clouds – channeling Creates clouds in the area that can be empowered (lightning=storm, water=rain, …).
Howling Gale – insta cast, 15s CD Creates a tornado that knock up every one hit by it. Enemies suffer fall dmg.
Wind wall – insta cast, 12s CD Creates wind wall that deflect all projectiles.
Wind walk – insta cast Drains your mana when you move but you can cast without side effects when moving and you get slow fall.
