Anelyse, the Shadowsinger
Hello friends, community members, and fellow creators! Welcome to the second of the five Elementalist posts! In case this is your first time here, let me catch you up on the basics. The Elementalists are teenagers from all around Runeterra, born with a natural affinity for a particular Element in nature. Guided by their Familiars, the Elementalists join forces to battle an ancient evil, making friends and enemies along the way. As you follow the story of the Elementalists you will see familiar faces in unfamiliar lights. Without further ado I am proud to present to you my second Elementalist, Anelyse, the Shadowsinger.
All right everyone calm down. Yes, Anelyse is another shadow assassin. But when I'm done I think you'll agree that she brings a whole new set of skills to the archetype. Anelyse's primary weapon are her claws, and her Familiar is Selene, a panther formed entirely from solid shadow. Anelyse was designed around midlane, meaning she has good poke and all-in potential and her roams can be devastating. Her job is to get in, kill someone, and get out, something more recent assassins have seemed to forget how to do. *glares meaningfully at Akali
* She does have all group damage abilities, but before you get too upset with me, read her abilities because I explain all of my thoughts. Remember, I love to hear from you guys, as long as you comments are constructive and courteous.
Passive: Selene’s Fury: Each ability applies a stack of shade to each enemy hit, stacking up to three times. After three stacks, the next ability or auto attack to damage the champion will call on Anelyse’s shadow panther Familiar Selene to deal magic damage and stun the target after one second.
Explanation: Rewards a good player for landing their abilities. Meant for finishing off a target while running away. You will also note that she has a bunch of group affecting abilities (all of them) which is the main reason the stun is there. If she’s killing a Lucian
, having an offhand stun to run away from his vengeful Xin Zhao
will be useful.
Q: Rend and Rive: Anelyse opens two shadow gates. She then dashes to the first one, dealing magic damage and shredding magic resistance (does not apply to it’s own damage). She immediately dashes out of the second one, dealing magic damage, and resetting all resistance shreds (does not apply to it’s own damage). If an enemy is hit by both parts they take extra damage
Explanation: This is her main ability. She can do whatever she wants with it, but the player has to decide ahead of time. If they want to poke or farm, the can put the first part across the minion wave and/or enemy, and then start from a slightly different location and dash back to safety, taking almost no damage in the process. If she wants to engage, she can do the exact same thing this time starting the vector dash (the second part) from in front and ending behind her target. This ability also has the thematic point of the ability shreds. She is making them vulnerable and setting her team up to kill them if she can't. Eat your heart out Akali
mains.
W: Shadow Song: Anelyse sings a note, releasing a ring of shadow from her position. Any enemies hit take magic damage and are blinded.
Explanation: Burst damage and defense. It’s also a little thematic point, blinding enemies hit by shadow. Deals damage when the wave connects so there is reaction time.
E: Eviscerate: Anelyse jumps to a target enemy with shade on them, dealing magic damage to the target and all enemies hit along the way. If this ability procs the passive the ability can be recast as a dash, dealing magic damage to all enemies hit. If this second dash procs the passive, the ability is again reset in a potentially never ending loop.
Explanation: Yeah, yeah I gave her another dash. Or two. Or even three. So what? This allows her to get back on targets who flashed or dashed away. If the player is a good one, she can then make her exit, perhaps triggering her passive again, and getting another reset. No she cannot gain multiple casts of E from multiple resets with a single E cast.
R: Shadow Travel/Shadow Raid Anelyse unlocks a shadow gates after she visits their location. She can channel while unseen by enemies to travel to any gate she has unlocked, as long as that gate is also unseen, putting Shadow Travel on cooldown. The number of gates increases with skill level and the locations are chosen from a select few at random. After attacking an enemy this ability turns into Shadow Raid, which teleports her behind all enemies she has damaged in the last 5 seconds in order from most to least recent. When she teleports to an enemy she stabs them in the back, dealing magic damage before moving to her next target. This goes on full cooldown, but Shadow Travel can still be used.
Explanation: Expect to be seeing a lot of Anelyse roams, dives, and counter jungle assists. I wanted her to bring a whole new meaning to vision control. If the enemies can't see her, I didn't want them to be afraid. I wanted them to be terrified. This is also her teamfight ender and the second reason she has the potential to hit all enemies. She goes all in on a squishy, kills them, E’s out (if she got the reset) and ult back in, hopefully ending right on top of another hapless squishy or low health target.
Bio: Anelyse Sombra Escure was born to Demacia’s prestigious Escure family. Her father is the head of the Demacian mage seeker system. Anelyse is expected to marry a man of her father’s choosing, so they can assume the role. Anelyse wants none of that. Fascinated at a young age by the reports the mage seeker brought before her father, she soon began seeking stories from everyone she met. Her parents were quick to try to halt her inquisitiveness, saying it was not right for a young lady to be so nosy or talk so much, but Anelyse found others willing to share their stories. The cooks who taught her the culinary arts shared all the latest gossip with her and were the first to discover her stunning memory when she recounted every ingredient and measure to a recipe book that she had gotten her hands on at the age of 10. When presented with this information her parents simply shook their heads and sent her to voice lessons after school. But this did not help the fact that she was a perfect student and only had to hear a song once to repeat it from memory. She soon began to take any free time she had to sneak off to any of the numerous public libraries wearing only a nondescript black cowled cloak in case she was recognized. At 14, she asked her parents for every other Sevensday to do as she pleased and was delighted when she received a grudging yes. That started her time as a Teller. She would rent an area in a public market and tell tales and sing stories, wearing her cowl over her face. People soon grew to love this charismatic young girl who called herself the Shadowsinger and as her reputation grew, so did her crowds and the attention she drew, to the point that she had to change locations every other week for fear of discovery. One evening though, a close friend of Anelyse’s said that her sister had been kidnapped and the kidnappers were asking for “the girl you call Shadowsinger”. Without many options, Anelyse left to confront the kidnappers, knowing full well that she would be walking unarmed into a trap. The leader of the kidnappers allowed her friend to go free, before revealing himself to be General Darius of the Noxian army. He insisted that Anelyse come with him before he had to get violent. She managed to buy time by appealing to his team’s superstitious nature, telling them a fictitious story about a Huntsman, who hunted down the souls who managed to bypass the Kindred. Just as Darius lost his patience, a boy about Anelyse’s age interposed himself and his wolf between them, claiming to be the Huntsman. To prove the “Huntsman” was mortal Darius attacked and managed to wound the young warrior whose name is revealed to be Briar. His team, their spirits reinforced attacked the unlikely duo. Briar fought two on his own, summoning plants to his aid, while his wolf fought Darius, entangling his feet and splitting the earth. Anelyse, armed only with a gambler’s dagger, looked at the grinning mace man in front of her, and then put the fight between herself and him. Briar manages to knock one of his opponents over, accidentally tripping Anelyse. Before she can recover her opponents grabs her by the hair and throws her into the wall. She never connects. Instead she is enveloped in darkness, seeing nothing but the ground(?) under her feet. A mysterious female voice, simultaneously young and ancient welcomes her back into her birthright before she walks back onto the other side of the alley where the fight was taking place. Filled with new power and confidence she sends a wave of shadow through the Noxian squad, blinding them. Not wanting to lose, but not having a choice, the Noxians retreat. Before Darius can leave Briar gives him a warning to never come back. Darius with a parting sneer responds in kind, wishing the duo the best before they end up behind bars. Anelyse, suddenly exhausted and anxious breaks down not knowing what she will do as a mage. Briar offers her several options with their pros and cons. Together they decide to tell her parents a half-truth, informing them about the Noxians and the fight exempting any references to magic. Anelyse claims Briar as her new bodyguard, saying when her parents have doubt that she trusts him with her life. They soon become friends regardless of their vastly different ranks, and Briar teaches Anelyse how to use her magic and how to fight in private. They soon realize that she is best with the claw weapons, using them in tandem with her shadow magic to get the drop on opponents and shred through their armor. They also discover the face behind the mysterious voice, Anelyse’s Elemental familiar Selene. Selene reveals the secrets behind the shadow realm and why Anelyse couldn’t use her magic. Petricite pills. Her parents discovered her abilities at a young age and contracted a petricite specialist to make a solution. Anelyse immediately stops taking her “lifesaving medicine” which makes her shadow magic less exhausting. Several months go by before Anelyse finds out about a formal banquet being held in honor of Lady Luxana Crownguard’s 19th birthday. Anelyse is excited to see her friend again, but Briar foresees only trouble, so he prepares. He designs an outfit for Anelyse that can be worn in a formal setting but in a pinch will work on the street. It’s black with subtle dark red highlights, pretty and pretty good for moving unseen. It has a cowl, an atypical fashion statement that highborn girls would soon adopt for themselves. But when the Noxian war masons bombed the party, it was the last part that saved Anelyse. The long flowing dress was plain in comparison to some of the ladies’ dresses, but had cryptic patterns in that same dark red. It was cinched at the waist with a black belt with silver and gold filigree designs that, when slightly loosened, revealed that the dress came off and there were pants underneath, with the same designs as the dress. Forced to use magic to save themselves and the partygoers, the duo had nowhere to go but out. So out they went, hiring the first ship at the harbor to go “anywhere but here”.
Q and A
Q: Who are you? A: I am JamesDrake9, Bronze toplane main and Kled and Urgot specialist. I am 15 years old and in 10th grade. I often think I’m being funny when I’m not, so I tried to keep this as professional and serious as possible.
Q: What inspired you to create these Champions? A: Writing is a long-time passion of mine, particularly character development, and League of Legends is a wonderfully crafted game, so when I found the Concepts & Creations board, I thought it was the perfect time to put my limited abilities to the test.
Q: What is the shadow realm? How does it work? A: Unlike the Void the shadow realm is a neutral other world, created entirely from darkness where distance matters little. Its main use is simply for faster travel, as can be evidenced through several Champions abilities. The key is to see where you want to go in your head, and the shadow realm will take you there. Evelynn’s stealth passive is her moving through the shadow realm, giving her a speed boost. Her empowered E is her coming out of the shadow realm, thus the longer range, and her R is again moving her through the shadow realm. Nocturne’s Q is the shadow realm manifested, which is why it gives him more movespeed, and his R takes Summoner’s Rift map to the shadow realm, causing the Nearsight and the dash. To the same extent Kayn W gives him access to the shadow realm, if only very briefly. Fiddlesticks’ R allows him to utilize the shadow realm for the short dash Other champions who use the shadow realm to a lesser extent are Zed, who can only teleport to his own shadow clones, and Katarina, who can only teleport to her own daggers. I believe that is all of them, so if I missed any or you have questions let me know in the comments below.
Q: I recognize Darius in her Bio, but who is Anelyse’s bodyguard, Briar? A: He is an Elementalist whose kit I am not quite happy with. But rest assured he and his wolf aren’t going anywhere.
Q: Who are the Elementalists? A: They are teenagers from around Runeterra who have been chosen by the very Elements of the world to represent them in the fight against an ancient evil as it has been foretold. There are seven elements: Fire, water, earth and storm, naturally light and darkness as well, and nature is considered an element apart from earth.
Q: Doesn’t League already have Elementalists? A: Yes. Lux and Taliyah are the Elementalists of light and earth respectively. I am assuming that Lux is 19 and Taliyah and the others are 17 – all born on the same day. Taliyah’s lore gave me the basic idea for the Elementalists lore, as she was taken from her home by Noxians for use on the warfront
Q: Who can we look forward to seeing next? A: At the moment there is an Elementalist whose main kit is mostly locked in, excepting her Passive and Ultimate. I don’t like spoilers, but I will give you her Epithet: The Storm Archer. Expect more on her soon.
