[DAR] Design A Rioter - Gypsylord
Welcome to my second installement of Design a Rioter, a thread that I plan to make roughly weekly in which I arbitrarily elect a Rioter which will be the target of my next design, be it an item, champion, game mode, or map. These concepts are supposed to be semi serious. The won't ever be something like an item that allows you to instantly win or a champion that is flat out obnoxious, but I not everything is meant to be perfectly balanced either. The first one was about ManWolfAxeBoss and this one, as you probably understood at this point, will be about Gypsylord.
#Who's the guy Gypsylord has been a Rioter for roughly 2 years now and is one of the persons who joined the Riot Games office the youngest. He's currently filling the rôle of Champion Designer. Like most other champion designers, he started by assisting other Rioters in their development and testing, but has since been promoted to full-fledged designer and released Vi, Jinx and Gnar (Soon™). His initial goal was to one day release a support on the official roster but has, for now, been elected as the Piltover-gurl designer, since it works very well.
As a person now, he truly enoys Yordles, especially Teemo and Tristana, as well as supports. He has always been a big advocate of support Zyra and also likes a lot of other poke-y more standard supports.Outside of League of Legends, he can talk to you quite extensively about Fire Emblem.
His name comes from his childhood. He grew up in the state of Alaska, and thus used one of his childhood hero as a pseudonyme, Gypsy, his dog. Later on, due to character limits, he appended lord to it, taking inspiration from the Wheel of Times series (among others, it's not like lord is that rare :P).
For more information about him, you can refer to Gypsylord's AMAA that is now pretty darn stale (like most 2 years old threads).
As a tribute to him and his love for supports, I chose to design a support for this one. Inspiring myself from him name (Gypsy) I chose to make something that was a bit more mystical and magic-wielding. Inspiring myself from his lovfe of Fire Emblem, and especially Mathew, I chose to make it more thief/rogue oriented. This lead me to imagine a character that uses both weapon and magic (thus, most probably, magic-imbued weapon) and whose playstyle would be based more around trickery and small assaults than all-in facetanking. To make sure I stay far enough from Leblanc/Shaco, it has to be based on active tricks more than stealth/clones.
I chose to give it an heavy wind flavor, since it gives him attachement to Riven/Yasuo and also helps shape his playstyle a bit (it should be more fluid and less direct damage). Also Wind is Matt's affinity, so that's a plus.
#Gypsylord – the Breeze's Sting
Innate : Bleeding Out Using a skill on an enemy will leave him bleeding for 8 (+2*level) true damage over 4 seconds. The bleeding can be extended for up to 4 seconds by attacking him. The bleeding's damage is enhanced by your critical damage multiplier.
Q : Flying Dagger Gypsylord throws a dagger in target direction dealing 10/25/40/55/70 (+1 AD) physical damage to the first unit hit. You can reactivate the skill in mid-air to redirect the dagger and slightly extend its reach.
Range : 1000 (speed :1000) Cooldown : 8/7/6/5/4
W : DIsarm Gypsylord forcefully convinces his enemies to let their weapons down. Target enemy receives 50/75/100/125/150 (+0.4 bonus AD) physical damage, and the damage dealt by their auto-attacks are reduced by 50% against minions and neutral monsters and 25% against champions for 3s.
Range : 200 Cooldown : 13s
E : Feint After 3/3.5/4/4.5/5s, Gypsylord returns to the location of the cast healing back 30/35/40/45/50% of the life he lost during that time. Additionally, Gypsylord gains 40% Cooldown Reduction but deals 50% reduced damage while feinting.
Cooldown :10/9/8/7/6s (starts after he warps back)
R : Williwaw
Passive : Striking an enemy gives Gypsylord 4/6/8% increased movement speed which is doubled Active : For the next 12 seconds, Gypsylord's weapons are imbued with wind for 8/11/14. Gypsylord now throws his daggers from a distance, inflicts 48/72/96 (+0.57 AP) magic damage on-hit (reduced by 15% with every hits down to a minimum of 8/12/16 (+0.097 AP)) and leaves the enemy Bleeding Out. Nearby allies gains 50 attack range and 8/12/16 (+0.097) magic damage on-hit.
Cooldown : 80/70/60 Slow radius: 350 Buff radius : 700
For those wondering how strong the ultimate is, you can get roughly 11 valuable hits before hitting the minimum, giving you a total of roughly 266, 400 and 532 damages depending on ranks. For the total expected damage, I used 12 hits for a low case (you hit like 7-8 times, your team hits 8-10 times) and 30 for a high case (you hit 11+ times, and you team hits another 14 times). These 2 gives a damage span of roughly 570%-800%. So expected damages would be roughly 274-384/410-576/547-768 (+3.25-4.6 AP). I didn't mind giving that big of a ratio given how aweful an AP build would be, since this is his only ratio and he can neither proc lich bane from range nor combine it with a skill (AA reset). The base damage may be slightly too high, but that's easily tweakable (raise ratio to .8 and/or reduce base by 4-8).
