From what I understood, Ultimate skins tend to come out once a year. Well, its nearly New Year's and we still have no sign of a new ultimate skin. What happened? We received few hints but no real answers. I am guessing that there might be two ultimate skins in 2015. One In early 2015, and another later in the year.
But still, what happened?
Riot mentioned that they are working on a ultimate skin but they are keeping it very secret in case they would scratch the whole idea.
I suspect the reason we have not had an ultimate skin this year is because Riot has been busy with the new Summoners rift map, a new jungle, tons of texture reworks along with the usual new champions and champion reworks and of course the new splash arts.
If Riot is staying with the current ultimate skin in progress it should be out 2015.

Probably scrapped the whole Thing since it was apparently DJ Sona and no one wants that bullshit. She's garbage and had plenty of skins as it is.

What, there's literally only been 2 ultimate skins. That's not enough to be able to create an accurate pattern for determining when the next ultimate skin will be released. I also doubt that they promised anything either, I think they said they would try and that was the plan, but no promises (this was around a year ago btw so a lot could have changed since then).
But if rumours are true, it should be coming out to the PBE in mid-late January and released in early February.
#LC$BIGPLAYS or some shit. IDK, seems like that's the thing to blame everything else on. Why not skins?
That said, the world needs more Ultimate skins.

I wouldn't pass Riot to give it to a new champion as their first skin or in part of a champion's kit rework(meaning the skin is developed around the champion's kit rework in mind)
I've heard rumors on Reddit that DJ Sona was going to be the Ultimate skin this year, but due to overwhelmingly negative feedback they switched DJ Sona to a legendary skin. The ultimate skin is rumored to be officially teased early next month, and is likely Xerath, or someone else "severely lacking in skins". However, you should take this information with a grain of salt, because it could all be bogus. I wouldn't be surprised to see it revealed in the next month though. Probably about the time Dauntless/Challenger Ahri hits the game.
Personally I'm hoping for the hinted at "Mecha Karthus".
There are files that hint at a dj-sona skin,but we don't know if she is the ultimate skin or not(also don't believe the crap about the skin getting scrapped or anything like that,there has been nothing coming from riot about that skin and they won't scrap a skin they didn't even show just because some people are against the idea in general)
Anyway,the ultimate skin was most likely planned for this year,but simply took a bit longer to develop.Sometimes they run into problems with skins/champs,be it a bug,something about the design,or whatever.
What I wonder is that if the Ultimate skin is indeed for Sona, that 'DJ' is just a codename used to throw us off. The sounds that are on the pbe so far don't really remind me of anything that a dj would use (and no dubstep wubs, either). Perhaps they went with that 'Vivaldi's Four Seasons Sona' idea that was floating around a year ago.
