Taric Rework

Soulkius and I got bored and were brainstorming how Taric could have been different. We hope you enjoy the mess we thought up.

For the visual aspect, we were thinking that instead of carrying his shield with him, he just has a giant crystal that glides along the ground Lyssandra style near him, and his entire theme would be growing and breaking the gems constantly.

Taric

Gemcraft - After using an ability, Taric deals bonus (Gem) damage and reduces his cooldown by 1 second. This only uses his most powerful gem.

  1. No Gem: Flat true damage with no scaling
  2. Emerald: % of current target's health true damage, no scaling
  3. Ruby: +Armor scaling Physical Damage
  4. Amethyst: +Magic Resist Scaling Magic Damage

Imbue - Taric's next attack heals himself and a nearby ally based on a % of damage dealt, and then applies half the bonus of his current gems.

Shatter - Taric shatter his built up armor, pushing back nearby enemies and disabling his gems passives.

Dazzle - Taric grows a field of gems in front of him in a small cone. Enemies within the cone are slowed, and after 3 seconds become charmed for .5 seconds. This applies a shred based on the level of his gems.

  1. No Gem: No Bonus Affect
  2. Emerald : Grievous wounds and a small magic damage dot based on Taric's bonus health.
  3. Ruby: Shreds Armor.
  4. Amethyst: Shreds Magic resist.

Radiance - Taric energizes his gems and slams his shield into an enemy, inflicting a 2 second stun and applying all on-hit affects. At levels 6, 11, and 16, Taric sockets another outrageous gem into his armor, letting it grow and bolster himself.

  1. Emerald: Taric gains health and mana regen equal to a % of his current health and mana.
  2. Ruby: Taric gains bonus flat AD and increasing his Bonus armor by 12% - 8% - 4%
  3. Amethyst: Taric gains bonus flat AP and increasing his Bonus Magic Resist by 12% - 8% - 4%

At levels 11 and 16, his gems become stronger, increasing their effects. At level 16, Taric will have a lvl 3 gem (picked at level 6) , a lvl 2 gem (picked at level 11), and a lvl 1 gem(Picked last at level 16)

Purpose With this setup, we thought of making Taric a solo lane Paladin, starting as a top lane bruiser and becoming a true tank-support in the end-game. Picking what gem in the early game to socket first would grant him the stats he needs to grow tanky, and a small bonus to his offensive stat of choice that will not scale with him. Each Gem having a trait that would help him out without drastically altering his playstyle.

  • Emerald is about strength of spirit, increasing his regenerative properties and belaying his opponents. As Taric grows weaker, so does his ability to regen.
  • Ruby is about strength of body, increasing his innate strength and the strength of his armor.
  • Amethyst is about strength of mind, increasing his magical ability and resilience to the arcane.

We had fun thinking up how this would play out, and we thought it'd be hilarious if Taric had access to a charm. What do you guys think of this build, does it still even feel like Taric? What do you guys think would have been better?

I like it. I've been trying top lane Taric for a bit and he really needs some help. Leona and Braum outclass him completely in the top lane, but changes like the ones you've suggested could really help.

I don't think his kit needs to be changes that drastically, however I do love the idea here of socketing a gem into his armor when he levels his ult. Also that little mini push on shatter would be great for helping to peel. Dazzle is my main issue here. I think it should still be a single target stun, then a bonus effect (depending on gem) if you melee auto attack the target while stunned. Like breaks the stun in to a slow or slow + small close range AoE Stun around the target. other then that I've always liked how his aura and heal works.
