Thoughts About Kog'Maw

Kog'Maw - League of Legends (Tablet sketch)

The picture is not owned by me but by liokazar.

I think Kog'Maw right now is clearly unbalanced, because of his w, he became a late game champion with a great laning phase and a comparable quick power spike need only 2-3 items. I think we can change his passive to delay his power spike while benefits his late games more. The purpose of this change is to let Kog'Maw do more stuff then just stand there and auto attack, which is brainless, at least for low elo.

Passive: Instead of a lame passive that explodes after the Kog'Maw die (which is something ADC definitely want to avoid). It will be much better to fit into his background story if he can "eat" something.

  • after 10 mins in the game, Kog'Maw will become hungry and he has to eat an item in the item box, and he will stay not hungry depends on what level of the item he eats. (consumable last shortest time, to basic, to advance, to mythical, to legendary.) And in return, he will get 70% of the items basic stats and 70% of passive effect/s. However, no active effects receive. Also, UNIQUE passive will only get to 100% even when he "eats" the same item twice. When there are no items he can "eat" he start taking damage and become Icathian Surprise mode (the old passive) when he dies. - This will weaken a huge amount of his laning phase power so that he will force to do more than farm to get over the laning phase.

Q: Caustic Spittle I think q is useful right now but too boring. Instead of reduced the enemy's armor and magic resist, it will be fun to reduce the enemy's damage. As the acid doesn't have to melt their armor only but they can melt their weapon also.

  • The Q will reduce the enemy's bonus damage output by 5%/15%/25%/35%/45% (+1% per 100ap) for 3 seconds. - It will give Kog'Maw some trading power back in the laning phase however, It will be CRUCIAL to land the Q to the enemy if Kog'Maw try to survive the laning phase and to be able to farm safely. Keep in minds that the reduction is only for bonus damage output, so output giving by passive or items, the base stats will not be affected, so it's not too overpowered, it only lasts for 3 seconds anyway.

R: Living Artillery R is already good the way it is, but it should be that players feel a difference if they don't use it. So Kog'Maw's main damage output source - his basic attack, should be affected by this ability too. -The armor/magic resist reduction Kog'Maw need for the team fight can be moved to here, the reduction will stack, but for each stack, it only reduces 2%/4%/6% of the enemy. - so this force Kog'Maw to used ult for frequently instead of just stand there and auto attack in a team fight. And he has to survive longer if he wants the stacking of armor/magic resist reduction to actually make a difference.

In conclusion, this Kog'Maw after the rework will have to do more in both laning phase and team fight to achieve the same result as the Kog'Maw right now. What his passive actually does is to reduce his gold income for about 30% (well, less than that, one item at a time) as he only gets 70% effect of the item he buys (eventually). In return for the highly unfavorable early game, his extreme late game (where everyone has 6 items) will be much stronger than other champions because he will have "more" item than them. This also introduces a new way of connection between summoners and champions, we don't just control them, we start communicating with them. This new Kog'Maw passive is a great example. Kog'Maw becomes this pet that you have to feed once a while to keep him happy.
