Gamemode Concept - Project: Rebel
Today I have a gamemode that sort of fits a VS type theme, but incorporating 2 different sets of skins that, while they are similar, are different.
The skin themes that would be featured in this gamemode is the PROJECT Theme and the Program Theme.
The way this gamemode could work would be similar to the typical way a summoners rift match goes. There are 2 teams, (The skins), and these teams are fighting each other. The story behind this event that would give it a bit of depth is that The PROJECT characters are rebelling against the program characters, with the Program skin characters looking to make the PROJECT skins fully under their control. The full lore would clearly be much more in depth, but this is just a rough idea so that the concept doesn't just seem to be out of nowhere.
Gameplay: The gameplay of this would be in a 5v5 enviornment, (either on a version of the summoners rift that has been reskinned to look more futuristic, more likely in the style of the Program skins, or on a different version of the Howling Abyss that has been reskinned), and would consist of a team of PROJECT characters on one side, with the Program skinned characters on the other. The whole theme of the combat in the game would be that it is the PROJECT characters on one side as the people rebelling against the system with their variety of abilities (Generators), and the Program characters on the other trying to regain control of the rebelling people by using a horde-type tactic to overwhelm them.
The Program Side: The program skins could have items that create other characters, similar to that of the Voidlings spawned by malzahar and the zz'rot portal, but would be changed up to have different roles. The reskins of them would vary depending on what kind you buy, with there being approximately 4 or 5 different kinds of portals people can choose from to buy, but only one being owned by someone at a time. These different types could be Damage, Speed, Healing, Defense, and maybe Shields. Each of these would work in a different way and have different uses. You could place the speed portals farther back since the machines spawned by them would be fast and can go a larger distance, but they wont do as much damage wise, while the Health ones would target allies, (only a certain amount of these could be spawned at a time), and these could follow players around and heal them up at a slow pace, but still healing them more then they normally would regenerate health. The tank ones could be larger, bulkier machines that can only go a specific distance before they would form a small amount of terrain, similar to that of a Trundle pilliar or an Ornn Q. These terrains can be broken, similar in fashion to an Azir turret or Yorick's wall, but as a wall, and can block projectiles while taking damage from them, until eventually they break. The shielding option also could be used as a sort of pilliar that is made on the screen that sends out pluses around a set area, possibly approximately the size of Aurelion Sol's stars when he expands them, or slightly bigger. People within this pule on the Program team would gain a shield when the pulse passes through them, scaling with upgrade level. Each of these generators could have an effect where their stats weaken if they are too close to another machine generator, that way a team can't just get a ton of them in one area and just siege.
Each of these Portals can be upgraded by the players using a special in game currency, (Something technical, suck as drives or something like that), that they gain over time and from kills. Having it be from kills only should cause players to be more prone to share kills since only one of the machine portals can be out at a time, so they cant have the most upgrades and in-game potential if someone horde's it. The characters would also have their in game abilities that they normally would have, and possibly slightly modified stats if the smaller roster for the Program skins is overrun by the larger roster of PROJECT skins.
The PROJECT Side: The players of the project side would have their own unique items that help them combat the forces provided by the Programs, such as Generators or something of the sort. These generators could look like the style of the PROJECT theme, and could serve a variety or purpose. In order to balance out the spawning rate that the opposing side would have, these generators would have a semi-short cooldown (this can vary, depending on the spawn rate of the opposing forces). One example of this is that there could be a generator that creates a wall similar to that of a Karthus wall, growing in size with upgrades, and blocking damage that is flying from that direction up to a preset amount that also scales with its upgrade level. Another Generator that could be found in this is a turret generator that creates a turret on the ground similar to Heimerdinger. The turret could act similar to his, or could be a miniature Azir passive. The types of generators that there could be are Shield, Turret, Jump (similar to that of an Ez jump in range, and can be used by a set amount of people, probably around 2-3 allies), Trap, an area of effect explosion that the can cast (similar to a ziggs ult, but smaller), and maybe some others. The way the trap one would work would be that, when placed, shows a grid on the ground around where it was places, where allies can place hidden traps similar to that of Jhin within specific parts of the grid, with a set amount, and they can use this to combat the numbers that the enemy team has.
Creatures withing the game: The minions in the game can be Program Minions vs PROJECT Minions, with the major objectives, (Dragons, Baron, and Rift Herald), Acting as viruses, which would make there feel like a reason for players to attack the objectives, as well as tie them into the theme of the game. If the gamemode took place on the Howling Abyss, then there wouldn't be much worry about this, though it could be neat to put the rift herald in it where it spawns sometime between a set period of time as an objective. There could be a whole glitch-like effect when its coming, with the system needing to be fixed. system as in the theme of the skins, not the actual games.
So, what do you guys think of this? I personally just feel like there is a fair amount of potential in this, allowing players to not only choose a side, but to fight on that side as well. Along with that, there are 2 primarily digital based skin lines, so it'd cool to have an event sort of tying them together in some sense.
