While browsing the nets as many of you summoners do i came across something quite interesting which was a drawing of someone's idea for a skin or perhaps just a stab in a direction of one for Azir which would be known as "Chessmaster Azir." Something about this skin sparked my brain to come up with some ideas behind some of the effects this skin might have.

  • Arise! (Azir's W) - When Azir summons his soldiers perhaps they come as pawns? Maybe randomize what chess piece comes out with a high chance of the piece being a pawn?

  • Shurima's Legacy (Azir's passive) - Maybe the tower could be a giant Rook piece or maybe a Knight?

  • Emperor's Divide (Azir's R or ultimate), should it come out as a full wall of pawns or perhaps a mixture of different chess pieces?

  • I haven't got any ideas for the staff unfortunately, still thinking on that..

But how does the League of Legends community feel about this skin? What do you think this skin needs to really be unique and make Azir the revered Chessmaster?

Ideas so far:

  • Bishops and or Knights for soldiers (zaphod424 | VylloVizix )
  • Soldiers be made out of Rock not Sand (Crumble away rather than dissolve into sand) (zaphod424)
  • Rooks on the end of pawns for Azir's Ultimate (VylloVizix)
  • Queen for Azir's Passive (summoned towers) (VylloVizix)
  • Recall consists of Azir playing a game of Chess (with himself?) and flipping the table in a fit of rage because hes lost the match (Nichodemons)
  • Azir himself plays as the King Chess piece. (zaphod424)
  • If there is a Chessmaster on both teams let the game randomize their colors and make one white and the other black (SpecterVonBaren)
  • make the soldiers out of a marble texture (D3RPKING)
  • (Finally an idea for the staff, though it may be not be an idea Riot would let slide) Let the top of the Staff be the cross that is atop of the King Chess piece. (Perhaps the whole chess piece so people dont get the wrong idea) (bobsenbob)
  • (update for an idea) Instead of Azir playing against himself he plays against one of his soldiers. Another cool thing to throw in is a reference to Geri's Game and have Azir distract the soldier somehow and then flip the table so he is then winning. (bobsenbob | SpecterVonBaren)
  • A effect that occurs under Azir so as he is walking the area at his feet changes from a black to white shade of color. (KrazeeSkull16)
  • "His recall should be sitting down at a chess table with both bishops check mating the king, before the animation ends, have both bishops dash/rush the king and spear him off the table lol." (PornyMcPornstar)

I like the idea, and i would love to see it ingame. I wonder what his recall whould be. Him sitting playing chess, and then he lose and throws the table away in rage XD

As someone who's played a fair bit of chess, I feel I can comment well on this idea.

Overall, most of Azir's kit can best be replicated by the chess pieces on the board and either their relative value or their role on the board.

-Azir should be the king. In a normal game if chess, the king is the most important piece to keep protected because if you lose it, you lose the game. In League of Legends, losing the king should mean a loss of life, and Azir would make perfect sense as the king.

-Azir's passive turret should be the queen. The queen is the most powerful chess piece on the board, and his passive turret is the most powerful piece in Azir's kit. In addition, a large majority of chess openings don't move their queen out much, if at all, and Azir not being able to use his queen until a tower is down would reference that greatly.

-Azir's ultimate should be either all pawns or all pawns with a bishop in the middle. The most common uses of the pawns are to defend the king and to set up an attack on the enemy king. If Azir is to be the king, the pawns should be used to defend it. Many chess openings integrate castling while having a wall of pawns protecting the king, and having his ultimate be pawns would be a great reference to this kind of chess play. All pawns with a bishop in the middle is a reference to certain other openings like the English Opening and the King's Indian Defense, where the pawn line protecting the king has a bishop in the middle.

-Azir's soldiers should be rooks. Rooks, bishops, or knights could all technically go in this place, but rooks fit best because of their interaction with the king. All three fit because they could move within the bounds of Azir's Q and all but the knight could attack within reason if his W'd auto attacks (I don't see Azir attacking in an "L" shape), but rooks are the only piece that works with his E. A special move called castling allows the king to move two spaces, and have the rook move onto the other side of the king, and since Azir's E moves him to a piece and Azir is the king it only makes sense for the piece he moves to be a rook. This also offers cool opportunities to add quotes to his kit, where using his E to his turret could have him say "Castle Queen Side", while using it anywhere else could have him say "Castle King Side", a reference to chess where castling is done with the rook on the "a" file or the "h" file.

I like this idea. Imo Bishops and knights for Arise!, Queen for tower, Rooks on the end of pawns for ult!

Perhaps have azir like the king, I like the idea of rooks for the turrets, maybe bishops for arise, and for his ult, a wall of pawns would work, and I'd say they should be made of rock not sand

Good idea, i have an idea for soldiers

If your on the blue team, your soldiers will be white If your on the red team, your soldiers will be black

Or, we could use a pattern

First soldier, white Second soldier, black

Repeat that, just like a chest board. white-black-white-black. that's how the ult could look aswell

The wall could be the back-line of a chessboard (with the rooks, bishops, queen, knights, et cetera)

I think that the top of his staff should be like the cross on top of the kings head in chess. Also, maybe his recall should be he summons a pawn to play chess with him, but then he(somehow) loses and gets up to fling away the chessboard.

This is a surprisingly good idea for Azir. I've never played the birdman, but this supports his kit quite well with all of the 'pawn' moving.

His W should summon a pawn initially but if he summons another soldier then it will be a knight, then if he summons a third then it's a bishop. Meanwhile his ult is just made up of rooks while his passive is a queen.

OOOOOOHHHHH and they could have it so Azir is black or white depending on which side he's on, so you get black Azir on blue team and white Azir on red team.
