New Niche AP Items and another AP Passover

I was on a 3 hour drive back home by myself so I took some time to spitball some ideas for new niche AP Items that I thought up and some I have seen the community talk about. These are just spitball ideas I did for fun so dont flame me if they are bad. These items could also be balanced better if they turned out broken etc.

Riots goal for the recent AP Itemization Passover was to limit the standard AP build and make it where each item you get is a decision and tradeoff. Just like before there is the same basic build that mages want,(AP,Mana,CDR,Mag Pen) Mana item, sorc boots, morello, void staff, deathcap and usually a zhonyas. These changes and new items below imo offer up that goal. Every item you build has a reason and a tradeoff.

AP/MR Item- Abyssal Scepter- old item but changed up a little bit Ingredients: item 1057 item 1026 Stats: 60AP 55 MR Passive Changes: No longer gives CDR, removed passive New Active: (120 sec CD) once activated gain the Abyssal Aura (30 sec) and your next damaging spell against an enemy lowers the enemy champions MR after damage from the first spell and empowers your next Spell/Auto attack dealing 10% of your current bonus AP Reasoning/Tradeoff: lower AP/MR item than Banshees and with no CDR/M Pen/Mana shouldnt be a rush item, if rushed the tradeoff being no Mana, CDR, Pen and lower amounts of AP. The active makes it a better scaling option and this is meant to be more for Burst Mages and Assassins while Banshees is for traditional Mages

AP/ARMOR Item Ingredients: item 1031 item 1026 Stats: 55 AP 50 Armor Passive: Lifeline(like Maw or Steraks) about time AP champs got the same option for the lifeline passive- basically the opposite number of MAW Reasonings/Tradeoff: again lower AP, no CDR,PEN, or Mana so not likely to be rushed but great to build if you dont normally get Zhonyas and late game they have a fed AD champion. Worried this could stack too well with Zhonyas so potentially lockout the ability to stack them if its too good upon testing. Its a purely defensive option for a mage who is giving up valuable stats for safety.

AP/ATT SPD/Mana Item- my personal favorite idea Ingredients:item 1052 item 1043 item 1027 Stats: 30 AP/25% ATT SPD/250 Mana Passive: For every X amount of attack speed you build you X amount of AP Max of 45 AP(75 total item) Reasoning: Nashors Tooth is also a niche item as is but i thought it could use something to synergize with and its not something normal mages will want because it has no CDR,PEN and low AP that only stacks with SPD. Good niche item for Azir, Teemo, Kayle, AP Varus, Nashors Tooth Orianna build, and some other mixed dmg champs. Just a cool idea i thought.

AP Grievous Item Ingredients: new small item that gives 25ap and the grevious wounds passive, item 1026 Stats: 65 AP Passive: grievous wounds Reasoning/Tradeoff: grievous wounds should be something that is built for a specific purpose not an autopilot reward. Thought it would be interesting for this item to also give spellvamp so its kinda like im hurting your spell vamp and taking some for myself

item 3165 : remove grievous wounds passive, players shouldnt be rewarded with grievous wounds for building an item mindlessly for the AP and Pen.

item 3100 : up 5 AP and 50 mana to give it 300 mana which is half of a Lost chapter item

item 3907 : give it the old ludens passive for build up from movement instead of the current build up from spells. Riot hurt waveclear bc mages were slinging spells too much so it really contradicts what they wanted.

item 3102 : build out of item 1057 maybe also give this the lifeline passive

Sorry for the big post but let me know what you guys think! Again every item you build should have a reason and a tradeoff, not the same build over and over. To gain safety you should lose some other stats as a tradeoff and if you go with the same standard build thats ok these are just niche items for certain circumstances, however, you'll still be glass cannon.

I agree with a lot of the stuff. However, when you started talking about taking Grievous out of Morelo's, i just that that was really stupid. Everyone should (and do) have the chance to build some sort of healing reduction. This is why a lot of people were complaining about the old Morelo's and how it only granted it at 40% health instead of how Mortal Reminder is on attack and how Thornmail is on being hit. Other than that, I don't agree with what you said about Spellbinder.

Hmm yeah i see what you mean, but i guess in my head i thought you should have to stray away from the standard mage build to get grievous wounds for a specific purpose to hurt a Vlad, Mundo etc. The example that comes to my mind is like a simple standard ADC build is: IE, 2 zeals, boots, Lord Doms, Lifesteal. While if you needed grievous wounds you went for mortal reminder but it wasnt the standard build. I agree though its really easy to proc for other classes and this would indeed make you go out of your way to get it. I was just trying to think of ways that change of builds for different champions and different matchups where its not cookie cutter. On Spellbinder its really not a great item atm as far as the active goes. I think it should gather by movement like old Ludens but maybe require 200 instead of 100. Currently takes too long to prepare and people just get it for raw AP and Movespeed, not the active.

Thanks for your thoughts! What did you think of the Attack Speed/AP/Mana item?

That Att/AP/Mana is a really good idea, but who would use it? AP Ezreal? There aren't many Att/Mana mages out there. The list im thinking of is: AP Ezreal Diana Kayle? Back on the Spellbinder, if it would stack like a Shard item (RFC and Statikk) or an Echo item (Luden's and Enchantment: Runic Echos), it would need to be tenfold, because they wanted it to be patience is key, poke a little bit, then use the active and fuck em.

Azir, Teemo, Kayle, Ezreal, AP Varus, Diana, Nashors Orianna build bc of her passive. Its a niche item for sure but i think its a good idea bc it would work well with Nashors and be really strong for those small niche users.

I think the thing that needs to change about Grievous Wounds on items is its constant nature. None of the three items it's present on have active components. Seems like that'd be a great place to go with it. Maybe even some sort of incentive for using it right: if you deny X amount of healing or % healing you get a partial CD refund or something.

Yeah thats interesting. It would have to be active over a period of time or something and total up your dmg denied then give a percent back to CD's on your ult or something. Idk its interesting thought.
