Champion Concept - Voltor, the Heartless
Voltor, the Heartless
Who is Voltor?
Voltor is a lonely automaton, built and orphaned by his creator(s). He has grown and matured on the cold streets of Piltover to the best of his ability, and has seen the lives of many humans and other creatures. Studying their behavior from a distance, he finds that everyone seems to have empathy, love, and most of all, a heart to regulate emotions and feelings, building connections with other people. Becoming obsessed with the desire to know the workings, purpose, and feeling of a heart has led Voltor on a quest to find the right one for him. He has taken his search to the Rift, where the number of available test subjects is numerous for him to study, and see if he can find a heart that suits him. The consequences of his studies often leave a trail of bodies, but it doesn’t phase him. At least, not until he finds what he’s looking for.
Voltor is a jungling assassin, with potential to handle a lane as well. His mobility and scaling is great for taking down tanky targets with his burst damage, or just obliterating a squishy enemy. One thing, however, is certain: Voltor plays for keeps.
“Everyone else has a heart, and their life seems to be full of joy. I want to experience that. Just once.”
Passive -** Heartache:** Voltor's basic attacks apply stacks of Heartbeat, up to a cap of 5. Voltor deals increased magic damage to targets with Heartbeat.
Q - Heartburn: Voltor jabs his blade in a direction, damaging and slowing all enemies hit. Enemies at the tip receive one stack of Heartbeat. Voltor gains a shield if he damages an enemy with Heartbeat.
W - Heartthrob: Passively, Voltor has increased movement speed when moving towards enemy champions with Heartbeat. Upon activation, Voltor gains increased attack speed, and reduces the cooldowns for his other abilities when he attacks an enemy champion with Heartbeat.
E - Heartbreak: Voltor dashes to an enemy, damaging them and applying one stack of Heartbeat. Voltor can dash a greater distance if towards an enemy with Heartbeat. This ability deals bonus damage for every stack of Heartbeat.
R - Heartless: Voltor impales an enemy champion to find their heart, dealing immense damage and stunning them for 1 second. Voltor deals extra damage for each stack of Heartbeat. If this kills the target, Voltor recovers missing health based on number of Heartbeat stacks the target had.
“I won't know what I'm missing until I have it. The results will outweigh the costs.”
Dialogue:
Upon Selection - “I don't break hearts, I collect them."
Upon encountering or attacking Blitzcrank, Orianna, or any other heartless champ- “You don't have a heart. Please, let's compare notes.” “You don't have a heart. Please, let's talk.” “You don't have a heart. Please, tell me what you feel.” “You don't have a heart. You and I need to chat.” “You don't have a heart. I don't have a heart. Coincidence?” “You don't have a heart. Would you like to see my collection?”
Note: The following dialogue reflects the idea of Voltor examining the hearts of his victims.
Upon slaying a human enemy or sometimes minion - “This is too small.”
Upon slaying an inhuman champion or sometimes large monster - “This just doesn't feel right.” “This isn't my type.”
Upon slaying Blitzcrank, Orianna, or any other heartless champ - “This one isn't here? How did I kill it?”
Upon slaying an enemy - “This one is dead. This will not work.” “This too is dead. I must find another.” “The search for a suitable heart continues.”
Upon selecting attack target - “Ah, I've found my next victim. Oops, I mean donor.” “Ah, I've found my next target. Oops, I mean patient.”
Joke - “You're so disappointing, my heart just sinks. If I had one.”
Taunt - “I can't die. You don't seem to die. How is this going to end?” “I occasionally break necks, but I usually resort to ripping out hearts. Right before their eyes.” "I prefer to rip out their hearts. It's not that hard; I just reach in, and grab it."
Whew! I know that was a lot, but because the idea of this champ just hit me so hard, I had a greater vision into the potential lore and dialogue this character had, and I included as much as my brain could dump. For what it's worth, I hope you liked what you read, as I loved putting this together. Feel free to share your thoughts! More concepts on the way....
