Cherkal, the Lingering Pain

Who is Cherkal?

Cherkal is a new champion I have devised for the mid lane, but honestly his utility is good for any lane or the jungle. His attacks are not projectiles, and he has a lot of potential to set up amazing team fights. He focuses heavily on maintaining chains to deal consistent damage and constantly harass his opponents.

Passive: Embed

Cherkal's basic attacks embed a chain in their target, dealing damage over time as the target moves (max of 3 victims), while in range. Attacking a 4th enemy removes the first chain from the first to mark the new target (and the 5th takes the 2nd chain, etc.) Grants bonus movement speed while a chain is maintained. Enemies that break the chain moving out of range are briefly slowed. Players can see a ring around Cherkal when a victim is chained, indicating the range to maintain the link.

Q: Outreach

Toggle Off: Upon receiving damage, Cherkal reflects 15% as magic damage to all chained victims. Toggle On: Increases the range and damage of Cherkal's basic attacks, and also increases the range for maintaining chains and the damage over time.

W: Metal Storm

Passive: Any damage dealt to a chained target inflicts 10% as magic damage to any other chained targets. Active: Cherkal whips all chains around himself, damaging and slowing all nearby enemies. If chained victims are nearby, he rips out all chains from all targets to swing twice instead of once. Cherkal is rooted through the duration and heals for 15% of missing health based on the number of enemy champions hit the first time. Chained targets are damaged and slowed when the chains are ripped out (damaged by the ability, the slow comes from the passive).

E: Reap

Can be cast on Cherkal, or on a chained enemy. Self: Cherkal brutally rips out chains from all targets to damage and heavily slow its victims (passive slow excluded) and pull them closer to himself. Chained Target: Cherkal rips out the chain from the target to damage them (slowed by passive) and dash to the target enemy. Chains maintained on other enemies if in range.

R: Relinquish

This ability can be used 3 times before going on cooldown, and it has extreme range. Cherkal swings a chained blade in a target direction, damaging and slowing all enemies in its path. Deals bonus physical damage at the end of the range (where the blade falls). Cherkal gains bonus attack range on his next basic attack after each use of this ability (larger than Q, and does not stack).

Hey there, here to offer you a bit of help with your concept! :)

Passive: Embed

It's an interesting start, but (by itself) it's geared a little too strongly to helping Cherkal out when he's already got an advantage (when enemies are trying to move away from him) and doesn't do as much for him when he's losing. Although in a strange way it also turns him into another "don't chase X!" champions, so there's that.

Q: Outreach

Toggles don't tend to make for the most exciting of abilities, and this one either way gives him even more of a win-more situation. If you try to fight he toggles off and gets a free mini-thornmail. If you try to run he toggles on and hurts you harder. So far he doesn't really offer enemies much in the way of meaningful play options outside of "be able to kill him"

W: Metal Storm

I like both parts of this one, nicely done. The passive gives him some aoe and a reason to try to chain multiple targets (though it also implies he needs a way to meaningfully chain multiple targets without attacking them to do it, the W gives him some measure of enemy control, and the interaction with his passive gives him a more useful way to immediately use his chains. I would suggest activating the W temporarily removes chains from chained enemies and prevents him placing new ones for a little while.

E: Reap

I'd suggest mixing the two casts to simply makes this a "target chained enemy champions only" ability that pulls them to him if a champion or dashes to them if not. Gives him more options to play around enemies or to assist his team by making a pick on somebody.

R: Relinquish

Honestly this is kind of a disappointment after the last two abilities. It's really just a way for him to get some extra damage out. If you're willing to steal abilities from other MOBA games, you might consider looking into Ares' ultimate in the MOBA Smite. He's got a very similar thematic of chaining enemies to keep them in range while he kills them.

He started off a little weak with his Q and passive, but his W and E definitely gave him a more-defined playstyle and I think you might be on to something. I get the picture he's meant to be this brute who keeps you in range while he beats you to do, but he has the problem of getting there and doing anything once you're close.

Two suggestions I have:

First, turn the Q into a skillshot where he throws a chain out, chaining the first enemy hit. Maybe greatly reduce the cooldown if he lands it, so he can possibly chain it (no pun intended) on multiple champions. Secondly, he could probably use more spammable damage, maybe either in the form of bonus damage on-hit on his passive or giving his W a low cooldown.

Well, I hope that helped you out! :)

What kind of lore do you have in mind for him, anyways?
